Residence Inn Charleston Mt. Pleasant

I have mixed feelings about this Marriott. First, the front desk staff is excellent. Extremely kind and courtesy. We stayed here when our son had to have surgery at MUSC Children's hospital. The lobby is very nice. I wish I could say the same about the rooms. We always get a 2 bedroom suite, plenty of room. This hotel unfortunately has not updated or renovated in awhile. The furnishings are the older style residence INN. The room was clean, but it was worn looking. It is not the usual cheery colors that I am use to. The kitchen was worn too. The fridge made a loud noise. My sister who lives in Charleston and has never stayed at a R. Inn came over to visit and made the statement " tell me why you always stay at R. INN." I hate that this was her first impression, because it is not typical.

Here are some good things:

Great Location...you can walk to restaurants and the grocery store.
The front desk staff is excellent, they gave us a very late checkout to accommodate our surgery time. that alone would make me stay again. They never acted like they were doing us a fair. They had no idea why we even needed late checkout. They simply did this because they have EXCELLENT Customer service..

So this one is a mixed review for me.......

We (da wife and da 16 year old boy) spent a week here the end of March 2013. As usual I called in advance and requested a top floor, on the quiet side of the hotel (whatever doesn’t face the major streets in the area). I forget the lady’s name but she sure remembered. When my wife checked in she said “I have exactly what you want!”. And darned if she didn’t try! At his hotel you probably want an inside facing room so you’re not listening to the two major streets that go by. I’d suggest an inside room on the pool side (of course this could be dicey in warm weather if people stay out late and party. But you could always call the front desk to chase them inside if it’s late.). An inside room on the other (non pool) side though faces a bank of a/c condensers in an enclosed area that you *will* hear though the windows when they fire up. I wouldn’t suggest being by them.

Our two bedroom suite was roomy, clean and comfortable. Good beds. Full kitchen. Showers not at midget height, but I will say we never really had *hot* water in the showers. Tepid to warm was about the best. Didn’t run us out of the shower but really needs improved. TV picture quality was low. Looked like definitely not HD TV. Loved the gas fireplace with the auto-turnoff timer. We used it a lot as it never got over 55 degrees the week we were in Charleston. Big, nice looking reception area, and dining area for the complimentary breakfast (Worthwhile. We did that every day.) and the complimentary dinner on mon-thurs (Dicey. Didn’t go back after Chili night. But then you’re on vacation. Enjoy the local food!). The internet in the common area pc’s was agonizingly slow.

All the staff we dealt with were great. Did everything they could for us. Gave good recommendations. Couldn’t be happier with them.

Besides the staff, room quality and niceness of the facility the best thing was the location! Everything we wanted to do was within 4-20 miles or so, with most within 10. Downtown Charleston, Patriots Point (with the Aircraft Carrier Yorktown, Destroyer Laffey, Submarine Clamagore – see them in reverse order than what I listed. Even our 16 year old boy didn’t miss his gameboy during the tours!), Shem Creek area/restaurants, Boone Hall Plantation, *lots*. There’s a grocery store (Bi-Lo) across the parking lot, a Mall just beyond that (definitely walking distance).

Recommended. We’d definitely stay again!

This Residence Inn is conveniently located, well-kept, and has friendly staff. We took one of the last rooms available and the staff made everything very easy and were very accommodating. The room was also spacious and clean. A great place to stay for easy access to everything in Mount Pleasant, a quick trip out to IOP, or over the bridge to downtown.

This is a great location in Mt Pleasant with convenient parking and a friendly staff. The breakfast had a variety of food that will please just about any palate. The room was clean with amenities that are better than most. If you have AAA, or any other discount, make sure you tell them when you make your reservation because they will not honor discounts after your reservation is booked. Also, beware of all the tax – make sure you add this to your room rate so you will know the final room charge. But – we love the Charleston area, love staying in Mt Pleasant and will return as often as the good Lord allows.

It's a Residence Inn, and you get what you expect at one. This one as a plus has friendly staff--southern charm I suppose--and grits on the breakfast bar. (Having once stayed at a Residence Inn on the west coast, we thought the cooker holding the grits had rice, since, that's what they serve out there.) The weeknight manager's specials could easily take the place of dinner--hot dogs, pasta, etc, along with cold beer and red and white wines, all for free. The common areas are immaculate and nicely appointed, and the location is very convenient for those looking to get around the Charleston area.

The only real gripe (aside from having to pay $75 more than usual for the first night because of a PGA golf tournament wrapping up on Kiawah Island, but, that's business) is that the windows are paper thin, and, with a room facing the roads, you will sleep the night away to the noise of trucks downshifting, police sirens, and other gentle traffic sounds. The windows really need to be upgraded I think to drown out the street, as many of the rooms face either Route 517 (Isle of Palms Connector) or the cross-street--both of which are busy, even at night. If you're a light sleeper, request a room that faces the parking lot, perhaps.

Also, apparently the hotel offers no king-sized beds, even in the two-room suites, which is what we rented; there, I'm used to one room being a king, and the other being two doubles. Here, everything's a queen-sized. It's a minor complaint.

Overall it was a great property and I would recommend it for sure to anyone looking to be in Mount Pleasant, or near the city or beaches.
