“No Road Noise Heard Over The Roar Of The A/C”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

Cheaply done. Tried to feed breakfast in a storage room on the 2nd floor (way overcrowded and long waits) when there is a functioning restaurant onsite...tried the brekky there and everything was cold, congealed & hard...probably would not be if they fed their guests there. A/C roared like a Mac truck. They took the bathroom fans out to put in a light fixture...bad idea...had to blow dry the mirror after a shower...and some people ....well they smell bad in the WC. Overall very poor condition. The staff did try to be helpful though.

It was just another Hampton inside, but the staff were great. They were very helpful and friendly. My husband enjoyed, Terry, the valet. He would sit outside to smoke and visit with him. He had a lot of good stories to tell and recommendations of places to eat and see.

Really good location to visit all the shops and restaurants. We don't do casinos, so never stopped into that section of the hotel.

Parking was unusual - small valet lot right across the street.

Room Tip: We had a room on the creek side. It looked out on a walking trail and a running creek.

Parking lot wasn't very big but I did get a space. Check-in was easy. Staff was friendly. Our room was clean and comfortable. Love the squishy pillows!!! Room had fridge and microwave. Location was perfect. You can easily walk to the casinos and restaurants.

We recently had the unfortunate experience of almost staying at this hotel on Friday, June 27, 2014. I say almost because we did not stay -- primarily because it was a smoking room (which I had booked with a request for non-smoking room if one became available) but also because of the rudeness of the front desk person. I mentioned at check-in that I wasn't sure how this was going to go over with the family but completed the check-in nonetheless. While my husband was parking the car, I checked the room and quickly realized that there was no way we would be able to stay. The hallway leading up to the room wasn't bad so I was thinking that it could work for us but once I opened the door to the room, it was like hitting a dingy gray wall of cigarette haze and odor that permeated everything. But that wasn't the worst part of the experience. It was the unconscionable rude attitude of the front desk person that tipped the scale. Even with a severely discounted room rate (employee discount), we could not fathom staying here. She was curt and had an unjustified rude attitude. After checking the room, I informed her that we would not be staying, she curtly stuck out her hand and said in clipped, snotty tones: "Keys". "Pass." ! Not one shred of customer service. All she had to say was "sorry it didn't work out." But instead I got "maybe you should pay more attention when you book your room". I was dumbfounded that she was that snotty. Maybe she was just having a bad day but then again, maybe not. Management should take notice.

If you are a non-smoker also be aware that the hotel is attached to a casino, people are smoking everywhere on the lobby level and the smoke wafts in from outside easily. We ended up at the SpringHill Marriott a stone's throw away -- an all non-smoking hotel, restaurant and casino AND their customer service was EXEMPLARY! We found out later that it was the top hotel choice in Deadwood and it was quite evident why after our sub-par experience at the Hampton. The hotel was spotless and every request was handled promptly, professionally and with a smile ( extra bed linens, parking questions, restaurant recommendations etc.) Save yourself a headache -- bypass Hampton and go straight to the SpringHill Marriott - even if you qualify for an employee discount. It's not worth it.

Stayed in a King Jacuzzi suite that consisted of two rooms-one was a sitting room with a fridge, microwave, pullout sofa and tv, the other a huge bedroom with a king bed and jacuzzi tub. The bathroom and separate vanity area were also plenty big. We did have a minor housekeeping problem on the first night which was taken care of promptly and with a smile by Rose (an employee worth her weight in gold, she consistently checked with us to make sure everything was okay). Two very minor complaints, as a tea drinker, I was surprised that there was not any tea in the room. Most everywhere I travel, provides for tea drinkers and when I asked that it be provided in my room, they did so. The other, when we arrived, we were told where to park and upon our return after sightseeing the next day, we parked in the same place. The following day, we spent our full day in Deadwood itself and never used our car. At check out, we were charged for valet parking for two nights. When challenged, the item was removed from our bill. I do have one suggestion, the Hampton needs to make better arrangements for their breakfast room. The room is far to small and on two occasions we arrived to find every seat full and had to go back to our rooms for awhile and return later. There is only seating for 26 people at a time and that is just far to small for a hotel that has four floors. The breakfast themselves were pretty good. All things considered this is a really good place to stay on Main Street in Deadwood, within walking distance to everything. Would stay here again.

noisy squeaky door, the breakfast area was super small and as a result we had to eat in our room and we went at 8am. My husband left the door ajar with a do not distrub sign so I could follow him with my breakfast and the maid opened the door without knocking or saying anything, looked at my husband and then just closed the door, quite annoying.
She also left clean towels but didn't straighten our beds, or touch up vacuum the day before.
