We first visited this property in June of 2014. We had several complaints, such as heavy construction and loud location of room (on the end of hall with constantly slamming door), and completed the customer survey. We never hear a word from the resort. My in-laws had already booked a trip for the week of 7/6. This time, we stayed in a suite overlooking the ocean. The room was clean. However, this trip was even worse based on: 1) Wesley, the housekeeping personnel on our hall who was extremely rude on several occasions. First, he banged loudly on our door when we arrived demanding the luggage cart we had used back, stating "that is only for maintenance to help customers" well, we would have gladly accepted the help as there was no luggage assistance. The next day, we left the room with our small baby in a stroller, and as soon as the door closed, realized we forgot our sunglasses. Wesley refused to let us back in the room (we had just left) and roughly told us to go to the front desk. 2) Our rooms keys were a disaster. They never worked, and we had to get at least 4 replacements. We were constantly told not to keep them near electronics. Well, this definitely wasn't the problem as we had no cell phone service, we never carried our phones. 3) We were never able to have a pool chair during our entire stay. My husband wakes early, and said guests were out as early as 5:30 AM putting towels out to "hold" chairs. Sitting on the grass all week was frustrating. 4) Overall, our assessment is that this property is poorly managed. It has potential, but there isn't anyone in charge to pull it all together. Not worth the cost at this time. We will head back to North Beach Plantation next year.

Thank you for your recent review. At the Island Vista, we try to deliver the best vacation experience available, and we value our guests’ input. We send the guest survey as a tool to help us identify areas which might need improvement. We are very fortunate that almost all that are completed and returned indicate a positive experience… we anticipate this result, we like to get word that everything went well, and we don’t generally respond to those. I will guess that your first experience here was of that nature… I always respond to those whose survey reply might indicate that the experience was less than expected. Occasionally, anything from a mechanical or electronic failure to a simple misunderstanding can occur that could lead to that, and it is very important to reply to such a guest. With a little investigation, often an explanation is available… sometimes, it’s not, and an apology is in order. In any case however, it is important to thank our guests for indicating when a real problem exists, address the problem with the proper procedures, and make sure that the guest is aware that their next vacation here is our important opportunity to provide a better experience.

We do offer complimentary bell service to our arriving and departing guests (and anyone in-house who requests that assistance). We have staff dedicated solely to that task, and when they depart, our housemen or maintenance techs take over that duty… we always have someone to help. Guest service is our top priority at the Island Vista, and we are all available to help however needed. Our luggage carts are not generally out of the staff’s hands for the reason that they’re almost always being used to help someone. Keys are a very sensitive issue… if a guest leaves the accommodation without the key, specific and detailed identification of the guest is required for entry or re-issue of keys. It’s a little inconvenient if you’re the one who needs the key, but it’s also a good feeling to know that your accommodation is secured by those requirements. The key encoders are also engineered with security in mind… if one member of your party requests a new key, the issue of the new key will negate the magnetic code of any previously issued keys. This does happen occasionally, but we have checked and verified that our key security system is operational and that no other such reports have occurred. With regard to the chairs and chaise longues, we prefer to depend on the courtesy of our guests. We do have a pool security officer however, and one of his tasks is to monitor the use of those (or more correctly, the non-use) to try to prevent that very issue you described. We have had guests approach the front desk with a need for additional lawn furniture, and we immediately call our maintenance staff to assist… no one needs to sit directly on the lawn unless they prefer to do so.

Thank you for choosing the Island Vista, and we hope you will visit us again.

Sincerely,

This was our second year back at Island Vista and we LOVED it! The hotel is not surrounded by other hotels which makes the beach so much quieter and spacious-unlike other hotels there that sit right on top of one another. We stayed in the ocean view hotel room which was perfect for the two of us. Last year we stayed in a ocean front suite which was bigger and had a great ocean view but we had 5 in our party so we decided smaller room would be fine this time-it was other than missing out on the spectacular view. The rooms are clean and they use duvets on the bed that are washed which is so much better than the other hotels where you have the mystery stains all over the bed covers. The Cypress Room is absolutely the best for dining. We had almost all our meals from there. Whether you are with the family, just the two of you, or just the friends this place is the one. We could never stay any where else other than here.

Room Tip: I recommend the ocean front rooms. When you look out the balcony you see nothing but ocean for miles and miles. Ocean view rooms have part ocean part sand and buildings.

My husband and I are frequent visitors to Myrtle Beach (normally for long weekend trips). We normally stay at Hampton Oceanfront located at the southern end of MB.  If we stay at the northern end we typically choose Dunes Village.  Hampton Inn is becoming a little pricey so were looking for another option and we found it!

During our stay (June 20th and June 21), we staying in two different rooms. King oceanfront on penthouse floor and ocean view room on the side of the building (10th floor).  Both rooms were great. We actually prefer the ocean view room facing the south because you get a great view of the beach and the downtown area toward the sky wheel. The ocean view room is also bigger (two queen beds and table/4 chairs). The king oceanfront room had an oversized chair and ottoman. We originally thought we would like to have an oceanfront suite, but from what I saw, that is no longer true. The suites have the bedroom at the back of the unit and they have tube TVs vs. flat screen.

The resort is located on a beautiful stretch of beach in the middle of a residential area. The beach is flat and the sand isn't full of crushed shells...perfect for walking barefoot.

There is are restaurants onsite and you're within walking distance of River City Cafe. We had fish tacos from the Tiki Hut and they were very excellent. The coffee from the Cypress Room is some of the best coffee I've every had!

They have free DVDs in the lobby; similar to the Red Box process.

The front desk staff were nice and helpful. First shift more knowledgeable than third shift but hey...I've worked third shift before so they may have had an off day when we were there.

Parking was tight. We like to keep our beach gear in the car between trips to the beach. If you aren't lucky enough to get a spot on the pool level, it can be a pretty good walk back/forth but it is manageable.

We enjoyed or stay and will definitely return!

Room Tip: If traveling as a couple, ocean view or king oceanfront!

This was the second year that my family and I stayed at island vista and it never disappoints us. The location is perfect on the beach and the pools/hot tubs are fantastic. The staff is always professional and go above and beyond to meet our needs. While staying at the hotel we quite often enjoy eating at the cypress room and its great!! We have for sure found our vacation spot for years to come!

Currently spending my 60th here with 2 of my daughters and a friend. The suite (#603) is a one bedroom with a Murphy bed and sofa bed. The furnishings are newer and 5 he view of the ocean is breathtaking. The lobby isn't much to look at but that doesn't matter once you enter the room. Also spent a night at South Wind which, in my view, isn't quite as nice. Would love to own an oceanfront unit here.
