“Pit Stop in NMB”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2009

Loved it … Loved it … wish we could of stayed longer. We were heading to Charleston, SC the next day. Here is some more info about the hotel visit on June 3, 2009. My husband and I where on our road trip from Ohio to W VA, VA, NC, SC, TN, KY and back home to Ohio in one week. First stop Lexington, VA, next was Outer Banks, NC for two days, after that we were heading to South Carolina, but where to go. We had planned on staying just outside of North Myrtle Beach (less pricey hotels), but desired we could make it to the beach around 4:30 pm, so we headed for the ocean. I really wanted to go to the ocean after staying in Outer Banks to see some more beaches and look for more shells. We stopped at the Welcome Center on our way in and picked up a coupon book. The first one I called was Ocean Drive Beach & Golf Resort and the price for an ocean view was just in our budget. We were wonderfully surprised by the size and look of the hotel. The ladies at the desk were wonderful and booked us in the nicest room on the 12th floor. We felt like we where first class vacationers, after what we stayed in at Outer Bank’s (no ocean view in our budget). Loved everything about the hotel, pool, lazy river, beach, lobby and of course the room, what a view. We had a pillow top king size bed, my husband needed a good night sleep after driving so much and he loved the bed, he said he had the best night sleep. We had a room with a kitchen area first time I ever stayed in a hotel with this set up. We wished all the hotels on the rest of the trip would be like this one. I got up early to catch the sun raise and to search for more shells. I didn’t want to leave the beach , but we had reservations in Charleston, SC, so we packed up and started on the road. I have always wanted to come down here but my husband thought it would be too touristy, but he was wrong, it was just right. I attached some photos on the review.

Took a detour on our way hoem fron North Carolina to Texas to see Myrtle Beach on a whim. Stopped at the visitors center on 17 as we crossed into SC. This was one of the hotels in their books with special offers and they visitor center called ahead and got us a room. We got an amazing deal of $55 a night through the visitor center. The hotel staff was very helpful at check in and recommended a place for dinner since there is not a restraunt on site other than for breakfast. Room was nice and had great view of ocean and pool/lazy river below. Had a few minor issues - hot tub packed with young people (who we later found out weren't even staying there), indoor hot tub had no heat, my sone lost a bunch of money in the arcade to broken machines, wi-fi wasn't working while we were there. Overall we enjoyed the hotel and would consider it again if we returned to Myrtle Beach.

A group of seven of us stayed the week of Oct. 11th. We had a wonderful time. The only thing that I can complain about was that when we booked the rooms (4 of them), we requested that we be close to each other. That was not the case. We were on 4 different floors. I guess when the college group from Virginia booked their rooms, they got first priority. In any event, we had a great time and we will return here again as a group in the near future.

  • Liked — the convenience of the night clubs right there without having to drive. Very clean.
  • Disliked — Asking for rooms close to each other when making reservation by phone and not getting them.

My husand and I celebrated our 12th anniversary on September 7, 2008 by visiting North Myrtle Beach and listening to our favorite beach music band, Jim Quick and Coastline Band, at Hotos. We chose to stay at Ocean Drive Beach and Golf Resort because it was convenient to that, plus it was nextdoor to Fat Harolds where we also enjoyed beach music and dancing. The hotel was beautiful, great oceanfront room, had pool and hottub, with lazy river. We enoyed the breakfast buffet at the cafe. Food was delicious, vast choices, and was oceanfront seating if you chose. I just wished we would have had more time to stay and enjoy everything there. Will definitely go back and hopefully it will be soon. You will not go wrong by choosing this hotel to spend your vacation in. Love Myrtle Beach and the Ocean Drive Hotel!!!! Can't wait to go back!!!!!!

This place is neither fantastic nor terrible. Its fine, lovely views of the ocean, pool, spa, pool bar. People who run it are really nice. Rooms are a little out of date, but comfortable.

If your coming from the airport, then you may want to think of a hotel nearer as the taxi fare was $55.

A couple of very good places to eat round the corner, excellent sea food. Breakfast just up the road (5 mins walk).

I enjoyed my stay here.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and had the room with the side view of the ocean. Here are our pros and cons:

Pros--
*First of all if you are not extremely picky, go with the side view of the ocean. Let me put it this way, you can see the waves crashing while lying in bed. Is it a dead on view? No. But it is still a great deal on oceanside.
*The service was great. Everything we brought to the attention of staff was solved within minutes.
*The pools, hot tubs, and lazy river were fun and impressive.
*It's close enough to most fun things to drive to but far enough out that its not noisy.
*The mini fridge and safe were nice additions.

Cons--
*The room is small. Shockingly small. Don't expect a couch or office table.
*No flat screen tv (men, I'm talking to you here)
*There was a resort fee we were surprised to learn of the day of check-in. It was only $5/day, but hey, I hate surprise fees.
*And finally, the biggest con ever:
the bed!
*The bed!
*The bed! It was hard as a rock. We both had sore backs every day thanks to that bed. It was very uncomfortable.

  • Liked — The location, quality, and price
  • Disliked — The bed

We picked this hotel after reading other travelers reviews. The hotel was very clean and nice. We had the ocean view king room which was very small, little walking space between the door, bed and walls, and the bed was hard but had a good side view of the ocean, a mini fridge, microwave and dishes which were nice. Within walking distance of the hotel was a great breakfast place called the Golden Griddle which we really enjoyed. Food and service were great. Some disappointments were Hot Stacks pancake house and Prestons buffet (which was horrible and extremely overpriced). Alligator Adventure was fun and entertaining, Ripleys aquarium is overrated.
