“Short Weekend Stay”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

We have stayed at the Atlantica before and it was great but this time we stayed at the Waves and it was horrible/Will never stay again. The room smelled awful and all they wanted to do was spray air freshner in it.The heated pool was as cold as the pool outside/The jets in the hot tub did not work/The sheets on the bed were put on wrong and had stains on them/The walls were dirty/the cabinet drawers would fall out when you opened them/house keeping sucked. They never one time came to our door. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom and the tub was nasty. We will never and I repeat never stay at this place again. We ever went to the front desk a couple of times about this and all they wanted to do was send house keeping up to spray the room.It was a terrible experience.

Room Tip: I would not recommend anyone stay at the Waves

The stay was for me and my husband. I sm in a wheelchair so it was ok but we had to use a public access to get to the beach. Shelley made our trip worth while though.it was a good trip overall. The room was ok but wasn't handicap as we knew. She made the trip good for us abd we are thankful!

We found a super cheap fare on Spirit, so we decided to head to MB for a long weekend at the end of September (25-28). After checking rates (and other reviews) we took a chance and booked a King room/partial ocean view at Palmetto Shores. We had a short and early flight, so we arrived at the hotel at 9:30am. Side Note: If you’re staying in the “hotel zone”, there is a nice little airport shuttle run by Coast RTA. It’s $7/per person one way or $10 round trip.

We didn’t expect our room to be ready so early. Good news was that our room was ready, so we could drop our bags and go. The bad news was that there is a $7/day resort fee that Orbitz did not list on their site. Not even in the fine print. I read my confirmation over and over and double checked it when we got there. There was no mention of any resort fee, and this was part of the reason we chose this hotel. I looked at many different resorts in MB, on Orbitz, and all the other resorts that had this fee Orbitz disclosed it. For some reason Orbitz never put this in their fine print. Another couple who checked in after us had the same problem. Not the hotel’s fault. They said to book through Expedia and they include it in their price.

Christon (super nice) checked us in and we took our bags to room 311 in the Waves building which was a king bed, partial ocean view. We got exactly what we booked. The room itself is on the smaller side, which is fine. We didn’t book for the room size. The issue we had was that the ceiling was peeling and pieces had fallen down onto the floor and nightstand by the balcony door. Not sure how housekeeping missed it or if the room was previously vacant and it fell down in the meantime. On our way back out we stopped by the front desk and notified them about the issue. Theresa asked if we wanted to move and we said we were fine with someone just cleaning it up. We returned 4 hours later to find out nothing had been done. So we went downstairs to let them know the ceiling hadn’t been cleaned up. Theresa asked again asked if we wanted to be moved and we considered moving or just getting it cleaned. While we thought about it she started looking to see what else they had available. She gave us keys to look at room 448 in the Coral building. This was an oceanfront 2-queen room. It was definitely bigger then room 311 and there was a full kitchen. As soon as we got back to registration Theresa gave us another key to 316 in the Waves building. This one was right down the hall from our current room, in the same building as registration. 316 was nicer then the 448 so we choose that one. A side note… I would stay away from the Sands building. We walked through this building thinking it was where our room was. The people who complain about trash in the hallways, nasty smells and crappy elevators must have stayed here. This building was a mess.

Our room definitely had a great view. Oceanfront rooms should have that. However, the condition of the room could certainly benefit from some TLC. Although the bedroom furnishings were more modern that the other rooms we looked at, the walls were dirty, they had holes in them from old paintings or pictures that use to be there, the fridge had dents in it, broken toilet paper holder and the carpet was old and dirty. Someone said this hotel could use some serious renovations. I definitely agree. Our shower also didn’t drain. Someone recently posted a picture of their tub after a shower. Our tub looked just like that. These things certainly didn’t damper our trip, as we knew when we booked that this hotel is cheap for a reason. Just some constructive criticism on how they could improve things for their future guests.

Overall, I would give this hotel 2.5 stars. The location and the price are perfect. Within walking distance to everything we needed. The front desk people we checked in with, Christon and Theresa were very nice. Big thanks to Theresa for helping us with our room situation. They always greeted us with a good morning or said hello when we returned. The other front desk people never acknowledged us when they saw us. In fact, I stood right in front of someone for a few minutes, while she counted change. She didn’t look up even once. Finally another guy asked if I had been helped yet.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive place to hang your hat and your expectations aren’t high, this place will work for you. It’s worth it for the cost and location alone. If you need a 4 or 5 star hotel, this is not a place I would take a chance on. You will be highly disappointed.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the Sands building.

We stayed at this hotel about two years ago and it was great. What a surprise when we stayed Sept 26-29. There was a problem with my bed in my room the rails where sticking out i almost tore the skin off my ankles when i walked by. The front desk lady's were great and moved me right away only to find the second room was the same way. Someone came to fix the bed, then my door wouldn't lock with the dead bolt. That issue was never handled and there was a big hole in the bottom of my door where someone had kicked it. The room wasn't very clean and the staff working outside are louder then the people walking the strip. If you don't mind all this stuff feel free to book a room here, i will not be returning.

Palmetto Shores Oceanfront..... decided to visit Myrtle Beach for a few days after going to our home in Florida for a holiday. What a shock. Myrtle beach and yes there are two, was like Blackpool on speed. So commercialised that you could not believe you were in the right place. The hotel was something else. I doubt if the floor had seen a vacuum cleaner since it had been opened and was filthy. We had a top floor ocean view room with kitchenette which once inside was ok for the money. The hotel needs to be cleaned from top to bottom to bring it up to what we consider 2 star rating. If you do end up in Myrtle beach.... venture out to Little River and have lunch, far nicer. otherwise, avoid Myrtle beach like the plague

Me and the family really enjoyed the room and the hospitality of the place. The only complaint was the room was in an older building that didn't look well maintain because the last day the elevator broke and if not for the staff offering to help me with my luggage(was on the 5th floor), I wouldn't have made it out by checkout. It is well worth the cost I paid and would stay here again the next time we're in town but in the building with the front desk or the last one but never the middle building again.

THis is a big oceanfront hotel that get super high traffic and is shows. wear and tear everywhere. View of the ocean are always great, but the room and hotel needs a few million$$$$ in TLC. Very very worn common areas and room. Room itself lacked shower curtain, Toilet paper holder broken and laying behind toilet, Tub and shower caulked and recaulked a million times by guys who didnt know how to caulk. NO COFFE available, tv remote did not work.BUt if you on a budget, just want a very basic hotel give it a shot... you can walk to everything. I'm not staying again. Photos on website not very acurate.
