Diane & Henry were wonderful hosts, with good recommendations on where to go in Walterboro's downtown area, a short walk from the inn. They were friendly and interesting to talk to, but at the same time gave us "space" & privacy, conscious of not being overbearing. Rooms were nicer than those in most B&B's and were well furnished & decorated, without any of the pawnshop sort of decor found in some inns. Breakfast was generous and delicious: French toast, fresh fruits & bread, yogurt, juice (a carafe-full, not a tiny glass), coffee & tea - a nice variety and more than we could eat. We will definitely go back!

The Hampton House's three bedrooms, each with a luxurious private bath, are beautifully appointed, spacious, and furnished with appealing period antiques. My room had a balcony overlooking the landscaped property with pool, patio, and tennis court -- a perfect spot to drink my morning coffee, relax, or read a book. The owners, Diane and Henry, catered to my every wish, extending hospitality, charm, and lively stories of local lore. The town of Walterboro is strategically located between Charleston and Savannah, each an hour away, and within easy driving distance of the small, beautiful coastal city of Beaufort or the river town of Bluffton, famous for its oysters. But Walterboro has its own allure, beckoning visitors with a walking tour of two historic districts with 19th century homes and churches. One is able to stroll along the main street (East Washington), visit antique shops, a well-stocked bookstore with cafe, or drink a cherry coke at Hiott's Pharmacy. Perhaps the town's greatest asset is its proximity to the ACE Basin -- an area drained by the Ashepoo, Combahee, and Edisto Rivers. With hauntingly beautiful landscape, the area is a prime wildlife habitat with endless possibilities for nature walks, kayaking, and bird-watching.

Hello all - If you have the opportunity to travel through Walterboro, SC in South Carolina's low country, be sure to take time to visit the new owners & operators of The Hampton House.

Diane Forde & Henry Ruthnowski are the hosts of this stunning site.
Trememdous character to the property and rooms. Diane's interior design talents shine throughout and Diane and Henry made us feel welcomed & entertained during our stay.

I'll always fondly recall the aroma of their Zucchini & Ginger Cake baking!!

And the Doll & Doll House Museum that they've relocated from NY state and housed there on the property make the trip an event in itself. An amazing collection of rarities & antiques from around the world. Anyone interested in these collectibles should plan a visit soon!!
