My wife and I and a few friend stayed at the Ocean Reef for a week, My wife had just recovered from brain surgery and our accomodations were outstanding . The hotel is extremely comfortable, and well kept. The staff is very courteous and prompt on your request..We stayed in an oceanfront deluxe room, #1410, it was clean, comfortable with a small kitchenette with dishes, utensils, microvave, refrigerator and all the amenties you needed. The kitchenette was a little dated but completely functional . The hotel has ample parking including handicap parking for Hotel guest. The hotel is close to local restaurants and shopping,it is family oriented with a multitude of pools for kids and adults alike. It is also located in a quiet area at night but close enough to all attractions. The restaurant on site is very clean and serves breakfast and afternoon snacks. Overall, you receive superior accomodations for the price with a balcony view of the ocean.. second to none. If you get a chance, go to Bennett's Calabash Seafood Restaurant for a memorable and tasty meal.

I chose Ocean Reef after spending hours searching online for an affordable but nice beachfront location in the Myrtle Beach Area. I was not disappointed. My Grandson and I spent 4 days there and had a wonderful time. The resort is beautiful and our room was very nice and very comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. My Grandson is already planning our return next summer.

We stayed four nights at the resort for our honeymoon and we loved every minute of it. We stayed in the junior executive suite which had a kitchen dining area, a living room with a balcony, and a king sized bedroom with another balcony. It was a nice room, it felt more like a one bedroom apartment with an ocean view. The hall ways look dated but the room itself and the lobby are very nice. We loved the pool that and the beach are where we spent most of our time. We also loved the banana boat lounge where we ordered room service from a few times during our stay. The food is cheap and really good. The elevators scare me a little the first set creak when you ride in them so we used the other set closer to the pool, but other than that we loved staying there and we plan to go back some day to the same resort. We went in mid May and there are a lot of families with kids but it wasn't out of hand. Just keep that in mind for when you want to go.

Check in was great and the desk person was very friendly! The room was nice - we stayed in a Jr suite - so we had a little kitchen, washer/dryer, living room, bedroom, etc. The room decor could use a little updating! It was a little tight in the living room area with the table/chairs, couch, coffee table, and entertainment center. But overall we liked the room and especially having the washer/dryer!

Being right on the ocean was great, beautiful view!! We also liked the pools (we have a 2 year old) so the different kid pools were great!

The parking was a potential issue - We left the hotel the Thursday before Memorial Day Weekend so luckily it didn't affect us. The resort has 3 flat lots for parking and a parking ramp. If you come back to the hotel 6pm or later, you'll have to park in the ramp. Appaerntly on the Thursday before Memorial Day is the start of a biker rally week. So the resort put out a note at the desk that only trucks could park on the 1st level of the ramp, only bikes could park on the 2nd level of the ramp and only trailers could be parked on the 3rd level of the ramp. If a car parked in the ramp, they would tow it.

If the entire ramp is taken up by trucks, bikes, and trailers.... and the flat lots are all filled by 7pm.... where are the non-biker guests suppose to park their cars?! As I said we were leaving that day, so we didn't have to worry about it. But many non-biker guests were NOT happy about the parking situation for the weekend.

I am going to keep this short and (somewhat) sweet. So here is a pro/con list:
Pros
* Large rooms - we had the two bedroom with a pull out couch.
* Close to ocean - the beach is busy, but gorgeous
* A lot of chaise lounges
* Variety of pools (kiddie, large, hot tub)
* Friendly employees

Cons
* Filthy - gum and two-year-old graffitti (said summer 2008 and winter 2009 on walls) in the sauna; pool is dirty; wrappers and pop cans stewn everywhere
* Many unattended kids - not the hotel's fault, it is just something people should be aware of if they are looking for a quiet trip
- Not very responsive - our room phone didn't work, so we had to call the front desk using our cell phones. We called them 3 times about the broken room phones. They thanked us for letting them know, but they said they weren't able to get to it during our 5-day vacation.
* No extra tolietries - they do not have conditioner or lotion like many other places do. We even called the front desk to get some lotion and we were told that Ocean Reef didn't provide lotion for guests. So make sure you bring everything.
* Not much to do for the over 21 crowd - unless you have a vehicle. There is a nice bar (Tommy the bartender is amazing) with friendly people at the hotel. But it is usually empty, it doesn't have music, and it closes at 11 p.m. We walked up and down the beach and asked people if anything was within walking distance for nightlight, and we were told no.

This is just an FYI
* If you don't have a car, the closest store with food, that is not ridiculously priced, is a CVS about a mile away. And there is a beer liquer store (ABC Packaging) about a half-mile away.

It is not a terrible place because the staff is nice and there is plenty to do with children. We (5 adults) were probably the wrong guests for this hotel.

Thanks for reading. Hope this helps!

Arrived on Friday night, were checked in quickly. The room was exactly as advertised-we got one room-2 queen beds with a kitchenette. An amazing ocean view-we slept with the door open every night to enjoy the ocean sounds. The staff and cleaning staff were wonderful. The beach was clean, pleanty of room, and one of the only ones lit up at night. Pools were clean and had alot of choices for kids of all ages.
Only one complaint-we were told that the resort fees were one amount, but we paid another. It' wasn't a great difference but next time I'll be sure in advance.

I have stayed at this hotel several times. Each time was great. The staff is excellent. Bolla-( not sure how her name is spelled) is usually the one who makes my reservation. She always takes the time to make sure that you get what you want. I usually come with senior citizens and she always make sure our needs are met..Stay at this hotel and you will never stay anywhere else at Myrtle Beach.
