“Very inexpensive hotel, walking distance to the beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2013

This hotel is very inexpensive but don't expect luxury at all. It's not the most beautiful place in the world, but it is definitely worth the value for a place right near the beach. We don't usually get nice hotels when traveling (especially to a beach vacation!) because we don't tend to be there much except to shower and sleep so if that's also your objective, you won't be disappointed with this one. The front desk man was oddly militant about how many people were going to be in our room though --- when it was clearly just me and my husband -- but I guess people may try to pack people in and party there or just pay next to nothing with so many people staying in one room. It was quiet and there was ample parking though so we were happy with our stay here. This is also perfect assuming you don't mind walking around the strip and beach.

Room Tip: You will have to walk up stairs and there are 3-4 in this hotel. FYI if that keeps you from staying...

This is my third time staying at the Virginian over the years and it only gets better and better ! Centrally located in south myrtle beach and literally just a walk away from the ocean . We always choose to stay on the 4th floor and the view of the ocean is absolutely breathtaking . Sit on your balcony and enjoy a cigarette and a cup of coffee or any of your favorite icy cold beverages , while soaking in the myrtle beach scenery . many great restaurants including Angelo's steakhouse And lots and lots of amazing breakfast places are without just minutes of walking . Take a brisk walk down to the boardwalk and enjoy the skywheel and then have dinner at the 8th avenue tiki bar . An amazing beach bar is right across the street from the virginian also and a ton of many golf places ! All in all the value at the Virginian is UNBEATABLE the owners are the friendliest , and the staff including the cute and super hospitable maid went above and beyond to meet our every need and desire and answered all of our questions . On your next trip to myrtle beach Highly consider the virginian and I promise you will be highly satisfied . 10 /10 and a big round of applause and I already can't wait for vacation next year . And you know where I will be staying !!

So I went here 3 years straight with a group of just turned 21 year olds. We partied, drank, and went out. This was the perfect place to stay as it was decent accommodations(bed, kitchen) but wasn't a fancy hotel as to dissuade our at times raucousness. I think this is more of that type of motel rather than a family place but it is definitely worth the money and one of the cheapest places to stay on the strip.

Room Tip: They are all the same, hopefully get one facing the ocean that is across the street.

The room itself was alright, nothing special other than having a good sized mini fridge. My only complaint is the bath tub hadn't been cleaned (in a while) and there was no coffee maker. Be advised, the maid service lady attempts to "clean" or at least change towels early in the morning. She makes one trip per day, which was fine for my friends and I; we went to the lobby to get fresh towels ourselves later in the day. For $115 per night (including taxes), it was an alright place.

The restaurants, bars, tourist shops and amusement parks are on North Ocean Blvd so it is a walk. One of the days, my friends and I drove and paid to park. There are a couple $10 all day parking lots. They have free concert series like other cities near the ocean.

Great Price!! Great Location!! Clean Rooms!! We made a last minute reservation to The Virginian and I was a little scared based on the reviews but first impressions were GREAT!! The owners were so very nice. Our room was on the 3rd floor facing the main drag and we could see the ocean from our room #304. The decor is basic, we had 2 chairs by the window, a dresser, 2 double beds, a nice newer mini fridge, a microwave, table with two chairs. The airconditioning kept us frosty on the humid Carolina days. The shower was an issue we had to adjust to because we are a tall family and had to bend our head to wash it. We're 5'5 and above but not that big of a deal really unless you like to take long showers... water pressure, drainage and temp were GREAT!! Well lit parking lot but I would recommend asking for a first floor room if you have knee problems because this hotel has no elevator. We knew this beforehand and it was not an issue for us!! We didn't swim in the pool unfortunately because it rained most of our stay but the water looked clean. Would be stay here again? ABSOLUTELY!! You cannot beat the price or it's location!! Oh, one more thing... My daughter forgot her purse and when we went back to get it, the maid staff already cleaned the room and not one penny of her 175 in cash was missing!! It was laying in plain sight and again, nothing was missing!! Super impressed by that!! If you're looking for a great place to lay your head for a very reasonable price with good, honest owners and staff, this is the place for you!!

Room Tip: Request a ground level room if knee problems as there are no elevators!!

We stayed on the 4th floor facing the ocean, the view wasn't bad. 4 flights of stairs is rough but it is what it is. I suppose my only real complaint would be the fact that we reserved a kitchen room and at least expected something to be provided, nothing, nothing provide.....that's all fine and good but at least tell me so I can come actually prepared. I mean we went from camping in a tent to having 4 walls, a roof, and a convenient toilet, so it is what it is.

We thought we were getting a good deal by going here but it was quite the opposite. As soon as we checked in the management seemed off but we got our keys and went to our room. Once in our room we were immediately ready to leave! It was filthy! Grease splatters all over the wall above the stove area, dirty bathroom and smelled awful. The swimming pool was disgusting as well. We went back to the front desk and told them there was no way we were staying there and he kept saying there was nothing he could do. At the time we were all in our early 20's and just could not get through to this man, so our friend had his mom call and talk to the manager. The manager began to tell her that we were rude and yelling at him and demanding things and saying that he never told us he wouldn't refund us which was not the case. In the end we paid the first night and were refunded the rest of the money which was fine by us. We went across the street and got a great hotel for a little bit more money. Please stay far away from this place! Awful experience!
