“The nicest in Deadwood”
Reviewed 2 July 2013

Found this newly opened hotel by happenstance and sure glad we did!
From check in to check out everything and everyone was great! If you are visiting the area and don't know where to stay, look no longer. You can't go wrong choosing this Hotel. Room accommodations and amenities exceeded all expectations. The complementary breakfast choices were truly amazing. I could go on and on but you get the point. I would go out of my way to stay here when in the area. Although this is part of the "Cadillac Jack" complex, do not confuse the Springhill Suites by Marriott with the Cadillac Jack's Rooms and Suites.
The casino is in a separate part of the building and you wouldn't even know it was there unless like me you wanted to wander next door and contribute to the local economy.
Very easy walk to Downtown or ride the shuttle right outside the door.
Would highly recommend to all.

Room Tip: If available, rooms on the front side have a better view

What a wonderful hotel in the middle of Deadwood, actually the middle of Cadillac Jacks in the town of Deadwood, S.D. It just doesn't get any better then these brand new rooms with modern decor in the middle of the wild west! Found this place by accident as it is so new there wasn't much about it on the internet which also made the prices very good. They have a full breakfast included and they have a WONDERFUL girl by the name of Sue who works there. Always had a smile on her face and advice on what to do. She was a gem to find all on its own!
The place has a full bar, hot tub pool and firepit as well. Would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: It seemed to me all the rooms were good

We booked this hotel for our visit to the Badlands as well as Mount Rushmore and arrived on the 10th for a 3 night stay. The room was lovely and even though our room was on the front on the 4th floor it was quiet. Of course we were there during the week and not on a weekend so that might make a huge difference. The first night was great. The housekeeper we had the first day was absolutely awesome..I believe her card said Flor...something. I was going to commend her but the housekeeper on the second day removed her card from our desk. The lady taking care of breakfast was equally awesome though they have kinks they definitely need to iron out. They had one four slice toaster which you had to wait forever to get to. The bread / muffin display is right next to it which often made it almost impossible to even get to it because of the line of people waiting to use the toaster. The hot food was pretty good though the lady in charge had a hard time keeping up with the demand. She did a phenomenal job but there is only so much you can do when food is gone 5 minutes after you put it out. My biggest complaint was the front staff. The first night we asked them where we could go for dinner that was still open at 9:30 and the only place they could tell us was the casino restaurant next door..they seemed to have little knowledge of what was available in Deadwood. The next day we left and were gone all day sightseeing only to return back sweaty and tired with no hot water. We called downstairs to inquire and they said they would have maintenance have a look. 1.5 hours later after not hearing back I called again only to be told that they were not sure what was wrong and they would have to call a plumbing service. To me if they were aware that they were unable to fix it they should have at least called back to inform me. The next morning it remained unfixed and we were informed it was affecting the entire hotel and that they didn't anticipate it being done until that night. This was a big downer for me as I don't enjoy starting my day still feeling sweaty and dirty from the day before. Late that evening when we returned they did have it finally repaired. Upon check out they never inquired how our stay was and never apologized for the inconvenience of not having hot water. As a Marriott Gold member this was definately not the service we have come to expect from a Marriott brand. I realize the hotel was new and there may have been kinks to iron out but I at least expected an apology for the inconvenience. Our housekeeper switched on day 2 and 3..Sandra I think was her name and our housekeeping took a plunge. The room was not properly clean when we returned and the bed looked as if my 9 year old had made it. That was certainly an added disappointment on top of the lack of hot water. Aside from that it is a lovely hotel, very tastefully appointed and comfortable. One other reviewer mentioned that their toilet was in a separate room and I feel I should mention that this is not the case with all rooms. Our room included the shower, sink, and toilet all in one room. The beds were super comfortable though and all the room requests associated with our Marriott card (extra pillows etc) were fulfilled when we arrived. So definite kudos to housekeeping for that. Overall it is a hotel we would return to as I'm sure experience will help where staff is concerned.

Dear Traveler0603,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We are a brand new addition to Deadwood having only been less than a week I believe during your stay given the hot water issue we experienced . I am so happy to hear your Marriott preferences were met and overall you were happy wit your stay. Thank you also for sharing where we have an opportunity to get better. I do have a brand new staff, many of which are new to the area. We look forward to your return to Deadwood in the near future and very much appreciate your feedback.

Quite a nice upgrade for the Deadwood Lodging for sure. The hotel is really one of the nicest in the black hills, or anywhere really. Great rooms, great location for hitting the Northern Black Hills. And while they do ding you for parking, they also provide a coupon for discounts to offset the fee, so you come out better if you take advantage. While attached to the Cactus Jack's Casino, it is entirely separate in nature. And you can sit in the lobby, and not know you are steps away. Very nice breakfast, great staff, clean rooms. Spacious as well. All in all, this is the place I would stay if going back to Lead or Deadwood.

Room Tip: If you want a quieter room, ask for one on the back side of the hotel, facing the hill as opposed to...

Stayed for two nights the hotel is brand new and really excellent. Pool area and weight room is the best we have ever seen. Staff could not have done more. we were surprised to be invited as VIP guests to the grand opening party. Had a great time. Trolleys stop right outside the hotel every half hour and will take you anywhere in deadwood for a dollar.. Fantastic time great service and really nice rooms.

Room Tip: Only two types of rooms so it's a no brainer

As a Platinum Marriott guest, I've stayed in a few hotels in my career. Seeing that this hotel just opened and that they were on top of every aspect of the hotel was impressive. I applaud their training. Bring a swimsuit as their pool and hot tub are very nice. The Bar in the lobby has everything you need and service is top notch. Stay here if your even close to Rapid City, Spearfish or Sturgis.
