“The Bullock Rocks!”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

The Bullock was the place we stayed from 10/15-10/20/13. The staff was great, ESPECIALLY JOHN in Bully's. Breakfast every morning was the best and John is the friendliest and most efficient. He spoils his guests! The room was very comfortable with a wonderfully hot shower and a very comfortable bed. (I am picky about mattresses and this one in Rm 314 was great!) Margot helped us set up our reservations prior to our trip, and we met her when we got to Deadwood. She is very nice as were many of the people we met at the hotel- very helpful and accommodating. The Charlie's who entertained in the afternoon on Thurs-Sun were great also! Great Time!

If you are going to mine for gold at Deadwood in the Dakota Territory then you have to stay at the sheriff's hotel. The hotel is on the same lot where Seth Bullock and Sol Starr opened their hardware business in 1876. This establishment is fun and filled with history. So, of course, is much of Deadwood. The Gem is down the block and Saloon #10 across the street. The hotel is very comfortable with spacious rooms and good food in the restaurant. The staff is terrific, casual and very willing to help. The hotel is in superb shape and meticulously maintained with a study towards its original decor evident. And the room rates we thought were very fair. The mix of history and modern amenities makes the Bullock the perfect Deadwood hospice. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: I suggest you try room 303 overlooking the main street. Super large, corner room with comfortable be...

The historical spirit of Deadwood, S.D., demands that visitors suspend their reality for a few hours, or perhaps overnight, as they imagine what it might have been like to live here in the late 1800s, when Sheriff Seth Bullock built the Bullock Hotel. But reality quickly evaporates when you settle into the renovated rooms, try your luck at the ground floor casino and head outside for the staged street shootouts. We would not miss Deadwood on this trip West, primarily because of the beloved HBO series bearing its name that brought the town's characters into flesh, including Seth Bullock. The hotel more than lives up to expectations, though the town is a bit long in the tooth. Our of-the-era room with period furnishings was small but pleasant and well-appointed; breakfast downstairs at Bully's was exceptional because of the chef's inventive morning fare. One must visit the cemetery (drive don't walk) to see the famous interred, and if you are staying at the Bullock, be sure to take the much longer hike up boot hill above the cemetery to see Seth and Martha Bullock's graves and honor the memory of this hotel's namesake.

We stayed at the Bullock Hotel in Deadwood, South Dakota, in September 2013. We had a great room. It was very spacious and so was the bathroom. Even though the hotel had historic furnishings, the room had modern conveniences. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is right in the middle of town, and it was easy to walk around. I would love to return for another stay!

During our time at the Bullock, we endured well over 4' of snow, no power, no TV, no phones, no hot food, nothing for a day or more. They have an incredible staff that did everything to keep us warm, fed, and taken care of during the outage! Our room was wonderful, amazing historical furniture and decor, no sign of Seth but enjoyed the stay very much. We also got a great tour of the "cellar" along with the history that goes with it. If you EVER go to Deadwood, you HAVE to stay at the Bullock! You won't regret it!

Room Tip: We stayed in 313, one of the largest in the hotel and it's fabulous! End of the hall and very q...

My husband and I stayed at he Bullock Hotel and it was wonderful. Very spacious, and it had huge bathroom. It is supposed to be haunted which I love but every little noise had me jumping. Very historic furnishings with the the modern conveniences. It has a great location and we based here while we visited Deadwood, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Devil's Tower. This was simply the best vacation ever.

We recently had the opportunity to stay at the Bullock Hotel in historic Deadwood, SD and we had a fabulous evening! The room was quant and clean, the décor in the hotel was authentic to the old days and the staff were friendly. The hotel is rumored to be haunted but unfortunately we did not meet any ghosts-perhaps next time.
