“Loved the Bullock Hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2010

The Bullock has the most comfortable bed I've slept on in a hotel. The room was small but nice and clean. The staff in the hotel and restaurant were ALL very helpful and kind. Good food in the restaurant, some other hotels in town not so great. Love the history of Deadwood and the hotel. It's supposed to be a haunted hotel but we didn't experience anything odd. With the bed so comfortable we probably slept right through our ghostly haunts! Third floor has great views. When we go to Deadwood again, hopefully we can stay in our same room (302).

My husband, myself, our children, our parents and siblings all stayed here for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. However, we found the staff to be less than hospitable, our second night there the desk clerks were rude and arrogant. They also overcharged us $150.00 on our credit credit for the rooms and 2 months later have still not credited our credit card. I called 2 weeks ago to find out why we have'nt been re-imbursed and was; told they would check into it and call back the next day, they never did, I have had to try to contact them again. Once I contacted them, finally, they are saying they dont need to credit our card, when I disagreed with this, the business mgr. had the nerve to laugh at me. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone after the rotten attitude many of the employees have here. PS - at breakfast in the hotel restuarant, my husband's coffee cup had lipstick on it, obviously it had'nt been washed, gross. I feel that my husband and I and our families spent a considerable amount of money at this place that week and the attitude of some of the hotel staff and the marketing coordinator, Julia Sherman, was definately not appreciated.

We responded to this customer in writing and with a copy of their bill, showing that the deposit of $150.00 had been credited to their account upon check-out. Upon further review, the folio also showed where they had received our jacuzzi suite for free. This was a wedding reception and sleeping rooms for three nights. We apologize if, in the course of events, they found our staff rude. That is certainly not the norm.

Lovely hotel set in the middle of downtown Deadwood. Room was spacious and comfy. Bed was fantastic. Had dinner in the hotel restaurant. The restaurant didn't look like much when we first walked in but the food was fantastic. My wife had Salmon and i had the most delicious Prime Rib. The meal was one of the best we had on our holiday and it was very reasonably priced.

We had a wander around the 'Casino' floor and played a few of the fruit machines. Don't think Vegas type Casino. Think more like pub with three dozen fruit machines. Still it wasn't a problem as we weren't staying in The Bullock because it had a 'Casino'

Had a few drinks in the bar downstairs prior to the Ghost Tour, perhaps this is why i enjoyed the tour, and again the prices were pretty reasonable.

The ghost tour was enjoyable. Not a believer in ghosts myself however the chap who conducted the tour was very entertaining. Much better ghost tour than at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park.

A couple of minor grumbles. Firstly the smoke from the 'Casino' downstairs could be smelt in our room in the morning. Not a massive problem more than likely my super sensitive sense of smell and aversion to cigarette smoke at work.

Secondly our room was right beside an outside air con unit which was humming away from most of the night. Not a major problem as we're both heavy sleepers however i imagine it could trouble a light sleeper.

We enjoyed our stay at the Bullock Hotel. Had Room 303 at the front of the hotel. The only downside was street noise. The room was quite large, 2 queen beds, very clean and very comfortable. The people who work there are all very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed two nights at the historic Bullock Hotel in room 302. The whole hotel exudes elegance, and the staff were always on their toes. Our room was charming, and spotless. The bed was dreamy to curl up in. We didn't see any ghosts, but our window kept closing by itself. Staying here added so much to our enjoyment of Deadwood. It is amazing to just wander around the hotel and feel the history. They also offer ghost walks. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Deadwood. Spend the money and take home the memories, it is so worth it!

The location of course is great, as is the fact that it's historic, and possibly haunted (which is why other family members wanted to stay there). It was nice but I expected the beds to be a little more comfortable. They seemed old and chea and we didn't sleep very well. Otherwise, the room was good and seemed to fit to its historic nature.
We didn't see or hear any ghosts unfortunately, but a family member says she caught "orbs" in some photos. We did have a few problems with the water pressure and the shower shutting off (or was it the ghosts?!!) but I guess that should be expected in such an old building. It was a nice stay. The casinos on the other hand were pretty bad. I could sit at a slot machine for a long time and never even get one bonus. I did do best at the Tin Lizzy.

Our family stayed overnight in July, 2010 in Room 303. We stayed in Deadwood for the history and the Bullock Hotel was the only choice for us. It's a smoking room, but we couldn't smell anything. It's a corner room, facing Main Street. The plus side is a bird's eye view of one of the shootouts. The downside is all the motorcycles are a little loud, but it's part of the ambience. The room and bathroom are good size. The room could have been vacuumed better. There was some trash on the floors around the baseboards. The bathroom was very clean. If you want new, this is not your place. The bedding is old, but the beds are comfortable. The TV is old, but it works. The staircase, doors and woodwork are beautiful. You actually get a real key, not a card. The ground floor is all slot machines. So is every other establishment in Deadwood. The hotel is quiet and interesting. There's a book by the front desk filled with letters and pictures of visitor's ghostly encounters. I would have liked to stay two nights so that we could do the ghost tour, because they only do it once per evening and it conflicted with the Trial of Jack McCall. Even though the kids "didn't believe" they wouldn't sit out in the hallway for 15 minutes by themselves at night. There's no refrigerator in the room. The front desk was very helpful with our medicine. They have their own parking lot behind the building, across the street. The curb was being worked on so no pulling up to the building for luggage loading/unloading. However, the parking attendant had our name even though we got to town in the morning. There are Marriotts and Hiltons everywhere. We chose to stay in a hotel with some personality and it was the right choice.
