Four of us from Scotland, Belgium, and USA booked Thorntree so we could spend time with a friend who lives nearby in Kippen -- and it was just perfect for long talks by the fire, walks along the lanes, gazing at the hills and stars, and stepping away altogether from bustle of ordinary life. I also had time for excursions to Callendar, Lake of Menteith, and Falkirk to round out my visit.
Almost all the kitchen equipment you might need is already there -- and Carol and Mark are right next door if you find any essential missing. They can also buy groceries and have them in the cottage for your arrival; Tesco will also deliver if you don't want to spend your holiday time shopping.
But even with the owners on-site, it's very private, with its own lawn and back entrance.
If you're looking for a cosy cottage place with some modern essentials in the Scottish countryside - this is it!!!
Loved Thorntree - great home away from home. Kitchen/dining/living space all open plan making a lovely ground floor. 3 spacious bedrooms upstairs, 1 en suite meant both kids got their own room.
Great location for Stirling, Loch Lomond & Glasgow. Plenty of leaflets on the upstairs table to look through so you won't be stuck for things to do!
The owners live next door but you wouldn't know as it's so quiet & the cottage has it's own patio entrance, garden & parking spaces round the back. Which is also where you benefit from the fab views! We stayed throughout a tail end of a hurricane and it was still fine & cosy! Extra luxury of a gas fire in the living room too. High chair & cot also provided. Would definitely recommend and hope to come back next year!
Peace and quiet. Stunning views. Beautifully comfortable cottage. What more could you ask for?
Accessibility? It's within easy reach of Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh.
A peaceful and comfortable setting to stay while visiting all the castles, cathedrals, museums, monuments, loch, parks and priories between and around Glasgow and Edinburgh. Many places to eat and shop within a short drive. A great place to come "home" to after a day of sightseeing in the hustle and bustle of nearby cities. Location is perfect for day trips across central Scotland. Will definitely return.
This lovely converted barn is a great place to stay. Almost exactly halfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh it makes a great home base. You can experience the fantastic countryside, stunning vistas and energetic hiking or biking, yet in an hour be in the bustle of the city. Best of both worlds! The accommodations themselves are cosy and comfortable. We were a group of 5 adults and had ample space. Carol and Mark are very friendly hosts and generous with great suggestions for the locale. Definately recommended.
Thorntree Barn was our 'home away from home': welcoming and surprisingly warm and cosy for a 3 bedroom house, fully equipped and modern, we also enjoyed several outstanding sunsets and the idyllic surroundings. Ideal for visiting the Lowlands and Midlands.
