“Enigmatic but oh so relaxing!”
Reviewed 17 June 2012

My first reaction to Bluegreen's Harbour Lights upon checking in and coming to my room was, "This place is nice enough, but there's really nothing particularly special about it." Now, two days later, my appreciation is growing!

I thought I would dislike the location of Harbour Light - 6 miles or so from the beach in an out of the way spot set back off of a main drag, next to a closed down amusement park. However, the quiet of it - especially in light of all of the noise and constant distractions of most of the rest of Myrtle Beach - is really a plus!

Getting here was pretty easy (the worst traffic in town is always in those last five or six miles), and check in was a breeze. A savvy concierge tried the obligatory two times to get me to agree to an update, but let it go soon enough when she saw that my no meant no.

The surfaces and finishes in the unit are nothing out of the ordinary, but the unit's rooms are big!! I'm in the one bedroom side of the 2 BR lockoff, and it feels like I must have 1000 square feet. I especially like the very large bathroom, with a spacious walk in shower fueld by what must be a 100 gallon water tank.

The screened in porch is large, too, and great for morning coffee.

Speaking of morning coffee, the kitchen supplies and equipment aren't as nice as at a Wyndham, Sheraton, or a Marriott (I still haven't quite figured out the best way to work the coffee maker), but nothing is lacking. The fact that a spoon or a fork is mismatched with the rest of the silverware is not a problem I am concerned about.

I have also seen more effective overall management (cleaner exteriors, with more accessible perks like pool towels, etc.), but again, this place is peaceful and pleasant. A couple of tips - DO sit out by the intercoastal waterway watching the boats go by; DON'T go to the Knot's pool area without sunglasses because the glare off of the white pool deck can be blindingly bright.

So here's my final take - I am an owner who has actually contracted to sell my points contract here. This trip is making me wonder if perhaps I should be looking for another one.

We just returned from a 5 night stay. We had 4 adults and 2 children in a 2 bedroom condo. We were in building 22 and had a nice view off our screened balcony.

The place was really nice but had a sewer smell around the washing machine that drifted through the whole place. The pans that are provided are not non stick but worked out fine for us. If you need more trash bags or dishwasher soap you can get that at the front office for no charge.

We found out that you can get a free day pass to the state park on the beach. (you can get them more than one) We went for a couple of hours one day to check it out and ended up going back for an entire day and taking a picnic lunch. There are bathrooms, a great picnic area and even a shower area. The ocean was the kids favorite part of our trip!

It rained one day so we played bingo. It was $5 for 4 games. They have board games that you can check out for free, an arcade, pool tables, and a ping pong table. We did the ice cream social one day and you got plenty of ice cream for $3.

The pool at Knots was less busy and much bigger than the main pool. Also the hot tub at Knots was much hotter that the other one. The indoor pool was never busy and the indoor hot tub was closed.

We received a $50 gift certificate to Captain George's Seafood Buffet for listening to the timeshare speach. Our bill was $165 for 4 adults and 2 kids (1/2 price) we didn't have any alcohol either. They added on $25 gratuity and $22 sales tax. It was great food but be prepared to pay alot of $.

Overall we had a great stay but be sure to check your room carefully before leaving. I left my eye glasses and no one found them so I will not be getting them returned to me. It does say in the brochure that they don't have to return any items that are left behind and that is true.

Room Tip: Building 22 does have an elevator. Not all buildings have an elevator. We were on the 3rd floor an...

Maybe hotel is nice and clean, but if anybody offers you to buy this as a time share, as an investment, don't do it. It's part of Bluegreen Corporation, who are just bunch of liars. If you decide to buy time share make sure, everyting sales people promise you is in contract, black on white, otherwise Bluegreen will not take responsibility for their sales peoples deception and lies.

We recently spent 2 nights at Harbour Lights. We really enjoyed our stay. The room (1 bedroom deluxe, building 15 overlooking the pool and Knot's) was spacious and very nice with a screen porch overlooking the lake and the pool. The kids (12) really enjoyed the DJ in the afternoons. They had various activities (DJ, water balloon toss, karaoke, trivia, cornhole). We got a free pass from the resort and drove down to Huntington Beach State Park (about 20 minutes) one day..super nice and uncrowded. I prefer to be "on the beach", but I knew before we went this resort was not on the beach. It caused us no problems and was super enjoyable. Some have made comments that the area is "deserted"..it appears that way somewhat because there is a mall and what use to be Hard Rock Park across the way that is closed down, but it didn't take away from our stay at all and didn't appear to be unsafe at all. We walked to The Boathouse which was just across the parking lot and had a nice dinner on the waterway. The staff that we encountered was very nice.

Comfort - The beds, linens, and pillows were not comfortable. The size of our two bedroom unit was very spacious and had a great lay-out.

Lay-out - Our two bedroom unit was perfect for us. When you walk in there is a stack w/d with one use laundry detergent and two dryer sheets. The 2nd bedroom is off of the front door and has two queen beds with a night stand and light in the middle. The bedrooms had ceiling fans also. The closet was decent size for a hotel room. Their is a TV in each bedroom.

Off of the 2nd bedroom is an adjoining full bath. The bathroom had a great layout too with the sink separated from the shower and toilet. The water pressure was lacking greatly! It took forever to wash my hair. Also, the provided hair dryer was pretty weak, too! If you have long, thick hair, bring your own hair dryer! The design is pretty basic and cheap but functional.

The great room has the kitchen, dining table and couch area right in the middle of the place. The kitchen was equipped with everything that we needed pretty much. The cooking pans were lacking but worked. The fridge was great and the lounging area and table were ample.

There is a great master bedroom and bath with a king size bed and big tub and then a full bath in addition. There is a door that goes straight onto the screened in porch and another door that opens into the great room.

Most of the buildings have elevators. I heard about this issue but when we got there, we saw elevators in every building that we walked by. Not sure if there are some that don't have one.

View - We were in building 11 with a view of the pond. It was very quiet and relaxing with the fountain in the pond and the geese meandering around. There are inter-coastal water views also but we liked our spot. The screened in porch had a little table and four chairs so we sat out there a lot and it was great!

There are two pools. One is more of a family style pool with a rec-room off of it and a small lazy river that you can float in. It is SMALL though so don't get super excited. The second pool is the more adult pool with a bar and 'grill'. The bar is not always open, depending on whether. The guy working there was awesome and a lot of fun. He gave us some great tips and info, too.

We had a car so we drove down to the boardwalk where the big Sky Wheel is. It was okay. We loved driving to Georgetown and Charleston. Those were are faves! Charleston is such a cool city with so much history and fun things to do. I definitely recommend renting a car and driving over. It is about an hour and a half but so worth it. We stopped off at Bonnie Hall Plantation and toured that also.

Room Tip: The corner units are nice. I would ask to be closer to the pools. The resort is pretty big. There ar...

We really enjoyed our stay here. We are bluegreen owners and stayed here with points. I knew it was far from the ocean and that was okay for us. The area is deserted except for Medievil Times dinner show right across the street. It was nice just to walk over on the day we had reservations.
Rooms are nice sized but the water pressure in the shower was low. A little dated but it served our purpose. I really liked the screened in porch.
While we were on the beach we decided to stop in at Shorecrest Villas in North Myrtle Beach and use the pool. The pool was very nice and warm and the seating was good. I really liked the picinic tables and food stand. The outdoor pool is just steps away from the ocean!
I can't wait to come back to Myrtle Beach....I would stay at Harbour Lights again:)

Room Tip: Demand the ground floor unless you enjoy using the stairs. Most buildings do not have elevators.

I had been in touch with Harbour Lights several times since we made our reservations in July of 2011, stating that we must have a non-smoking unit. We stayed there March 16 thru 23, 2012 after spending a week at Seaglass Tower in Myrtle Beach (both are Bluegreen properties). We had refridgerated items to transfer after checking out of Seaglass. Harbour Lights told us that we would get preferential check-in as soon as the room was cleaned. Luckily, Seaglass was able to keep our items cool for us in the meanwhile. Harbour Lights said they would call us as soon as our room was ready. We checked out of Seaglass and spent from 10:00AM to 4:00PM sitting on the beach waiting for our call. FINALLY the desk at Seaglass called them for us and they said our room was ready. When we arrived at Harbour Lights, we complained that we had waited all day - after being told we could check-in early. They insisted it was because they wanted to make sure the room was REALLY clean! After checking into the room, we realized what they meant by "really clean". It was a smoking room and they had to run an ionizer for so many hours before we could check in! If only they had told us this "up front"! The room odor seemed ok, so we settled in. However - we love sitting on balconies and this place had a lovely screened-in one. We weren't out there five minutes and our "neighbors" started smoking on theirs!!! What good is a non-smoking room if you can't enjoy the balcony because the neighbors are smoking??? We finally brought the ionizer out onto the balcony - it was noisy, but at least we could enjoy the view and being outside. Luckily, those neighbors checked out the next day. We don't understand why with all of the buildings they have at Harbour Lights that they can't at least designate ONE of them as totally non-smoking? We loved our room - very spacious and well-stocked. The bathroom was huge and had a separate jacuzzi, separate shower and two sinks. The bedroom was very big and had a nice door leading to the balcony. The bed was very comfortable, but we would recommend taking your own pillows, as theirs were rather flat. It was nice having a washer and dryer inside the main front door. Our view from Bldg. 15 was lovely, with one of the ponds and the larger outdoor infinity pool in view. The swimming pools outdoors are not heated, but they (both of them) were lovely. They do have an indoor pool also. In all, there are three hot tubs - one at each pool. There is also a Lazy River. Even though the water was a little cool, it was very enjoyable. The staff we encountered were all very nice and helpful - particularly the staff of the activities center. We really enjoyed their daily 2:00 PM ice cream sundaes - $2.00, but a great deal! We wish we could have tried the little restaurant (Knots) at the infinity pool, but it wasn't open for the season yet. We did't realize how close we were to one of the big malls until the day before we checked out. There is a mall right across from Harbour Lights that is currently "dead", but while we were staying there, heard on the news that it had recently been purchased. We would love to stay there again, but will be wary of the smoking situation.

Room Tip: Bldg. 15 facing the pond was great.
