“Great Room, Great Location, Mediocre Service”
Reviewed 4 July 2011

My family (me, hubby, teenage son + friend) stayed at the Prince in early July. Our room was beautiful and pretty spacious; the air conditioning worked beautifully. We liked that they had a wine fridge in the room. The room was clean and the furnishings were lovely.

We stayed in Tower 1 (on the beach) and the pool complex was a little disappointing. The hot tubs are extremely small and get filled up quickly. The main pool is really small and can get filled up quickly at times during the day. The complex was also not kept clean; lots of paper cups, napkins and a few beer cans were scattered throughout. Also, the front desk gives out pool tags for each guest, but no one checked them. Because the pool complex sits directly on the Cherry Grove Pier, I have a feeling that a number of people who were NOT staying at the hotel also used the pool complex. The hotel needs to do a MUCH better job of checking these tags and keeping the complex clean.

We ventured up to the pool complex on Tower 2, but were told from many guests that this was the favorite hangout of all of the teenagers. The view from up there was gorgeous, but it was a bit more raucous than the complex for Tower 1.

The "fitness facilities" are a joke. There is a 10 x 10 room that has a few dumbells in it, and another 10 x 10 room that has less than a handful of cardio equipment. Save yourself the trip and just go for a walk on the beach.

The breakfast buffet was pretty good, though food was pretty slow to come out. The views from the 3500 restaurant were wonderful. Food at the pier restaurant (which I am assuming is part of the hotel since all of the employees wore Prince t-shirts) was so-so. It was decent enough for a beach snack, though service was HORRIBLE and the food was ridiculously slow coming out. One of the servers spilled beer down my back while she was cleaning another table (let's call her "L") and didn't have the respect or maturity to apologize. After speaking with the manager we got one of our entrees for free. Prices here were also ludicrous - better to cook something in the room or have something delivered.

The best part of the resort was being able to walk out on the pier. Our teenage son and his friend enjoyed fishing off of the pier and the views from the end were breaktaking. Only $1.50 to walk out on the pier and only $6.00 to fish off of it since my son brought his own rod.

Housekeeping never did show up during our trip so we had to continually call to get fresh towels and toilet paper. Tech support also never showed up to fix our ceiling fan, and when we had trouble getting into our room Tech support was incredibly rude and made it seem like we were bothering him for his help. If Housekeeping, Tech support and the Front Desk Staff could all be retrained to actually be nice and fulfill their responsibilities then the hotel would be great. If location is what you're after - enjoy, if you also expect great service - keep looking.

Room Tip: Book Tower 1

Our trip to Prince Resort was extremely pleasant. The room was spotless. However, we had friends who rented at Prince through a realty agency in Cherry Grove and their experience wasn't as pleasing. We discovered that if you rent through the Resort itself, the cleaning staff does an impeccable job of cleaning. The cleaning staff is "on site" and takes pride in their work. However, the realty agency has its own cleaning staff and does not do nearly the job as the staff at the Prince Resort does. For example, the Resort staff changes ALL linens after each visitor--INCLUDING the bedspread.
Additionally, when you make your reservation through the Resort, you can request amenities like flat screen TV.
Other tips: The views at the Tower on the second row are awesome and unobstructed. That Tower also has a better pool and the parking is in that Tower also. We like that tower better--it is just a few steps away from the beach with the same views.
Recommendation: Stick with reserving your room through the Resort itself and not an outside realty agent which may have less than desirable cleaning standards.

I would post all of our pictures, but they would be the same as the ones that are available. These was a really nice hotel, and an excellent price. Our room was very comfortable and it felt like home. I didn't want to leave. The only thing I did not like was the pool area in the main building, in which we stayed. I would have been nice if both pools were as nice as the one in the second building. Other than that, everything was perfect. We will definitely return for our next trip.

We had been to the Prince Resort before and decided to stay there again, since it is a great hotel. We stayed at a 2 Bedroom room, which was clean, large and very comfortable. The full kitchen is great, so you don't have to eat out every meal. The staff at the Check-in desk and the Housekeeping staff was very nice and helpful.
The only negative thing is the pool. If you are planning on spending a lot of time at the pool, this Hotel might not be for you.
The Hotel is divided into 2 towers. One right at the beach, the other on the other side of the street, above the parking garage. The one by the beach has the (very small) pool, the one on the other side of the street (extremely short walk to beach) has the lazy river on the 9th floor and a couple of Jacuzzis.
For the price, location and room amenities, I would recommend this hotel anytime. If you love to spend time at the hotel, as in pool, restaurant or bar - this one might not be for you.

Check-in was painless. Took maybe 10 minutes. The room smelled so fresh and it was so clean when we arrived. Maid service was great!! I loved having a dishwasher and washer/dryer in the room. I have never stayed at a hotel with that in my room so that was fantastic. Didn't get a chance to eat at the hotel restaurant but we did go to the happy hour at the pier restaurant our first night. The nachos were great and for $4.00 you got a ton! My daughter and husband had the calamari. Good too. Happy hour is the way to go for afternoon snacks at the pier. Pools and lazy river were good. I just wish the pool on the second tower was heated. I am sure that as the summer goes on it does warm up but during the second week of June it was freezing but that is honestly my only complaint and it is not a biggie. The price was excellent too. Thanks Prince for a great relaxing vacation.

A great stay for the price. Clean, quiet, and tower 1 is right on the coast. Parking a bit of a challenge if you bring a car no problem. Truck or suv prepare for a little challenge in the parking garage

We stayed here via Elliott Realty. When we initially arrived you couldn't find a parking spot close to the elevators to take a weeks worth of belongings to your room. After a 30 minute wait to find a parking spot, we then had to wait on a luggage cart, then after that wait we then had to wait for the elevator. It took a good hour just to get to your room. Our room was awful. There was blood on the wall in the bedroom, pasta sauce on the cabinets, and what appeared to be shampoo in the bath tub. Another downfall was the parking was across the street and the first two levels of the parking building was for visitors to the Cherry Grove Pier and for the restaurant located in the resort.
The staff was very friendly however. I would not recommend this resort or Elliott Realty.

Thank you so much for your review of your stay with us. We strive to give the best that the Grand Strand has to offer in accommodations and we appreciate your business. It is extremely important that we be made aware of any complaints during your stay so that we may take action while you are here. Check in days are typically quite hectic at all properties along the beach with all the guests trying to get into the parking garage and their units at the same time. We understand that it can be frustrating to have to wait your turn for a luggage cart or the elevator when all you want to do is start your vacation and get to the beach or pool. We sincerely hope that you were able to enjoy the rest of your vacation and take in all the great activities and beautiful scenery the area has to offer. Just a friendly remider that some of our properties do offer Sunday check in's which are typically a little less hectic and we also have condos in smaller buildings which by design are going to have less people. We would be glad to help you find a condo that works for your family's needs.

It is because of our loyal guests that Elliott Beach Rentals has been the front runner in vacation rentals in the Myrtle Beach area for over 50 years.

We sincerely thank you again. It was our pleasure to have you as our guest and we hope to serve you and your family again
