My wife, our pooch, and I spent four nights at the DMG this past June and had a great time! We stayed in the Big and Rich suite, and thought the room was very nice. The room was very clean, and set up nicely. The bedroom is separated from the living room area by a rock fireplace room divider. On the bedroom side of the divider was the fireplace and a flat screen TV and on the living room side there was a small frig and another flat screen TV. The pluses of the room were: very comfy bed, very wide (although narrow) balcony facing the town, nice size bathroom (good shower water pressure and a shower head that was at a good height, I am 6'4" so that is important to me), a nice size in room safe, and like I said earlier, very clean. The only real negatives were there was no microwave, and although they have room service, there were no menus in the room.

A lot of people reviewing this hotel are put off by the fact you have to use two sets of elevators to get to the hotel rooms. We did not find this difficult at all. You do have to walk through part of the casino to get to the first set of elevators which take you to the hotel check in and then another set to get to the rooms, but the whole journey is not that long, and the casino is easy to navigate.

The casino itself is very small (not by Deadwood standards), but actually quite nice. We love roulette, and while they don't have any live roulette tables, they do have an automatic roulette table that uses an actual roulette wheel, and continuously spins. We had a great time there. The casino also serves complimentary well drinks. You can purchases top shelf liquors also, and if you do, ask about long pours (definitely worth the extra $1.50).

We ate several meals at the hotel, and while I did have an excellent Walleye dinner the first night, overall the food was just okay.

The best part of the hotel though was the people working there! The whole staff was awesome!! Special mention goes out to Lisa at check in, The Jerry's (pony-tailed and good fellow, well he reminded me of a mob guy), and a lady (I am so sorry I didn't get her name because she was so awesome!) who assisted with luggage our last day there. She works for the school system for most of the year, then works at DMG during the summer. Super lady! Everyone we encountered went out of their way to help out or just say hey! Thanks to all of you!!

Exceptionally clean, comfortable, brand new rooms. Make sure you ask for a city view because a "mountain view" is the side of the rock, literally a the side of the mountain 5 feet from your window. Amenities are not that of a 5 star hotel, No room service available during our stay. No laundry service which we really needed. Our stay was on a Tuesday and Wed, so the hotel was not crowded, no shows going on. Casino was pretty empty and I did not detect any smoke smell. Indoor pool is small but we were the only ones in it. Great location, within easy walking distance to Main St. Very easy parking. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Exceptional food in the Aught6 restaurant. Best breakfast ever. Overall a wonderful hotel, but missing amenities, (one night we were dying for room service we were so tired) so I will actually give it a 4.5!

Room Tip: Remember to ask for a room with a city view. Suite is awesome with a fireplace separating the bedro...

Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, rooms very clean, and lots of history in the building yet very modern. Casino is great and they have plenty of variety in their live music offerings inside and outside.

Very unique hotel to stay at. We've never stayed at anything similar. You are greeted at the door by a friendly staff person. You do have to walk to the back of a casino and then take an elevator to get to the hotel, but Vegas is similar. Rooms are very nice and spacious...old world charm but modern amenities. Very comfortable beds and room was quiet!! Nice bathroom. Lobby is very nice and staff is friendly. Fresh lemon and orange water was delicious. Close to area bars, restaurants, and attractions. You can sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. There is a small stream that runs "below" the hotel. We would stay here again. Affordable option. Our kids enjoyed the stay as well.

Room Tip: Ask for a city view...otherwise you might look at the side of a hill.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Please know that our main building was actually a Slime Plant, built in 1906, because it is historic and lies within Deadwood's Historic Landmark District, Deadwood Historic Preservation rules and regulations apply. But the hotel is new. Nevertheless, our hotel had to follow the guidelines set forth by those historic preservation rules in joining the existing building, thus, the short walk through the casino. We have a great valet service waiting to help all our guests with their luggage. Again, thank you, and we do hope to see you again should you travel this way in the future.

Regards,

You know how it is: you get a decent rate on a hotel room from their reservations staff; then when you arrive at this hillside hotel and make your way to your very nice new room, you discover 'it'. 'It' is a view of the very steep hill just outside the back of the hotel. No vistas, nothing, just some plants and a small tree or two close to your window.

When you book a room at a hotel with a great setting, why can't the clerk tell you that with the seniors' rate there is no view? That way you could decide whether to pay more for a view room or to book somewhere else.

We did have some fun at the alfresco bar at happy hour, with a nice group at a class reunion sitting near us, and a three piece band we found entertaining. Good drinks and good prices.

Nice hotel, big clean room, quietness blah, blah, blah but no view.

Room Tip: Ask which side of the hotel you'll be on before booking the room.

Thanks you for your review, we’re glad you enjoyed the Slime Plant Bar! We apologize for your disappointment regarding your room type/view. Please know discounted rooms, including senior discounts, can book any room type available at the time of booking. Anyone has the option to book whatever is available at the time they book. Whether that is a cheaper standard room or a little more expensive view room. If a senior rate is offered for a particular day, we offer it for all room types, not just the mountain-view rooms. We want our guests to have a wonderful stay with us, and we will do whatever possible to make our guests happy.

Stayed here for a weekend getaway. All the staff were very kind and helpful. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were quiet, which was a nice surprise. There is also on-site parking which is a major plus in Deadwood.

Room Tip: Get one with a Balcony
