Visit was part of a tour, but it is the only tea plantation in the US,,,who knew? Very interesting tour of the grounds and video of how this tea is processed. Gift shop was not only tea but other items related and some GREAT hand crème. Must see if you are in the area. I am glad that I did not miss this.

“A must stop for all tea lovers (coffee drinkers, too!)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2013

As a tea drinker, the Charleston Tea Plantation (America's only tea garden) was a very informative tour and is about 30 minutes from Charleston. My husband, the coffee drinker, also loved the tour. I never gave it much thought before as to how tea was grown and processed. After coming away from this tour I know more about tea then I ever thought about. They offer a factory tour that is complimentary and a trolly tour for $10. I recommend the trolly tour as it offers the horticultural aspect of tea. It's amazing how the Green Giant is used to harvest the tea. The Green giant is a large harvesting machine and I was told the Green Giant can do the work of 500 people. They also have a nice gift shop where you can sample hot and ice tea for free. It helped me to decide on what tea to purchase. (There are no sales tactics making you to buy their tea, but I have to tell you that it is really good tea.)

“Unique experience for North America”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2013

Being the only tea plantation in North America, seeing the tea plants, processing and growing methods, and hearing about its impact on Charleston was interesting. The interior tour of the plant (free) was really interesting. We also took the trolly tour ($10 per person). The tour was ok, but really only drives you around the plantation to the greenhouse. Although the information was interesting, the price seemed a bit steep since there wasn't much to see on the tour that couldn't be seen from walking around the grounds on your own.

Overall, the plantation is certainly worth the stop. And be sure to check out their shop... tea there is less expensive than in town, and the additional tea accessories they have are reasonably priced and they have a great selection.

“The Charleston Tea Plantation is a must to see and experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 October 2013 via mobile

I would recommend the Tea Plantation for a unique experience! Seeing the operation and touring the grounds was very interesting. The gift shop has all kinds of different things from tea (obviously) to tea hand cream and everything inbetween! The friendly staff made the trip very enjoyable!

“Historically Lowcountry - Tea at it's best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2013

A absolutely delightful time taking a tour of the Bigelow Tea Plantation in historic Wadmalaw Island Lowcountry. Got to see tea at it's best, grown, harvested, aged, and seeped in water. The entire process was explained, starting with the plant, and the growing process. Wonderful tea hedges, seen from the open sided tour bus. Afterwards we toured the inside of the plant, getting to see the processing of the plants. Very interesting.
