Sea Mist is a hotel that I remember going to as a child. It was great then and it's still good now but they just haven't changed the decor in 20 some odd years which sometimes makes the hotel look old and worn out but it still has a water park on site with water slides and lazy rivers for guests there (at $1/person/day) which I think is great and beats having to pay a higher amount to go to a bigger waterpark for one day. It's perfect for a family with kids with putt putt and a mini waterpark separate from the larger waterpark for smaller kids, has an arcade and several restaurants on site. Overall a good value and pet friendly!

Stayed briefly in the oceanfront building. 2 very small, very slow elevators for a large building. The entire complex was extremely dated, worn out, unkept, but crowded. The beach is clean, the room was fairly clean but disappointing in the maintainence and amenities. No sink in our kitchenette to wash dishes. The bathroom has a funny smell, poor chaulking and ? mold in the corners. If you plan to stay out from sunrise to sunset and use this as a flop house, book away. But this is a place that has hard working staff and very very little put back into the property's upkeep or beautification. Chipped paint, small hot tube, few signs to direct you around a massive property. May be tough to get the elderly, disabled or toddlers around. Just wanted to warn you.

Room Tip: The ocean view was fabulous, but couldn't make up for the beatup balcony

My family and I visited Myrtle Beach at the beginning of June and were very disappointed! We reserved 2 rooms that would sleep 5 with a kitchen and the photo's information posted online are of another one of the chains hotels(which is on the beach). We were ok with not having beach view however when we got there our rooms were across the street from the beach--. The rooms we were in were in terrible shape- they were old and run down! The safe wouldn't work and to make matters worse there was a black dirty sock left in the safe! It get's better- we had no smoke detector either- which the maintenance man came and placed after we complained. Also- the WIFI wouldn't work unless you were in the hotels lobby, which was a block away from the rooms: who wants to go sit in the lobby!?. There's more: the drink machine had hot drinks in it, the TV's had a fuzzy picture, when our rooms were cleaned the trash was never emptied(we would call to have it picked up after we set it in front of our door). Finally the icing that got us outta there: the elevator got stuck with a 13 year old boy inside for over an hour!! Can you say lawsuit!?
It was so bad we were scheduled to stay until Friday -we left Thursday! The ad's online were very misleading...

Very disappointed!!! My husband and 4 kids stayed 4 nights... Never was so happy for a vacation to end. Room was run down, had to spend part of a day with maintenance there fixing things. The fridge and phone didn't work. The back door didn't lock, the vent I the bathroom was hanging from the ceiling, the handle to the water fell off. The room was filthy, bathroom had hair in the tub, sink and floor. The pools and water park; however, were well maintained and the employees were all very polite and professional.
It is obvious that whoever owns this " hotel" only cares for their bottom line and does not reinvest into their property...doesn't seem to care for their customers either. Tryed to contact management several times, never got a hold of anyone above the ladies at the front desk.

Room Tip: They do have newer buildings. I think the driftwood is one of them. Those rooms may be better, but...

We are a family of five. We take a beach vacation every year; this was our first time in Myrtle Beach. We researched for a couple of weeks before booking a larger suite at Sea Mist. I should have been alerted by the unprofessional, unhelpful attitude of the woman who answered the phone when I called to get more information. but my husband was sold on the amenities of the "resort" and really wanted to stay here, so I booked what they call a large oceanfront suite. Big mistake. When we pulled up to the office, my husband and I knew we were in for disappointment. The office is very small, understaffed, and the staff does not communicate in English very well. By this, I mean they speak English reasonably well, but they don't seem to understand it. We had to repeat very simple quesions like, "Is our room ready, and where is the building" more than once to get clear answers. Also, the entire time we were speaking with the staff, they were speaking to each other in another language, something that is extremely unprofessional and rude. We had a very hard time unloading our luggage in front of our buliding, the Spray building. There was no loading or unloading zone, so we had to use the loading/unloading zone of the building next door and drag our luggage across the parking lot to the Spray building. The elevator was small and slow; our family of 5 and our luggage could not fit in it, so my husband and son took the luggage on the elevator and my daughters and I took the stairs. The building smelled musty; like "old dirt." We got to our room and could not believe how small it was. There is no way seven people could stay in that room. The five of us were cramped and uncomfortable the whole time. The rooms are extremely narrow. In the front room there were two beds, a shared nightstand, two lamps and a dresser. All this furniture was old and barely functional. The dresser drawers did not open or close smoothly, the lamps gave off very little light and there was no overhead light. We literally used our flashlights to read with. There was only room for one person to walk between the ends of the beds and the dresser, so we were constantly bumping into and moving around each other when trying to get ready for the day or ready for bed. Because the room was so small, there was no room on one side of the beds between the beds and the wall to walk, so one person has to crawl into bed from the end of it. Extremely irritating after a long day of sight-seeing, when all you want to do is fall into a comfortable bed. Which they were not. The mattresses were extremley uncomfortable, the linens did not fit properly and came off during the night. The pillows were small and thin and we could not get replacements or extras. The comforters were old and dingy and too big for the beds so they constantly slipped off.
The bathroom was a joke. It was so tiny it was difficult for one person to use it comfortably. With five people, we needed to share it if we were going to get anywhere within a reasonable amount of time, and this was frustratingly difficult. There is only one shelf, so we did not have enough room to place even the basics, like our toothbrushes, soap, and hairdryer. Everything else had to stay in our bags, which we had to carry in and out everytime we showered. The bathtub was tiny and dingy. Again, only one narrrow shelf on which our bottles of shampoo and body wash couldn't fit, so they had to sit on the floor or in the bathtub. The showerhead was very small and the water pressure was low, so it never felt like i was getting really clean or rinsed well. The kitchenette is ridiculously small. One way we always save money on our vacations is by eating in our rooms once or twice a day. This was almost impossible. The burners on the tiny stovetop did not fit properly, so pots and pans were always tilted. The cookware provide was cheap and inadequate for even the simplest meal. There is again nowhere to story anything, so all our groceries sat on the table, on the tiny microwave (which sat on top of the equally tiny refiigerator, which opened to face the wall), or on the floor. The balcony was tiny, only one person could comfortably get out on it at a time and it was filthy. The housekeeping was unpredictable and very stingy with towels and washcloths. We had to show them our paperwork which stated we were to receive two towels and a washcloth for each person in the room for each day of our stay in order to get them. The amenities which sold my husband on this place did not make up for all this. The waterpark is very small, after a couple of hours my kids were bored. The golf course was tiny. The food at Tena's and Three Steps Down is below average and service was too. We got passes to Family Adventure Amusement Park and Water Park with our reservation. THESE were very nice, although the water park is small. All in all, we were disappointed in almost every way with Sea Mist. We loved Myrlte Beach and will be back, but NEVER stay here again. There are much nicer places further north where we will stay in the future.

We have been to Myrtle Beach two times in the past and stayed at Westgate Resorts and Grand Atlantic Resorts. Both were very nice and enjoyable. This year we decided to try Sea Mist because of the advertised events for the kids. We arrived and saw the main office and my 9 yr. old began to cry when she saw the buildings. This place was SO old and run down. Our building was on the oceanfront so it was a bit better than the others but not by much. The indoor pool and jacuzzi were very filthy and unkept. There were other pools that were very small and had caution tape around them. They were closed for our entire stay! None of the property looked as it did on the advertisements. The buildings were rusty and peeling. The patio was gross with dripping rusty water coming from an a/c unit cemented in the wall. The rooms smelled really stale and so did the hallways. The waterpark was okay but you had to pay just to get in which was a rip off when you have paid to stay at the so-called resort. This was not a resort at all. It is an old, run-down hotel with really good ads. DONT STAY HERE!
