“Very nice”

Great hotel. Good value. Had a jacuzzi suite. It was very spacious and large. Really enjoyed it. Very nice indoor pool and jacuzzi as well. Used to stay across street at Hampton inn. But they don't have a jacuzzi. Only pool. And housekeeping goes home by 11. So if u weren't up by then. Your room wouldn't b cleaned. Didn't have that problem at the Fairfield. They always had hot coffee. Room was always cleaned well and quickly. No problems at all. Would recommend it when in town. Go jacks

Room Tip: I recommend the jacuzzi suite. U can't go wrong with that. Also they take aaa

This was just one stop for us on a cross-country roadtrip. The property is located right on the interstate, on the east edge of town, sharing the exit with the other top 4 rated hotels in Brookings. The Hampton Inn and Super 8 are next door, as is an Applebees restaurant, and a light industrial park mostly occupied by Daktronics. No worries: it's totally clean and safe here, if not especially scenic. I had been concerned about road noise but the hotel was surprisingly quiet inside, so apparently they have done some soundproofing. Looking just at the outside appearance of the properties the Trip Advisor rankings seem odd to me, as the Hampton Inn is the only comparable place to this one. The other hotels may score better with reviewers because they are a little cheaper. It strikes me as very expensive to pay $100/night for 3-star places in the plains and prairies, but it seems to be like that everywhere out here. In any event, this hotel is great for an overnight stay.

Room was typical Fairfield, large, nicely equipped, if kind of bland. Had a 32" flat TV with lots of HD channels, fridge, microwave and coffee maker in a console, work table, sofa, lots of room. Wifi internet access worked well. Bed was very comfy, with two types of pillows. AC worked great, nice and cold, and the fan could be set to run continuously. Again, noise was not a big problem despite prox to interstate (note I-29 was under construction and had a 45mph speed limit). Slept good. Bathroom had a long counter to spread out, a good shower, and though it wasn't luxury grade (like garnite and marble walls) it was very clean, in nice condition, and worked well. Staff is doing a great job keeping this place up.

Every Fairfield i've stayed in seems to have wood frame construction, which means light sleepers need to be on the top floor. We were on the top floor toward the end of the hall and it was great.

Breakfast had DIY waffle maker, microwave saussge biscuits, yogurt, bagels, muffins, cereal, and so forth, plus coffee and tea and juices. Very basic "freebie" breakfast but nice to have since we wanted to get on the road and head over to the Black Hills and visit the famous and offbeat tourist stops along the way in this surprisingly beautiful state.

Essentially every restaurant in Brookings is along 6th Street but it's too far to walk. Easy drive, however and you can't get lost.

Room Tip: Get the top floor, and east end of building if you're super worried about noise.

We stopped in Brookings on our way to the Black Hills. The renovation really helped with this hotel. The young man who checked in wasn't able to anwer some basic questions and wasn't too concerned about trying to find out answers. The room was nice. Our kids swam in a very small pool. It said it was 3 ft to 5 ft. It isn't 5 ft at any point. I'm guessing it is 3ft the entire pool. Breakfast was fine. Thank you.

We found ourselves on a Laura Ingalls Wilder detour, and this place is right between De Smet and Walnut Grove. Everything is basic, but basically done right. The rooms are clean and fresh, the service welcoming, and the pool fun for kids (even those who have been to better hotel pools before). We did experience some highway noise in our room. The breakfast area is on the small side and the food is the non-upgraded Fairfield stuff there is a little more than coffee and donuts, but not much).

We stayed here for only one night on our way home after a long road trip. The hotel was nice and conveniently situated right off of I-29. We checked in late so we did not use the pool, but we could see it on the way to our room. Typical small indoor pool. Rooms were clean, not overly decorated. Disappointed that there was no fridge - but there was a microwave. If you plan to take advantage of the free breakfast, go early. We went down around 8:30 and there was nothing left and by that I mean, not enough batter to make one waffle, only one apple, and about 3 random bagels/muffins. Eventually saw a staff person cleaning up the area but she advised that everything was pretty much gone for the day. The free Wi-Fi is a plus. We did inquire of the desk clerk as to any local attractions - we were open to anything and she was of absolutely no help at all - almost as if she didn't live in the area. Nice if you are passing through town.

Dear Valued Guest,

I would like to thank you for choosing to stay with us at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Brookings on your way home from your long trip. I assure you that the breakfast attendants do try their best to keep the breakfast buffet well stocked in order to satisfy every guest. We are excited for the upgrade to our breakfast buffet to include hot items such as eggs, sausage, bacon, etc.
Brookings does offers a variety of local attractions for everyone including the South Dakota Children's Museum, Art Museum, Agricultural Museum as well as the beautiful McCrory Gardens, to name a few.

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback with us and have a great day!

This is a very convenient location to SDSU and getting to campus if that is what brings you to Brookings. Even though it is close to the highway, either the windows are more sound proofed, or it is the orientation of the building not being directly parallel to the road that makes the difference. Everything was clean, updated, comfortable and well prepared with a nice welcome at the desk when I arrived with my coworker.

However, there are a few minor quirks, for example with the lighting in the room where EVERYTHING was controlled by the central switch so when you turned things on the desk, wall, two night stand AND the corner floor lamp came on. So if you turned the lights off, that also turned off the plug in the base of the lamps for charging phones or laptops and such. It was a bit annoying to have to go around and turn off all the lamp switches so the room wasn't so bright, but still be able to use the plugs. There also was no phone at the bed despite the fact there was an outlet. It wasn't such a big deal to resort to the cell phone, but doing international calling card stuff is easier on a land line without using cell minutes. The breakfast is good, typical for Fairfield Inns, though the seating area is somewhat limited for the size of hotel and number of rooms. For some it may be unpleasantly busy at certain times of the morning.

The other caution is that around 8am, the traffic in that immediate area is a bit crazy because there are a couple of electronics manufacturing plants right behind the hotel and down the road so the cars are STREAMING in and make turning left to the road, and then turning left to get on the main highway back into Brookings a little bit of a challenge.

Overall though this seems to be a well run place and I would stay here again.

I stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Brookings, SD, overnight for business, and had a great experience. Staff was friendly and helpful, rooms looked to be practically new, breakfast items selection was very good (they had bona fide Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage, egg & cheese muffins – yum), and room was quiet. Would recommend this hotel without question.
