North Beach Plantation
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 14 June 2013

Before we booked I studied the reviews of North Beach Plantation and most were spot on, we had a 3 bedroom condo and it was excellent:

The Good: unbeatable location for the family wanting a short walk to the beach, you can rent beach seats and umbrellas if needed which are set up for you in the morning, pools are amazing and all kid friendly (except the pool bar adult only pool), Indigo Tower is closer to beach and also has views of Myrtle we stayed in room 404 which was perfect for watching the kids in the pool at night, kids daily activities thru staff, no pool deeper than 4 feet, ample pool seating (head down at 9am when pool opens and secure your seats even though they tell you not to as all vacationers do this) pool towels supplied, grab extra keys when you check in, shuttle service through out resort so park your car and forget it, pool hours 9am till 11pm, don't rent cabana waste of $, spa is awesome and the Steak House 21 is great and serves sushi, Bi Lo is across the street and has evey thing you need for your stay for groceries and has resnable prices, ample parking, in room towel and trash service is great, again room was amazing and felt like home with all upscale appliances and bedding.

The Ugly: pool bar food and drinks over priced, flavorless cocktails: limited menu with a cheese burger costing $9 and a large fries setting you back $6, check in can be long depending on what time you arrive we requested a 3pm check in and they accommodated us so try and get in before 4 pm, the pool deck gets very hot so have flip flops handy at all times, saving pool seats with towels is a joke and the only way to beat this is to join in and save your seats or sit on the ground, the pool is smoker friendly.

Room Tip: We had 3 kids 11, 10 and 3 1/2 and got room 404 in the Indigo Tower which was a perfect height up an...

You call two different representatives within ten minutes and the prices have changed. The best thing to do is to find a lower price on another site and negotiate with the Managers. Why does this happen you might ask and why is it fair. It's not fair and there should be some regulations and restrictions on this type price goughing. My friends and I stayed in the same type unit with the exact same ammenities and booked within ten minutes of each other and we all receieved different rates. When I confronted management they basically did not investigate nor did they care advising that their rates fluctuate like airline tickets. That was not the answer I wanted to hear therefore I am taking this further as there has got be an agency that will take these type complaints and assure that customers are not cheated based on perhaps what we might take as far as ....................

Stayed at North Beach Plantation the week of June 1-8, 2013. Stayed in the Indigo Tower, room 1607. Loved the interior hallways and that all room face the ocean. One bonus of the Indigo Tower is that not only do you get an ocean view, but you also get to view the lights of downtown Myrtle Beach at night, Really liked the views.

The unit was nice with upgraded furnishings; however, the cleaning needs to be improved. The drapes and valances were completely disgusting and filled with dust balls. The side tables had not been cleaned at all. Most of the tables have a glass topper that looks like it had never been removed to clean the underneath side of the glass and the wood top of the table. The couches and chairs were worn out and needed to be replaced. The decorative pillows have strings hanging off of them in both the front room and bedrooms that need to be replaced. The bedspreads need to be replaced and the sheets in the master bedroom didn't fit the bed and came undone every single night. Two things that really were needed in this unit was a step ladder and oven mits.

The pools and whirlpools were nice and we used all of them. It is sortof strange that the pool opens at 9am and you can't go in earlier than that. The lighter colored lounge chairs are showing their age and need to be replaced. There are showers by the pools to wash off after coming in from the beach and the shower by the one with stairs smelled like sewage. The walkways are very narrow and the gates throught the complex are too difficult to open - both the mechanism to open the gate as well as how tight the springs on the gate are. They are kindof dangerous.

The biggest reason that I have rated this property a 3 out of 5 is due to the hideous amount of smoking. This is a family resort, yet, there is no designated smoking area at the pools. Everyplace has non-smoking nowadays, so for this resort to cost so much money yet not have a small designated smoking area is beyond me and will be the reason I will not return. Smoking is also allowed on the balconies. Do you know how horrible it is to try to enjoy a morning cup of coffee on you balcony with the beautiful view that you paid a lot for only to be smoked out of the experience? Get with it North Beach Plantation and fix this situation immediately.

The beach in front of the property is nice, there are chairs and umbrellas for rent and the property sits next to the swale which provided hours of entertainment for us looking for sea creatures, etc. North Beach Plantation should pick up trash and cigarette butts on the beach continuously.

We used the fitness center and found it to be very nice and well equipped. They also have a shower room which was great.

Anything larger than a compact car is going to have a fun time parking. The spaces are a bit tight. It is normal to have people guiding each other into and out of parking spaces.

The employees at this facility were all very nice. The housekeepers came within a few minutes of calling for a refresh of towels. Freddie in guest services is everywhere and is always pleasant and fun to talk to.

So, we had a good time and all but I'm not sure that we will return due to the rampant smoking and the real need for an improvement in the housekeeping and replacement of worn out furnishings. It was a lot of money to spend to have to deal with these concerns.

Room Tip: Almost every room will overlook the pool and the ocean, unless you are on the very end; however, the...

This property is very well designed, inside and out. With everything oceanfront, large balconies, upscale interiors, we thought it was great. The location is nice also because it is on the southern end of North Myrtle, which has the advantage of being one of the last condos before a stretch of houses, making the beach perhaps a bit less crowded. Also, Barefoot Landing is right across the highway, so there is shopping (mostly beachy souvenir shops) and lots of restaurants very nearby. (We couldn't figure out why there isn't a crosswalk there because it would be walkable but not safe without a crosswalk.) All in all, we really liked it and would go back and would recommend it to others. Now for the glitches, most of which I think they will work out in time, but the property is very new. Check in on a busy day was tricky -- we arrived early and they said we were welcome to use the property and they could bring us our room key when our room was ready. They called to say our room was ready right before the 4 pm check in time, but we ended up standing around the circle area for more than 45 minutes waiting for the shuttle to bring our key -- and there were a number of families doing the same. Would have been better if they had just said come get your key. Also, the keys at one point just didn't work and we were locked out and had to call to get new ones; a staff member let us in and said it happens all the time -- seems like they should warn people and have a system for when it happens. As for the condo, it was, as I said, upscale, but house cleaning less than great -- not terrible, but needs improvement. It was dusty, as though no one had used it recently (curious that it wasn't ready before 4), counters and balcony table had some crumbs, some couch cushions were turned zipper side out, and a few other things like that. The kitchen furnishings had everything we needed except coffee filters which is no fun to discover when you wake up! My biggest complaint about the property is that they allow smoking at and even in the pool--there were lots of smokers in the pool swim up bar -- a huge negative for nonsmokers like us. The pool grounds are very nice other than that-- well designed and well maintained.

We stayed at North Beach Plantation for a week (May 19-25, 2013). We have stayed in many places in Myrtle Beach, but this is by far the best. Everything was great. We stayed in the Jasmine towers and our accommodations were wonderful. We had a 4 bedroom oceanfront condo which was amazing. Every room was very clean. The staff were friendly, and the location was great. The resort is close to a lot of food and shopping. There was nothing negative about our experience. This is a great place for couples, families, or a group of friends. This is the only place we will look to stay for our yearly trip to Myrtle Beach from now on! If you are trying to figure out if this is really as good as it looks/ sounds....Yes, it really is!

We stayed at the resort towers for 4 days from late May to early June. We arrived early and the hotel was able to accommodate us. It was a slow time of year, so I would not expect to get in early otherwise. The resort is off of the main road starting behind the McDonalds with a neighborhood of townhouses and then the two towers of condos. From the main road to the towers is about a half mile of townhomes that are a part of the resort. The check-in desk, 21 Main Steak House, and spa are in the middle of the neighborhood, about a quarter mile from the towers. Once at the towers, you can park in the small lot near the entrance or in the parking deck, which is also nearby. There are plenty of luggage carts located in the loading area. When you checkout, you can call zero on the phone and not have to go to the check-in desk if you do not need a receipt. If you need a receipt, you have to go to the desk on the way out.

The room was very nice, clean, and spacious. The balcony was also large, with a table, chairs, and loungers. The kitchen appliances were very nice, as well as the washer and dryer. Even the dishes were nice. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were large. We were told we could call the main office for more toilet paper and paper towels. While they do not clean your room until you leave, they will replace your towels and take out your kitchen trash daily. You have to leave your dirty towels on the bathroom floors to get them replaced. You have to collect your trash and put it in the kitchen to get it picked up. The towels and trash service is automatic if you leave the tag off your door. Put the tag out and they leave you alone. I wish we had taken some Tupperware, baggies, etc. for leftover foods, even though we ate out a lot. On the 3rd floor in the middle of the towers is a little café that has a buffet breakfast for $10 an adult and $6 a kid. They also have a Starbucks station with a few choices, where you can get a drink without getting the buffet. There were several grocery stores nearby. We went to the Super Bi-Lo about two miles away, though Google maps said it was 3.3 miles away.

The pools were very fun, but beware the kiddy pools and the oval pool next to the kiddy pools were freezing. I do not think they will be cold in heat of the summer, but they were freezing June 1st. We have a 2.5 and 5 year old and would have liked to use those pools, but could not. However, the other pools were warm and very accommodating. We really enjoyed them. Most have 3, 3.5, and 4 foot depths. One had a 5 foot depth. They allowed many pool toys, like a noodle, kick board, and beach\pool balls. But they did stop some people from throwing a large nurf football. There is a pool side café that serves good size portions of cheeseburgers, hamburgers, chicken tenders, hotdogs, pizza, etc. It’s expensive, but what do you expect? We did not see any waiters on Wednesday, but they showed up on Thursday and beyond. I imagine there will always be waiters around the pool area during the prime season. You can get non-alcoholic drinks from the café and alcoholic drinks from the bar or waiter. The pool side bar has water access and walk-up access. There were weekend activities for kids starting June 1st. You should bring sandals for the pool deck and beach sand. The brown part of the pool deck gets extremely hot in the afternoon, as does the beach sand.

The beach was beautiful. It was wide and flat during low tide and much narrower during high tide. We rented a big umbrella and two chairs for $25 a day. You can rent them for multiple days and they are yours for the day, whether you are there or not. They also rented just the umbrella, just the chairs, extra chairs, etc.
Barefoot Landing is about ¾ mile from the towers and was very fun. It was too far to walk with small kids from the towers and across a busy street, though directly across from the resort. Barefoot Landing has plenty of shopping, eating, and drinking. There were activities for kids, like a climbing wall, merry-go-round, mechanical bull riding, bungee trampoline jumping, and even live tigers. We also enjoyed the hall of mirrors, which was really fun. They even had some feeding stations overlooking the water for turtles and fish and about 30 turtles and a dozen huge fish showed up.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at North Beach Plantation. It was great for both kids and parents. With Barefoot Landing nearby, there was plenty to do.

I read many reviews about this property and they were all pretty accurate. We stayed in the Jasmine Tower (a must- straight view of the ocean)in room 1611. This was a 1 bedroom,1 bath unit. It was very tastefully decorated and had all the amenities anyone could ask for. Upon checking in we were a little early and the front desk did everything that could do to get us in a tad earlier. We decided to go to the grocery store and then come back and at that point checked in right away. Once we got to the towers the staff was right there to help unload the car and help you up to the room.
There were only a couple of negatives (small stuff) when we had booked our vacation they had you could rent a Cabana for 20.00 and if you did 3 or more days it went down to 18.00. However the lady who took our reservations could not do it and you had to call the hotel directly. When I did they informed me it was 75.00 per day. so we opted to do 1 day. It was truly a waste of money. All you got was a comfy chair and a ceiling fan.We were the only ones who had rented one. If they lowered the price more people would do it. The other thing was the staff by the pool was not very knowledgeable. when asked what time the pool bar pended they had no idea. I know it is the beginning of the season but....
We will be going back many more times as long as it stays to the level that it is.
