“Were you expecting the Ritz?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

Took my kids to see the ocean for the very first time. Wanted to stay right on the beach with a balcony ocean view, and a kitchen so we could save on eating out. Compared rates and accommodations for more than ten hotels in that area. The Reef had by far the best rates, and the staff was very nice. Maybe not the same incidental discounts as some other hotels, no lazy river, one hot tub was out of order, but you could lay by the pool, get drinks and food, they had Karaoke each day, and it was right on the beach. The rooms were fine, shower pressure was great (a big issue with a lot of 'better' hotels), it was not completely quiet, but we didn't loose any sleep, after all it wasn't the Ritz! We expected people to be having fun, and it was a very relaxed environment. If I needed something, all I had to do was call to front desk and they took care of it. It also has free wifi. My in-laws were staying in a hotel a couple up from ours, and didn't have the fun atmosphere we did. Very family-friendly. Don't hesitate to book this place!

Room Tip: Lower floors open onto hallway which was little claustrophobic for me. Ask for higher floors which o...

I agree it was a place to stay and it did have an ocean view, however the hotel was a dump. We had made prior arrangements and had requested the highest floor available but they would only offer us the 5th floor. Our room had an awful smell and was very crowded with awful furniture. The air conditioning unit was so loud you could hardly sleep and the wait for the elevator was the most ridiculous we had ever seen. They had very little parking on the ocean front side which meant you had to park in the garage on the second row a block away.

I just want to say that the costume service was amazing.. We have had our vaca booked since February and we just found out last night, two nights before checking in that two of the people were not going to be able to come.. So, that would leave me to pay remaining balance. Which as a single parent there would have been NO way that would have been possible. So, I called them and spoke to a amazing crew. They were friendly, very informative, and spoke to me as a person and not just a paying guest. I got to use my deposit to stay a few days which, I was able to afford. I can't wait to put faces with names.

I was so worried when I booked this room because of the reviews. I'm not exactly sure what people expect, but this has been a great stay at a nice hotel. Sure the rooms are a little old, but dude, seriously, your looking out at the beautiful ocean with your family or significant other. Make the best of it, stop complaining and enjoy!!! Great place guys, we will come back.

I have stayed here many times over the years and have always enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the best days of this hotel is behind it.

The positive is that the people are very friendly and the rates are very good.

The negative is that the rooms and facilities are out dated. There were lights that did not work. The pillows were flat. The beds are hard and everyone woke up aches and pains.

But, if you plan on staying on the beach or seeing sights and are not spending much time in the room its a great value.

Room Tip: Don't get a room near a vending machine.

Dear Brian,
Thank you for being a repeat guest of the Reef. We appreciated your mentioning that you thought that the Reef was a value and that the view is full oceanfront. We regret that the pillows were and mattresses were not comfortable. The hotel is continually replacing bedding, and we regret that our guests preferences vary. Thank you again for your past business. We apologize that our bedding didn't meet your expectations.

We came down for a 3 night weekend stay. We upgraded to the penthouse suite since it was available. It has been worth every penny. The view from the wrap around balcony is amazing. The suite is very spacious and laid out well. We will definitely be returning to this hotel!

I will not stay here again. Yes, it is outdated and in need of renovations - which they say they are in the process of, but I don't see a lot of evidence of that in the rooms - other than the outdoor carpet having been removed. The bedspreads are REALLY old and outdated, the indoor carpet is a little scary (bring your flip flops!), and the worst part of the whole experience is the poor housekeeping.

This place needs a complete overhaul on their housekeeping department. There are several families here that all report various problems with their rooms - which all stem from poor housekeeping. Get it together, train your staff, check behind them, and when the customer calls to let you know you need towels - send them right away. Do not waste your money.

AND IT IS EXTREMELY LOUD... perfect for Spring Breakers who don't care about any of the above. Families - stay away.

Room Tip: Request first floor so you do not have to deal with scary elevators!
