“Great stay!”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 via mobile

Just stayed a week in July. This was our 3rd stay here. Had a 3 bedroom unit. Had 3 bathrooms and washer/dryer. This was only place I found with 3 bathrooms which was needed with our large group. Everything was clean. Front desk and housekeeping staff very friendly. Pools great. Plan on returning next year.

We just got back from staying at the Grand Atlantic for a week from Saturday to Saturday and overall, it met our needs for what we were looking for. We stayed in a 3 bedroom suite on the 20th floor. View was awesome from the balcony which had sliding doors to both the living room and master bedroom. Each bedroom also had it's own access to each of 3 bathrooms which was part of our decision to stay there. There is an open format with living room and kitchen combined with view of the ocean from the living room and master bedroom. Our unit was clean and most had a modern feel to it, except for some of the wooden living room tables and dining room table which looked like older tables which had been scratches and looked worn but for our stay, no big issue. Just was surprising to have the older furniture in a newer looking unit.

Now for the not so good. If you are arriving on a Saturday, can be difficult to find parking, and if you do, there will be no luggage trollies to unload your luggage. You will also find it takes a long time you have to wait for an elevator with so many using it, especially while taking several trips as you carry your luggage. There are only four elevators for the whole 20 floors and penthouse floor, so we always found ourselves waiting and when we did get one, can expect it to get crowded as everyone is trying to get on and off at the different levels. We wanted the 20th floor for the view but in hind sight should have gone with the 5th floor which was the highest roof over parking level to be on and parking was available on this level most of the time which would have avoided much of the elevator use except for getting down to the pool area and beach. We had all the same issues with leaving on Saturday, hard to get an elevator, and no luggage trollies to be found. They in fact all disappeared on Friday night when those that realized the issue, took the luggage trollies to their rooms that night to assure they would have one on Saturday morning upon departure.

The pools were all nice but really meant for kids. The deepest one was about 6' on one end, and even the whirlpool hot tub was inhabited by kids the whole time (we have kids so this is not about not liking kids) but when on vacation with kids, kind of nice to have one pool area the adults can enjoy. Beach access is great and outside showers to wash off sand before entering pool area again. Ocean was about 80 degrees, very nice, but the main pool felt too cool to really enjoy going in, and again, many children in all the pool areas all days.

If you want to get an alcoholic drink or food at the Grand Atlantic, there is Scooby's which is a combination fast food, ice cream, and alcoholic beverages on the first floor with one side of it looking at the road, and one looking at the entry to the parking garage. We went there for ice cream but nothing else as there were near by nicer places to go to. We went several times to the ocean side bar at the hotel next door to the Grand Atlantic which was far nicer for drinks and food.

The real issue which this is of no fault of the Grand Atlantic but should be mentioned for those considering going to it during the summer, our Saturday and Friday night stays were a completely different feel compared to during the week. The hotel filled with many people which I am assuming to be more local to the Myrtle Beach area and came with smaller kids and teenagers and it largely felt like a free for all. You could hear kids in the adjoining rooms, from the balconies, and from the beach, with fireworks going off on the beach, all of which continued through the night. Again we have and like kids, and been in many vacation areas which are family oriented, but even our 12 year old girls complained about the noise while trying to sleep.

I gave the rating a 3 because the Grand Atlantic did many things well and some of the issues we did not like were not within their control. As things like fireworks on the beach late at night I am sure are connected to any stay at Myrtle Beach with fireworks being sold near by. I would recommend for any stay during the week, but if you are planning on staying on or during a weekend, be aware of the issues that we only experienced to any level on the Friday and Saturday night stays we had.

Room Tip: Get a room on the 5th floor which has the best chance for parking and no need for use of an elevator...

Thank you so much for your well-written and detailed review. Of course, we would love to have impressed you enough to earn a 5-star review. We especially appreciate the mention that the condo was clean and modern. Housekeepers have the hardest job in the business and its rewarding for them to hear from guests about a job well done. For those reading this review, we ask that you do not take the luggage carts into the rooms. Not only does that make them unavailable for other guests to use as mentioned by this reviewer, it can actually damage the flooring and walls within the condos. Also, we have installed signs on each of the luggage carts informing guests not to take them into the units and to please return them to the parking areas for others to use. We maintain a supply or luggage carts large enough to support the resort if they are simply returned after each use.

The Grand Atlantic does not rent to locals and has a minimum rental age of 25 to lessen the chance of improper behavior at the resort.

Stayed in three bedroom and it was cramped. Master bedroom had a good size but bathroom was cramped. The other bedrooms were OK in size but would not want to stay in them longer than a week.
The building itself is in a good location. The pools were nice but are busy and with no supervision from the staff. Parent's let their kids run wild. You might as well forget about using lazy river because kids use it as a swimming pool. The building says no smoking however we found more than a few cigarette butts in the kiddie pool. A good bit of the staff are in their early twenties if that and do not even understand basic English. I think this will be my first and last stay at Grand Atlantic. Plenty of other condos or rental houses.

Thank you for your review. Our 3 bedroom condos are 1300sf of interior space and represent some of the very largest on the beach. For those who need larger accommodations, we also offer 4 bedroom condos that are nearly 1800sf. When visiting the pool area, we ask that parents take the majority of the responsibility of supervising their children. We thank this reviewer for pointing out that the parents are letting their kids run around unsupervised. The Grand Atlantic staff tries to enforce the pool rules while also allowing a fun environment and it can be a difficult task to accomplish in a manner that keeps everyone happy. While we pride ourselves in providing a great lodging experience, we do not offer a daycare service and we ask for the parents cooperation in not allowing their children to have free reign of the facility. This is important for the safety and enjoyment of all Grand Atlantic guests.

We are staying here now and absolutely hate it! Stained couch that needs to be replaced maybe a year ago you can see the bottom coming out. Carpet matted down. Bathroom door lock doesn't work. Called to complain and they said they were full and nothing could be done. They were going to ask the manager what could be done and call back . No one ever called back.i finally called about 30 minutes later for them to tell me the manager already left for the day and to call back Monday. It is only Saturday. I will not sit on the couch and will hate my whole stay!! Way to over priced.

We have worked closely with this guest to accommodate their needs and they are now enjoying their vacation in a room that has met their expectations. It was our pleasure to take care of this guest and ensure that the remainder of their vacation is everything they were hoping. We appreciate the opportunity to make things right and are pleased to have been able to do so in this case. Another guest has since checked into the original room mentioned in this review and has told us they are very pleased as well.

When first arriving to the Grand Atlantic my friends & I had like it. Our 4 bedroom suite was spacious the view was beautiful and that was it. After sitting around & looking at the place we notice the carpet was dirty, the furniture was old & scratch up. We stayed one night. One of the girls who slept in one of the beds was getting bit by bugs. We believe they were bed bugs but we never got evidence if that what it was. Maintenance came up the next morning inspect the beds & said he didn't see nothing. Of course, he said bed bugs are so small that you cant see thwm but the marks that was on her look like bed bugs marks after looking it up online. I was excite about staying there was going to come back with my family but after that & the money we paid for that one night I will pass on this place. They have nicer resorts on Ocean Blvd that are cleaner & updated

We are aware of this guests stay however they never did mention to us any negative comments about the room condition or cleanliness. This guest was reserved for a 1-night stay only on a Saturday night. Just prior to checkout they did call down to say they thought one member of their party had been bitten by something. As mentioned, a staff member did go to the room to conduct a search and was unable to find anything that may have caused any bites. Even though they did not find anything, as a courtesy a discount was offered which was declined for not being large enough. We always do our best to accommodate our guests and have them leave with a positive impression of the resort. In this case, regretfully, we were unable to accomplish that. We truly believe they will visit us again.

We have stayed in this location for years. It is a good place if you are traveling with multiple family members. We stayed in the four bedroom suite, so we had plenty of privacy when we needed it. There is a full size kitchen which allowed us to cook if we didn't want to fight the crowds and go out to eat with our large group. They have plates, pans, and a dishwasher, so you do not need to bring anything with you. We also had a large dining room table that accommodated all of us. There was a sitting area which allowed us to socialize or watch TV. Movie rentals are free from the lobby and added a nice touch late at night or on the one rainy day we had. Upgrades are needed in the near future. The carpet and sofas are showing wear and tear. If you want your room cleaned you need to ask if not they only replace the towels, empty the trash, and make the beds. With small kids we wanted it vacuumed each day. The bathrooms were never cleaned during our week long stay.

They have various pools on site and it is ocean front. The pool monitors really don't watch what is taking place so parents need to make sure they are watching their kids in the pool because of the older kids who tend to forget there are others around. Chairs are limited and even though the rules say do not save chairs with towels you can see guests going out at 8am to ensure they get one for the day. I also believe the pool staff need to clean around the pool during the day. Even though people should pick up after themselves, the staff should want people to feel clean. This is a non-smoking hotel which we love, but we did have to complain about guests smoking on their balcony and at the pool. The young staff didn't seem to want to take care of the problem, but we were persistent.

Overall we do like the resort. It is within walking distance of some of our favorite places to eat. They have a kids program.

Room Tip: Rooms that are above the 5th floor allow a better view of the ocean.

Thank you for your detailed review. It should prove quite helpful to others as they research their vacation destination. Your comments regarding housekeeping services are accurate as to the services we provide. Our service is condo-style and includes the towel replacement, making of the beds and vacuuming. Our staff will accommodate requests to provide a more detailed service when needed. Kitchens and bathrooms are not part of our daily services. However, as this reviewer mentioned, just let us know what you might need and we will gladly ensure it gets done. We will try to uncover which room this reviewer was in so that we can evaluate the condition of the carpet and sofa and advise the condo owner if it needs replaced. Thank you for letting us know to look into this.

We try to find a proper balance in the pool area with rule enforcement. If we are too strict, we will have guests think we wont let anyone have fun. Too far the other way and it would be uncomfortable for some. Although in any case, children should always have proper adult supervision while enjoying the resort facilities.

We've stayed at this resort 3-5 times and have always enjoyed our stay. This time we stayed in a privately owned 1BR condo booked through VRBO. I recommend Grand Atlantic to anyone who is looking for an affordable place that's clean, safe, and has all the amentities.

Positives:
Rooms are clean, up to date, and well equipped to handle your whole family. Kitchens have all the basic necessities needed to cook and serve meals. Balconies are nice and roomy and are a great place to relax. We especially appreciate that Grand Atlantic has now installed a hot tub. We usually visit in the cold offseason, so this was a big plus.

Negatives:
I would not recommend booking through VRBO, but instead through the resort directly. Our vrbo booking did not include housekeeping, and when we had an A/C problem I had to fix it myself because the owner of the condo was not local.

Room Tip: Book through the hotel directly. Don't use sites like VRBO.
