“Amafu: honeymoon destination like no other!!”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

We spent our honeymoon at Amafu Forest Lodge, and it was spectacular!
We got to experience monkeys on the roof and the sounds of the wild at night (lions roaring and hyenas from the neighboring Moholoholo Rehab Centre), and then of course the seclusion and quietness of the Cupi Cottage in the forest.
The owners are lovely people, and they truly made our stay one for the books - they were always friendly, accomodating and full of life and laughs. Our honeymoon would not have been the same without them.
Everything, from breakfast to our packed picnic lunches to the three course dinners were sublime!
We will be back! Thanks to all at Amafu :)

My wife and I were driving in Kampersrus area looking for a restaurant to have dinner. We noticed the Forest Café boards and decided to go have dinner there. When arriving there we were graciously welcomed by the owner. Dinner is usually served from seven, but we were there already at 16:20. The owner made special exception for us to have dinner earlier.

This is a very friendly place, the view is really spectacular and the food is great.

The Amafu Forest Lodge was recommended to me by a friend and I am glad that it was. I spent 4 nights here and had a great time with the owners, who are very friendly and helpful. The lodge was very nice and, even though I didn't stay in them, they have these really cool rooms that are actually tents which are situated high up the hill so you have an amazing view to wake up to. They aren't up on the website but I would check them out!

My favorite part about the lodge was the location. The lodge is at the base of the Mariepskop mountains and is right near the Moholoholo Rehabilitation Center, which was one of the highlights of the trip. On one of the days we were driven up to the top of the mountain and the view was absolutely amazing, plus we got to enter the Air Force base which is a whole other story. Kruger Park, the Blyde River Canyon (third largest in the world) and a number of other reserves with great attractions are also very close and easy to get to. Oh yeah... they also had a great infinity pool to soak in during the hot afternoon hours while drinking Savanna's. All in all a great experience and I would definitely go back (especially to rent the tent rooms). Thanks a bunch Amafu!!

Room Tip: Ask about the tent rooms, the views are amazing and it is a cool experience that I haven't seen...

Wonderful lodge! I traveled from San Francisco to visit SA for a month and my stay at the Amafu Lodge was far and away the highlight. The villas are huge and well appointed with proper spacing and privacy between them. Ours came with its own picnic bench and BBQ, which we made full use of. Anne and all of the other staff that we encountered were extremely helpful setting up activities and answering questions.
The location is excellent! On a small hill, just outside Hoedspruit and near the animal rehabilitation center. I went to sleep hearing the calls of the center's animals off in the distance - awesome!
Finally, the Amafu's infinity pool is a real gem - and never very crowded. We used it every day!
Overall, I loved my stay here and look forward to coming back again.

We had booked at the lodge, but there was a double booking so we were checked into a cottage off the lodge which had not been cleaned. The owners were very apologetic and offered us a free night to use at a later stage. The outdoor shower had no hot water so we had to bath. The braai was broken but we managed to fix it. A poor experience, but we still had a good evening and the beds were comfy.

Room Tip: Stay in a cottage on the lodge and perhaps call ahead to ensure they have not messed up your booking...
