Sea Mist Oceanfront Resort

As retired couple, we loved our stay in Sea Mist. Everyone was very helpful and courteous. We did not meet any unfriendly faces. It was a perfect place for our family vacation- we stayed for 2 weeks. We also loved breakfast by Tena's. When we were there we looked around in several other hotels and condos to get some ideas. We came to the conclusion that Sea Mist will be the one, so we made reservations for next year for 1 Month . Even though we did not take our dogs along, we enjoyed staying in a comfortable, family oriented, and pet friendly place.

Staying for s soccer tournament we had a GREAT rate and oceanfront rooms. So the view was awesome and room was pretty clean, but it is OLD Myrtle Beach and pictures in the lobby showed it is being torn down and rebuilt. So hopefully the NEW Sea Mist will help bring up the old MB oceanfront in that area.

After reading varied reviews, I wondered what the Sea Mist was really like. We were in the area on business Nov 4th and decided to book an "oceanfront" room in the Tides Building. I believe it is the newest building. We unloaded at the main door of the Tides Building and parked a few yards away. Breakfast at Tena's was great. While I cannot say our room was new or plush, it was bright and cheery inside. The TV was new and had a good picture. For some reason, I couldn't get on the wifi, but there were computers downstairs I could use. The kitchen was clean. The bathtub sparkled. Mattresses were comfortable. This would have been a three or four rating due to the age of the furniture and carpet, but the view was so spectacular and the staff was nice to us in every way, I gave it a five rating this time. The price was right and the view beautiful. This pertains to November. I cannot rate the activities, gift shop, etc, since a lot was closed for the season. We will be back in May and will review again at that time.

Room Tip: Buildings vary in age and condition. Ask for the Tides Building and stay one floor above ground lev...

My family drove down to Myrtle Beach with another family and both of us booked rooms at the Sea Mist just to stay one night before we could check into the our other hotel. We knew it wasn't going to be luxury accomodations, but we definitely didn't think they would be this subpar. We stayed in the Sea Spray building. I knew it would be run down and older, but it was just one night and we thought surely it can't be that bad for one night. First, we get there and there is NO parking at all. The Sea Mist is basically on the "ghetto" end, and there was no way I am walking a couple of blocks in the ghetto with two children 5 and under with a suitcase at midight. So my husband dropped us off and then he walked through the ghetto back to us. He mentioned seeing a hooker walking around our parking lot/alley way on his way back. The other family we came with saw the hooker over by their Sea Mist building too, which was the large tower across the parking lot from the Sea Spray.

In the room, there was hair in the bathtub. The shampoos and lotions in the bathroom were 1/2 and 1/3 of the way full. OUR DOOR DID NOT LOCK!! The chain lock was broken in half, and the mount was broken off the door and hanging. The actualy lock didn't lock either, and we ended up "locking" the door with the ironing board in the room. The mattress was only about 4 inches thick. And there was sand in the bed.

In the morning, the maintenance lady came to check on our door lock, did I mention she came at 7:00am?! Not the best way to wake up on your first day of vacation, especially when my husband asked them to not fix the door until we left, since we would be checking out anyway. When we left the next morning, a dog was walking down the stairs at the same time we were. Just a dog, no owner. ????! It was just for one night, but it was a learning experience for us! I simply cannot imagine ANYONE would stay more than one night here. Pay the extra money and stay somewhere that is cleaner, the door locks, there are no random animals, and actually have parking somewhat close to where you are going to be.

We had another nice stay at the Sea Mist from 10/20/13 to 10/25/13. This is a pet friendly motel and my dog really enjoys herself here. This time we were in the Spray building because the Sandcastle was under renovation. The great thing about Spray is that they are family suites so the bedroom is separate from the living room/kitchen. The really bad thing about Spray is that you only get a half balcony because of a chest of drawers in the living room area that protrudes out on the other half of the balcony. This makes the balcony very tight, too tight for two adults and a 50 pound dog. Once again the staff was very friendly and helpful. We booked some golf outings, and Bob was very helpful in setting us up and getting us there. This is a great place to stay if you are traveling with a larger dog. Be sure to eat breakfast at Tena's; this is the best breakfast around! If at all possible, stay away from the ground floor. Unless you are a very social person, you will not have any privacy because people hang out on the patio (outside of your door) all day. If you are traveling with a small dog, remember to take some kind of fencing to put across the rail of the balcony. The bars are spaced wide enough that a small dog can and will slip through. Just remember, this is your typical oceanfront Myrtle Beach motel. Do not go with the expectation of a five star hotel, and you will not be disappointed. We plan to return to the Sea Mist again for our next oceanfront vacation.

Room Tip: If you want to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view of the ocean, be sure to book oceanfront and re...

STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESORT!!!! First I called and made reservations for an oceanfront balcony room with jacuzzi. What I got was an ocean VIEW with a table and chair sitting area that was oceanfront instead. When I called the front desk I was told there was no oceanfront room with a jacuzzi. Then I had to talk to the main office and they said it was reserved already. I wanted to speak to the manager--Jim, but he was too busy to talk with me even after leaving my phone number. The ocean view balcony light didn't have a cover over it and it was bright so we took it out but replaced it in the morning so the light wouldn't be keeping us awake. After requesting to speak to Jim, we then started getting harassed about the light stating it was fire code, but yet the one right beside us was out and they never replaced that one. Jacuzzi was nice but had sand in it. Shower was horrible, not enough pressure. The tile floor was awful, turned feet and socks completely black. Cleaning people didn't sweep bathroom after was asked to since my hair falls out easy. Asked to have new sheets on bed because it felt gritty and was told they didn't have any king size sheets clean. Eventually did change in short time though which was good. Bathroom towels had stains on them. Nothing like website!!!! most of what they offered was closed. Breakfast at Tena's was absolutely wonderful. Lady doing the grill to order was fantastic. Exceptionally friendly and deserves great tips all the time. Anyone can eat there. Eat at Tena's but stay elsewhere!!!!!

We stayed here in April and went back in October. Our accommodations this time were on the ground floor and it was a handicap accessible room. Ground floor is a BIG mistake. No real privacy when you want to sit out and enjoy the sights, smells, and sounds of the ocean. "Bad neighbors" put a real damper on our last two nights. The bathroom had a large "roll in" shower. Sounds nice, doesn't it. The shower curtain may as well not been there, you can not keep the water from the shower in the shower and the bathroom floor got EXTREMELY slick; I almost fell twice. I also don't see how a person in wheelchair could even begin to open the door to this room. We will probably be back to Sea Mist but not on a ground floor, and we will shop around for other places now.
