My family reunion took place at the Holiday Inn Waterway, June 23-25th. After driving 7 hours from Maryland, we arrived at the hotel to find the hotel was undergoing renovations. We were never informed of these renovations, because if I had known I would have stayed at another hotel or location. There were 3 big parties at the hotel; 2 family reunions and a wedding party, speaking to members from both groups, no one was aware of the renovations. Only 1 of the two elevators were working, which by the end of the weekend wasn't operation properly. For instance I was on the 4th floor, the elevator wouldn't take me straight down or up we had to stop on each floor and this is after waiting a great deal of time for the elevator to come. The rooms were horrible. The bathrooms weren't clean and when the maid service came in they didn't clean the bathroom completely. The room was run down and smelled moldy. I question if the sheets were clean, in fact I have developed a rash on my arm, shoulder and back after staying at the hotel. The hallways of the hotel were also horrible. The carpets were really worn and there was pant on the carpet and parts of the carpets in certain rooms were pulled up. Although the restaurant and bar area were the best parts of the hotel, we discovered ants in the fruit on the breakfast bar. The area were the hotel was located was horrible. They advertise area shopping when ALL the local retail was closed. I took my concerns to the staff and the only response I got was, well you got a discount. Well I got a discount because my family reunion was held at the hotel and we blocked of a large block of rooms. Our rate was $129 per night and I must say it was a rip off. I will never stay at a Holiday Inn again.

We stayed at this hotel for a week and it was wonderful. This hotel is very accommodating. We had an issue with the billing and they straightened it out... My family and I had such a wonderful time. This is a few miles from Myrtle beach which is great because it is a little more quieter and serene...My family enjoyed the indoor and outdoor pool. The rooms were lovely and very, very clean. I was happy because I am very particular about cleaniness and this hotel past the test.....

I had to remember we were not at a resort so they didn't have activities for the family and there was one restaraunt on the premises which limited our food selection but, you could take a short drive down to Kings Hway and get your food desire....

I loved this hotel. Bring your friends and family it is lovely...

P.S. right next door on 17 North there is a mall with a Walmart, Cosco's and Home Depot... and I love these stores

My husband and I love to stay at the Holiday Inn on the Waterway. It's close to everything, but removed from the big traffic areas close to the beach. Rooms have always been nice. We've really been happy staying there.

This was my family's first vist to myrtle beach. We picked this hotel because it was close to every thing but far enough away to stay out of the maddness. Check in was at 3 pm. We got there at 11 am. I thought we were in for a long wait but they were very understanding and not only did they get us in at 12 pm but also got us a room with the view of the waterway. The room was very nice.
The only gripe I have is that it is advertised as haveing an outlet mall right next to it. While it does have one. There is only one or two stores in it. So if you go make sure you get a view of the waterway or you will have a view of an empty outlet mall instead.

This was my first trip to Myrtle Beach and I was a little weary about booking a hotel after reading the reviews on this site. However, I decided to go with a hotel brand that I know, Holiday Inn. We stayed at the Holiday Inn West on the Waterway in Nov. for three nights. This hotel is very nice. It has a very nice restaurant and bar. All of the staff that we came in contact with were great. Our room was also very clean. I would recommend getting a room with a river view. It is nice to sit out on the balcony and watch the boats go by. The only downside to this hotel is trying to find it from 501 but once you have traveled on 501 1-2 times, it is easy to determine which exit to get off on.
This hotel is only 3 miles from the beach. We got to the beach with no problem and it was quick. After looking at some of the hotels on the beach, we were glad that we chose to stay away from the beach. The traffic was much heavier around the beach area also. Another plus to this hotel is that it is only 5 minutes away from Myrtle Beach Outlet and Broadway at the Beach. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great value away from all the beach traffic.

My husband two kids and I stayed at the Holiday Inn West at Waccamaw this past weekend. The hotel is nice and clean, the room was clean and average sized. We received a great rate which included breakfast for two and the kids ate free. The food was very good. The pools were clean and well kept, nice lobby, friendly staff and my husband enjoyed the drinks at the bar. a quiet hotel. Flaws about the hotel is the housekeepers are slow in cleaning the rooms. The first morning we left the hotel quite early to attend a track meet, three hours later after our return the room was not cleaned yet. We left a few minutes later for the pool, an hour later, the room was not cleaned, the maid then asked if we need service we replied "yes". We left again for at least 2 hours, guess what, the room was not cleaned! Instead she left a bag of towels sets and shampoo in front of the door. After complaining to the front desk, a maid came 30 minutes later and made the beds and set up the bathroom. Another flaw is the the tricky roads leading to the hotel. Be sure to follow the road sighns on hwy 501, lots of construction going on. Otherwise the hotel location is not bad, walking distance to an outlet mall and a nice waterway scenary in the back of the hotel. Good place to stay if you don't mind being ten minutes away fromt he beach and the very busy Ocean Blvd.
