Beautiful grounds. Free hot tea and iced tea. A very informative tour. First there is a self-guided video tour. You can also take a trolley tour of the grounds. Steven was our guide, very entertaining and knowledgeable. The trolley tour which is $10 a person, I did find a little high since most of what you learn is covered in the video factory tour. I do recommend going as this is the only tea plantation in North America.

This was one of the most interesting and informative tours that I've taken. The Plantation visit is certainly worth the half hour ride from Charleston. We have visited the city many times and were not aware of this unique part of it. The welcome we received at the Plantation was "Southern Hospitality" at it's finest. Complimentary iced and hot teas were well received after the ride out. The factory tour and the trolley ride were beautifully done. The most unique thing, in my perspective was the amount of tea produced with a very small labor force. The fact that they use no pesticides nor insecticides in the growing process is amazing. The "Green Giant" harvester was impressive. On top of everything else, their tea is great!

The Charleston Tea Plantation located on Wadmalaw Island is the only tea plantations located in North America. Perfect tea growing weather, results in an excellent American tea. The Plantation offers a free video factory tour and a $10.00 ride through their fields of thousands of tea plants on a plantation trolley. The plantation also has a Tea Shoppe to taste and purchase "American Classic Tea" and other items worth browsing through.

“Very interesting tour...”

This is the only commercial tea plantation in the U.S. We took the Trolly Tour and it was very informative to see how the tea plants were grown and maintained and how the actual tea leaves were harvested. The tour through the plant showed the processing procedure and gave a greater appreciation of the finished product. In the gift shop, we had complimentary tastings of the 100% First Flush Tea which is the first harvested tea of the season. It was delicious! We purchased a tin of it to enjoy once we returned home. We were glad that we had made the trip to Wadmalaw Island.

There is a charge for the trolley tour but the rest is free.

“Great place to see how tea is grown!!”
Reviewed 29 September 2012 via mobile

The people here are very friendly! For a small fee you can take a trolley ride around the acres and acres of tea plants, watch a self guided tour of tea processing and drink tea on the rocking chairs outside the gift shop. Nice and relaxing way to add to your vacation or just another day in a beautiful area.
