We plan to go back to this park again. It was one of the most beautiful and peaceful parks (along the I-95) that we have come across in a long time.

Stayed in the pier cabins and it was wonderful. The cabin was a little dated, but very clean. It comes with two bedrooms and a futon that slept six. There is one shared bathroom. There is a kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, and refrigerator, but limited utensils. Being on the pier we had to grill on the shore by the parking lot. It was a little walk, but not too bad. There are boat slips for each cabin if you bring your boat. There is decent fishing right off the pier. There are walking and biking trails, and the park staff is helpful and friendly. Lots of wildlife to see from squirrels, racoons, deer, ducks, snakes, turtles, and even alligators. While we were staying here we heard on the news that the state was going to do a substantial upgrade to the park infrastructure. Can't wait to come back!

We stayed in a cabin on the lake (water below, behind and in front), clean cabin, great view of the lake and wildlife, great value, great park staff. Definitely going back...

This State park in South Carolina (right off of I95) not only has camping, and great fishing on the 110,000 acre lake Marion, but 30 Cabins (rondettes) for rent. 20 of the cabins are in the woods with lake access, and 10 are on a pier in the lake itself. The cabins are excellently appointed (kitchen with big table, living room, two bedrooms with a connecting bathroom) with the shape giving them a unique and open feeling. The ones on the pier open right onto the lake, you can literally cast a fishing rod from your front door. The cabins have minimum stays for reservations, but I have never been turned away as a "walk-in" and have visited about a dozen times now. Lots to do in the area as well.

First the good: nice scenery, pretty cypress growing in water, easy access to small towns if you need something.... BUT: Bathrooms rather old and nasty with no soap, and apparently not cleaned often. The campground road loops are atrocious with pot holes for anyone riding through and partic. dragging trailers. Disappointed Rangers did not make a presence as we had three 40 something yr old drunks across from us running a chain saw for two nights and the site next to us had 12 people and 6 tents.... there are rules about only two tents and X amt of adults, etc. - but no one seems to care, and I guess that is the problem with the entire park: No one seems to care. The trails were not maintained. You walk maybe a half mile to find so much blow downs you can't go any farther, or we tried another loop to find two other groups as confused as we were not knowing where to go, so we all turned around to go out to the road again. Maps not to scale so don't trust what the park hands out. I was told since one of the major storms no trail work was done. It's an experience, but a park I would not recommend.
