“OK For What It Is...”
Reviewed 2 July 2007

Keep this in mind. This is a budget hotel. It is mostly clean, safe, and an OK place to sleep after you have enjoyed Charleston. The pool is OK. But, this is not the place you want to "hang-out" while visiting Charleston. This is the place you want to sleep at while visiting Charleston. That being said, it was located in a perfect area, and as I said it was safe.

For the money I saved, I would stay here again.

I was very nervous after reading the reviews on this website. I was very pleased with our complete 4 day stay. Our room stayed very clean with daily housekeeping, our sheets was even changed 1/2 way through our stay. The location is great and the prices are too. I highly recommend the motel for the families that are on a budget yet wants a nice, clean, comfortable room. There is a nice little ond out back with picnic tables and grills. Thank you for helping make our vacation worry free.

I picked this hotel because it said it was close to Patriot's Point. It was a little hard to find because it is off the main road and the sign is partially hidden by trees. It was a very quiet hotel (no banging of doors, etc), it was clean and comfortable. It is located right over the bridge from historic Charleston. We'd definitely stay there again. The only thing was that the brochure said that all red roof inns have free internet. The internet was not free at this hotel.

We stayed here the first weekend in May and was surprised at how nice the property is. It is close to everything, the desk staff is very friendly and housekeeping did a great job. For breakfast it is a short walk to a Huddle House. The rooms are tastefully decorated and very clean. To the other guest who have written ugly reviews - if you want the Omni then go downtown and book it for the additional $400 per night. For the value minded guest this place works great!

I stayed a week at the motel and while it was quite adequate and very convenient to what we wanted to do, it was not what I was expecting.

First off, I wanted a hotel, this is a motel. Big parking lot, tiny lobby, tiny little rooms. The image on this page and all over the web is deliberately angled to hide that, and also to make it appear bigger than it is. It's a motel, one TV with bad sound, one toilet that did not flush properly and kept running at times. one small shower, two small beds, one hand sink not in the bathroom.

Secondly, the "lake" is actually a small pond that appears to belong to the time share condos behind the hotel. There is a nice little swing looking out over it and a tiny picnic area, but no "lake" access. In fact, there is a line of weeds between the hotel grounds and the lake. I am fairly certain you are not allowed to use the pond or fish in it from the hotel. There is also no fence around it and no one watching on that side of the hotel, so mothers do not let small children anywhere near it. There is no dock or any way to climb out of it on the hotel side, a child would drown before reaching the condo side.

Third, the walls of this motel are thin. You can hear anyone who walks outside in front of your room. You can hear the tv in the next room. You can hear people stepping outside to talk on their cellphone because there is no reception in the rooms.

Fourth, this motel is utterly miserly with towels. The towels are tiny to start with and after the first night we had to go to the lobby or stop the housekeeper to ask for more while the damp and used ones remained in a pile by the door the entire time. When housekeeping did show up the second day and third, they pounded on our door at nine am until I got up and answered the door.

Finally, there are no amenities, no coffee maker or ironing board in the room, no pen or stationary, no room service. There were three little 5 oz plastic tumblers that were not replaced the entire stay. You had to fill your own ice bucket. No refridgerator either. They left one sample pack of shampoo and soap for three people and no conditioner or anything else. Thank goodness we brought our own. The waste cans were tiny, they held one take out styrofoam box. The cofffee available was from a machine in the lobby and was good, but there was none in the rooms and it ran out of powder half way through our stay and was not refilled.

On the positive side, the room was clean when we entered it, and when we specifically requested housecleaning to clean it.

The pool was fabulous! It was very pretty and fairly clean and used baquecil instead of chlorine and it was pretty empty while we were there. We swam almost every night.

It's easy to get from the hotel to Charleston, Patriots Point, Isle Of Palms, and Sullivan Island. The Hotel is on a strip with tons of totally incredible restaurants. The air was sweet with jasmine.

Checkout was quick and easy, the clerk friendly, we booked and payed online and that went smooth as silk.

We had a wonderful vacation and while the motel was not bad, it was not what it presented itself to be either. If you are looking for bare bones at a good price, this is it, a place to stow your stuff and snag 40 winks here and there. If you want a good nights sleep or a comfortable stay or a little pampering go somewhere else.

We were running late to get checked in, I called the hotel for better directions and twice I was given the wrong directions. When we finally arrived, the hotel was not the same hotel in the pictures online. This is actually a motel. There were people living out of this hotel. Check in was completed by a extremely unknowledgable and unfriendly staff member. Once we got into our room, none of the ammenities promised were available, there is no coffee and newspaper to be had at this hotel. There were dirty towels in the bathroom, the shower curtain had lots of mildew and we were not given another room because the hotel was suppossively booked solid. Maybe in an alternate universe. We asked for directions to a couple of places that should have been common knowledge to anyone living in the area and the hotel staff had no idea how to get there. No internet service available to help us either. Honestly, I could not have been more traumatize by a single hotel even if it was the Bates Motel.

Booked 2 rooms directly from Red Roof Inn 800# 3 months in advance. Reserved rooms with credit card. Confirmed rooms 3 days prior to arrival. Got there and they were over booked. Got what was left and they were dirty, baths had hair all over them, toilets didn't flush, no wash cloths in either room and 1 had dirty ones hanging in shower, huge cob webs. Was not types of room reserved. Desk clerk was unconcerned and offered 1 excuse after another. She even tried not to honor the price I had conformation email and #'s for. Finally got to speak to manager 2 days later who tried to fix problem but her cleaning staff really sucked. Every day what got fixed was fine but then there were new problems like no towels at all, didn't make beds, cleaned cob webs but knocked ceiling debris all over carpet. When checking out, they still tried to over charge me. The rooms were updated, place is very very convenient but with all the problems was a big hassell and not worth it.
