This place was an uncrowded gem, with new facilities, a nice kitchen with a wood burner for those chilly nights, and friendly hosts (fresh muffin at check in!). It was off season, but the internet was very fast and facilities uncrowded. That could change if the place is full, but still worth a visit just for the peaceful surroundings.

We arrived at Smiths farm straight off the ferry, and it was dark, rainy and a challenging drive. Our welcome was wonderful, and we were presented with a basket of muffins. Great facilities, and loads of animals to meet on our walk up to the waterfall. Molly the pig was my favourite. Like a fool, I left my wedding ring and watch hanging on the coat hook in the shower in the morning, and by the time I realised and went to reception, there was already a "found, watch and wedding ring" sign on the front door. Such nice people!

We initially thought of staying in Picton, but the holiday parks were all urban and ugly so we went for this one.
It's a small farm, the owners have animals that you can feed. It's green and nice, the landscape is beautiful.
Bathroom is ok, kitchen is ok.
There is a glowworm walk really nice that the owners can guide you to. The owners welcome you with banana muffins which is sooooo nice.
It's nothing like the other holiday parks, it's a very nice, more rural / nature experience. We really enjoyed it and will remember it as a great experience.

Booked here last minute (6pm driving off the ferry at Picton) and arrived at 7pm. The drive from the ferry is pretty challenging, especially in the dark so be warned. However, the warming welcome we got more than made up for it. Presented with a friendly smile and a basket of home baked banana and honey muffins we immediately felt at home. We were also given a lovely map of the land with a 1.5hr walk to a 20 metre waterfall and glow worms on the site walking through the farm's calves, sheep, lamb (Emma), Molly the pig and the goat! The hosts also gave us food to feed the animals with. What a lovely experience! We were here in April so there weren't many guests and we stayed in the powered camp site. My only concern would be the fact there is only 1 female toilet and 3 showers which there are likely to be queues for come peak season. Overall though a great camp site which I would recommend.

Warm muffins on arrival is a lovely touch and an example of the professionalism with which this site is run.
Outstandingly clean facilities and a lovely family atmosphere. Spacious rural site. There is a small shop onsite however we didn’t use that. We did buy a copy of a recipe book that raises funds for a local school and it contains very good recipes.
There is a glow worm walk across the fields and through some bush to a waterfall. The bush section has low branches and rocks across a tricky path that were passable in the daylight but made us decide not to wait for dark and the glow worms. You’d need very powerful torches to avoid the risk of tripping or bashing into something on the way back 

Unfortunately stayed we only for one night at Smiths farm because we had booked a ticket to the ferry from Picton. We would have loved to stay for one or two more nights because it´s just so relaxing and quiet. The surroundings are beautiful and the animals are a joy for the kids. Do go to the nearest waterfall. There is no cafe and we did not see other tourist. The staff is very friendly and kids can help feeding the animals or play with them. The kitchen, bath and toilet facility are very clean. Go to Smiths Farm on your way to the North Island or take a rest after your arrival to the south. It is only 30 min. drive from Picton harbor .

We stayed at Smiths Farm Holiday park in a powered site which was an easy drive through site and nicely flat. We were greeted with delicious hot muffins which was a wonderful and welcome surprise! This is the kind of park that if you can, get there so you have time to explore as well. There are gorgeous and friendly farm animals to pat and feed, and even a waterfall to see. Unfortunately we didn't have time to do the short walk on this occasion, but from the little map they provided it looked like a great little walk.
Fantastic location, the facilities are great and clean, plenty of room in the kitchen to cook and eat. Even a bbq to use (without paying extra unlike other places we stayed at.)
Plenty for the kids to do with the animals and a playground and a trampoline too plus room to run.
And bonus, the price was far more reasonable than most of the other caravan parks that we stayed in on our three week trip driving around NZ.
We definitely recommend a stay here.
