I arranged for 40 people from our church to spend the day at Bonnie Doone. It was a daytrip from Charleston, SC. WE had lunch in the mansion.(The meals never exceed $10). The price includes beverage and dessert.
After lunch, we toured the house and gardens. An old brick horse barn has been turned into a lovely chapel. There is also an outdoor worship center overlooking the Ashepoo River.
The current house was built in the early 1900's. You can spend a night for $55, and that includes breakfast....in bed, if that's what you want. Bathrooms have the original tiles. Remember the octagonal shapes?
Most bedrooms are upstairs, but there are 2 small ones downstairs for handicapped guests. There are cabins on the grounds, too. They would be fun for youth groups or camps, maybe. I think they're $5 per day.
Making arrangements required several phone calls, but the people in charge are just lovely, and patient. There was no hassle! It was a great day for us at Bonnie Doone.
