This is actually a very nice monument. And it commemorates an interesting geographic fact. Good photo spot: "Here I am at the Geographic Center of the U.S."
Located at the Belle Fourche Visitors Center. Museum & Gift Shop. Also a two-story pioneer cabin you can visit.

All it really is, is a big star in the middle of the park surrounded by the 50 state flags. It was cool to say we were in the center of the United States

The monument is in a park like setting, green grass everywhere and tall trees. There is a river walk nearby and the visitor center. The old restored Buckskin Johnny Cabin is on site too, interesting to see. Nice picnic spot.

We were driving nearby and thought, "What the heck? Let's take our photo at the geographic center of the country." The monument was more elaborate than I expected and made for some good pics. The town has designed a pretty little river walk nearby, which we didn't have time to explore. There's a surprisingly good museum right next door---the Tri State Museum. Its historic log cabin (Spaulding Cabin) is especially interesting. The interpreter there told wonderful stories! Lots of surprises here made for a longer stop than we expected.

But was sad that it's not the actual center. If we'd had the time, we would have driven out the country road and climbed the barbed wire fence to stand on the actual center. But since we didn't have the extra time, this works pretty darned well. And really, if it's just 10 miles or so "off" of center, that's still pretty darned close!

Great monument and neat cabin.
