“An honest Opinion”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2011

This will be brief and to the point. Our stay was from May 7 - 11, 2011. Had an ocean view room. Room had small upgrades such as granite counter tops, bathroom had been painted and tiled. That was all I can say nice about the stay. Room was very small, bathroom had hair all over it, windows/sliding glass doors had a thick cloudy film on all of them - what good is an ocean view if your a seeing it through dirty glass. Room as a whole felt grimy, unclean. Bed was so soft, is sank in the middle when we slept on it - needless to say we had sore backs when we got back home. Overall, I would not stay at Forest Dunes again! Once again this is an honest opinion.

We just returned yesterday from our first visit to Myrtle Beach. While this condo hotel isn't in the heart of the action, if that's what you are looking for, it was perfect for us. It is located on the north end of central Myrtle Beach, which is more of a residential area. It was great, quiet and wow, when you venture one block from the beach, you feel like you are more in a homey area. We loved that aspect. When we arrived, it was a quick check in and we proceeded to our room/condo. The space of the condo was more than ample for the two of us. We rented the one bedroom king, with one and one half baths, which was great. The bedroom was separate from the other parts of the condo, which was great. While the entire condo could receive some updating, it wasn't horrible. If you are looking for luxury, you won't find it here, but the room was more than adequate for the average joe. Because the condo is just a walk across the street from the beach, it was great that we could run back to the room when needed. The condo/hotel has many amenities you will find at many of the resorts down there, from inside and outside pools, wi-fi, lazy river, laundry facilities, weightroom, hot tub and even a resturant/bar on the premises, so if you really didn't want to leave the resort, you didn't have to. We never used the resturant but did make use of the other facilities on the premises and they were again, more than adequate but then again, you are on vacation so if you are one to need all that high tech weight equipment, you might be disappointed. Take a walk on the beach instead, take in the sights, because the beach is the reason you're there, not unless of course, you golf all day. Yes, we read the reviews and because we were looking for a cheaper option to stay for a 5 night get away, we chose the Forest Dunes. We got our monies worth and would consider staying here again. Some things you get there that you won't get at a condo are daily maid service, which while on vacation, you really do want. Overall, we weren't disappointed with our stay. We, of course, going into it, knew it was BikeWeek but it didn't cause any issues with us, nor did we see any issues.
On some other notes:
Dinners we enjoyed were Cagney's Steakhouse, Luigi's, Villa Romana, Kansas City Bazilian Steakhouse and Romando's. We enjoyed all of the resturants but found Romando's the run of the mill italian, which I wasn't crazy about.
The Broadway on the Beach center was nice and we did go back to for another look around.
We took a rather quick walk on the boardwalk and felt chased away by all the hagglers there trying to entice you to "COME TALK TO ME, HOW LONG YOU HERE FOR". Yes, I do understand we all need to make a living but if I was interested in that sort of thing, I would be coming to you.
The town of Myrtle is ok, and yes, pretty much your stereotypical beach town, with beach souvenier shops aplenty. Lots of miniture golf places and rides for the kids, though going this tinme of year, you would be hard pressure to keeping the kids entertained for a lengthy stay but I am sure it is much better in season. The entire area, as with many places these days, had seen the highs and the lows of the economy and there were some areas that were questionable but where the our place was, you didn't get that sense.
Would we go back, sure.....Would we stay at the same resort, sure....We weren't disappointed.

The staff at Forest Dunes are wonderful they helped with anything we needed and more! The hotel is clean and beautiful, the beach is right across the street and is also very clean. The manager was very nice he made sure our honeymoon weekend turned around and made up for the hotel that almost ruined it. They let us look at the rooms before we checked in which was amazing!!!

Room Tip: every room is great!!!!

What a great spot. This is our third year coming to Forest Dunes. We have been in three different units and have liked them all. They were all different as each owner makes it their own. I love the beach here and go for a walk every morning. Everyone is so friendly and we have met so many other people from Ontario at the pool.

This was my first stay(me, my wife, and teenage son) in this resort. We absouletly loved it. The ocean front room we stayed was clean, nice balcony, great service. The food at the bar was great!!! I can honestly say they don't charge enough money to stay here. Thank you!!

Forest Dunes has a great location offering a good view of the ocean. Check in was smooth and the front desk was very accomodating to us. We get to the 1 bedroom condo and i was nothing short of impressed. It was more than iexpected as it was very clean, spacious and comfortable. One of my favorite parts was the wide balcony that extended from the bedroom to the livingroom. The pool was nice as well as the indoor pool. They also had a restaurant on-site, but i did not eat there. (nothing personal) Overall, i was very pleased!!!

We had stayed at Forest Dunes about 20 years ago and I don't think the rooms have been updated since. Wallpaper was coming off the bedroom walls, blankets had holes in them. We ended up going to Costco to purchase new blankets to sleep with. The Kitchen and bathrooms were very outdated and not very clean. The exterior is very nice, the pool area and lobby etc was nice as well as the location is great because it's so close to the beach. We did end up having a nice time because we were outside most of the time, but I wouldn't stay there again.
