“Not too good”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2012

Typical Japanese grill experience with fire and flinging spoons. Food was ok, but there wasn't much of it. Paid $21 for what might have been 2 ounces of steak and 4 shrimp. Plenty of rice of course. Cook gave one of the other guests the wrong food, then wanted him to change plates with his friend after they had both eaten some of their food. Typical MB. No matter how bad it gets, there will be an endless supply of patrons.

“Extraordinarily good sushi; great service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2012

Overview: Excellent sushi and appetizers, good Asian cuisine in a tastefully decorated bar area.

We decided to visit Kono having seen a photo of the bar in a travel guide. We chose to eat in the bar, where we could enjoy the decor and some conversation, rather than have the traditional meal seated around the hibachi while the chef prepares the food.

The bar decor really is pretty cool and we enjoyed delicious key lime martinis (superb!) and appetizers including edamames and a surprisingly good and original version of hummus and fresh baked hot pita bread.

Our friends selected two Asian-fusion chicken dishes that they said were very good, and enough to take leftovers home for the next day. My wife and I ordered sushi and were delighted with the taste and texture of the expertly prepared Spicy Crab roll, Bang Bang roll and Crunchy roll that we shared. All three rolls were in the $6.00 to $12.00 range and well worth the price, considering you can easily pay $7.00 to $10.00 for pre-rolled sushi on the cold shelf in a supermarket.

The service was attentive and knowledgeable without being pushy; the lighting was subdued and atmospheric without being too dark; the music was just loud enough to cover most of the noise from the folks in the nearby hibachi room.

The restrooms - at least the men's room - need a bit of an overhaul. They look rather out of place alongside the sophisticated dining area. But the most important part, the food, made it definitely worth a visit, particularly if you can take advantage of a coupon from one of the coupon books available all around the Myrtle Beach area.

“Good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2012

Fast service, we were seated right away and our server and cook were very friendly. Food was good, not the best hibachi I've tasted, but still good. The prices were average with most hibachi restaurants that I've visited.

“Amazing experience!”

The food was delicious and the cook was awesome. Food is a little pricy but totally worth it. My fiancée took me here for my birthday and I can't complain! We will definitely eat here again!

“Good Food/Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2012

We ate at Kono for supper and the food was really good. The chef was entertaining, including our kids in the fun.
The server was great and friendly.
We didn't have to wait long to be seated and the portions were definitely enough!
Will make sure I eat here again when returning to Myrtle Beach!
