You never have to leave the resort except to go shopping. It has everything there. They have the most friendly staff. They have putt putt for free! The kids always have a blast. The breakfast is excellent and be sure to try the omelets from Mr. Ray...amazing! Don't forget to ask for his homemade salsa! The new updates make the resort beautiful. And don't forget to watch a wedding from the balcony!

3-night stay in Premium View double room in the Live Oak Building with rollaway to accommodate family of 5. Premium view is a direct ocean front room in building shaped like a "U" and these rooms are in the bottom of the "U" facing towards the ocean. Good new/badnews -these rooms are in direct proximity to the elevators. This hotel is directly in the flight path of the Myrtle Beach Airport. Doesn't offer pool towels. 5 signs advertising new Back Porch snack & drink stand near pool, but it as closed due to rain all 4 days we were there. Leaves only one option for food and drink at the pier. Food and drink was good there, though. About $7 per person for sandwich and fry basket. $4 beer and $7 frozen drinks. Lazy River at Palmetto building has much better current to it. Housekeepers skipped us one day - called twice but only got replacement toilet paper and towels. Clearly a focus on getting rooms turned over for incoming guests. Room featured 2 queen beds - comfortable with adequate bedding. Flat screen tv and full size fridge, microwave. Best plus of this property is its extreme south end location - it is next to the State Park so the beach is way less crowded than other properties. No other restaurants within walking distance except Damons, but other places within a 5 minute drive. Mall is 10 minutes away with a bounty of restaurants. The pier is a great draw for fisherman since it is in front of the hotel. Poles and bait for $23 for the day. Some good catches with baby sharks,Croaker, ribbon fish, etc. This 3 building property has in the same type of room in all of them. The Cypress is a 3 floor low-rise building in the middle - no elevator, but closest to the ocean and overlooks the only deep (5 foot) pool. The Palmetto is L-shaped and closest to the better lazy rover and the indoor/outdoor pool. The Live Oak building is closest to the pier. Overall, this was an average property - it served its purpose for $175 a night of oceanfront, but it wasn't anything special.

Room Tip: good location

Green Features: good promotion of towel replacement policy, especially when they don't volunteer to replace them regularly!

When we first arrived we were in love. Weston at the front desk was fabulous! Even though we arrived early and our room wasn't ready he took care of us and told us we would be called when our room was ready and if we hadn't received a call by 4 to call or come by. So when we came back at 3:45 it wasn't ready the front desk associate was polite about it and so we waited around for a bit longer and the next front desk associate was just completely rude. Made me feel like I was being an inconvenience to her. After that we were just completely put off with our stay there. The room was not worth what we paid. Must be paying for the view which is quite nice. Nothing in the area have to drive 10 minutes to get to anything. Weston was the only good thing about our stay. Will not be back.

My family and I just returned from a last-minute-booked long weekend at the Springmaid Resort. We were pretty skeptical going in but went with Springmaid based on Travel Advisor reviews, and we were glad we did.
The resort sits at the south end of the long strip of mostly older Myrtle Beach hotels. There is a public beach access area on one side and National Park beaches on the other side...this provides a sort of buffer of space which, on our visit anyhow, resulted in the beaches not being overly crowded which is a nice change from the hotels that are packed in right next to one another just a few hundred yards north. A big plus.
The rooms are recently renovated and are pretty decent. Our room was clean and simply decorated; really all we were looking for. The room was an 'Oceanview Deluxe Double' which had two queen beds, a full-sized fridge, microwave, and a wall-mounted 32" LCD TV (analog channel only, but we didn't go to watch TV, no biggie). Oceanview basically means you are at about a 45 degree angle to the beachfront, which was great. Actually it was a nice break that we were at that angle, as the weather the end of June/first few days of July was wretched...windy with frequent hard downpours and local flooding for several straight days...if we were oceanfront or angled the other way (towards the south) our porch area would have been drenched all weekend. We were only pummeled by the wind and rain when exiting our room (all of the room exits are exterior at this hotel), but at least we could enjoy sitting on the balcony even while the wind and rain were whipping.
It appears that all of the rooms, including ours have a balcony overlooking both the pools (there are several, and two lazy rivers) and the beach...none appear to be at a right angle to the beach (where your 'Oceanview' requires you to lean out off of the balcony to see a sliver of ocean..another plus for Springmaid.
The pools and grounds were all well maintained and clean. Parking seemed ample enough. We did not try and of the on-site restaurants, preferring to stick to higher rated off-site restaurants (again Tripadvisor was invaluable, every meal we had in MB was better than average to outstanding). The pier was also really enjoyable for a late night stroll (open until midnight). We also enjoyed the on-site free mini golf...not a great mini golf course by any means but convenient and fun, if a bit run down.
A few things that are not so great:
All of the room appear to have pool views...a plus, until you want to try to sleep at night...many seem to be open until about midnight so they can get a bit noisy with unruly kids etc.
The rooms are a bit on the musty side...but hey, it is the beach, and we were there in the wettest weak in recent history (at least without having a tropical storm).
Bring your own beach chair - $30 a day for chair rental per chair is pretty high.
All things considered, the location was really good, really enjoyed the beaches not being as crowded as they are where the hotels are packed side by side (and with additional hotels across the street), and the rooms were fine. If we need a place to stay in Myrtle again anytime soon we will definitely go back.

Room Tip: North facing 'oceanview' rooms (at a 45 degree angle) are nice a shield you from the wind if...

In town for a baseball tournament at Cal Ripken Complex. Great location, less than a five minute drive to the airport, and 15 minutes from the complex. Luckily we were Isolated from the strip, but just a short drive/walk if you needed anything. Twelve players and 48 people total and we had endless entertainment for all ages. Beach and pier were great!

We were looking for a hotel that would accommodate our entire family. This was the place. Live Oaks building was only a few feet to walk to the pier for fishing. Clean beach! Poolside bar! Live music! Food on property. Great staff! Great activities program in place! Only (and this is a very small complaint), resort is very close to the airport. The 6:30-7am flights were a little loud, but I am up that early anyway and the family slept right through it ;-) BUT the resort itself was quiet. There were many groups there that involved youth, but there were no slamming doors, and kids running outside the door. No car horns or sirens. Was a nice change from some of the places I have stayed in at Myrtle in the past.

Luau was awesome. We had a great time and have great videos of the boys learning to hula to laugh at for years!!

We had a great time and will defintely stay there again.

Room Tip: Live Oaks building is right at the pier.....best pool option is the middle building where Marlins is...

I have been going to Springmaid for over 50 years and the remodel was only the repairs that have been negliated for the past several years. The rooms that we had didn't look at all like the pictures on web. The price has increased about 75% more than the previous year. We have always looked forward to the breakfast, but this year it was so bad we actually left the property and ate elsewhere. Which was better and less expensive. After 50 years, our family will be looking for a different place next year. The only thing that will be missed is the pier.
