we were staying as part of a wedding, the day was unbelivably hot and the wedding service went without any hitches. the food was floorless and wonderful. the service was good and everyone of the staff were helpful and nothing was to much for them. we then moved onto the evening service and again nothing was to much. the rooms were clean and aired

I should start with the worst feature: the breakfast, which has to be one of the worst breakfasts that I have experienced in many decades of international travel. I see all the rave reviews on TripAdviser from people who were at weddings here and I can only say that they either had a special breakfast - or maybe slept through it! Cereal options are: Cornflakes; Coco Pops or Weetabix. Toast (when you eventually get it) was from very cheap bread. Cooked breakfast served from heated pans: poor quality sausages/bacon; eggs can be hard-boiled or very rubbery scrambled egg - the tomatoes and beans were harmless. Milk full fat only. Coffee in jugs on hot plate - and there for some time! No fresh fruit or fruit salad, just tinned peaches in syrup. Staff were enthusiastic and tried to be helpful but were hopelessly disorganised.

When we first checked into our room, it felt damp but any smell was overpowered by a scent-dispenser on full blast in the hallway. Once we had turned it off, you could smell the musty smell. I'm not sure whether this was just poor ventilation in the bathroom - the mirror quickly got steamed up and didn't clear for some time - but I think it was actually rising damp. No apparent mould on walls, carpet or bed.

We also found very quickly that the walls were incredibly thin and that when our neighbours switched on something they had plugged into a socket, it felt like they were in the room with us. Thankfully, they must have just fallen into bed when they got in that evening or we would certainly have been kept awake.

A few small things: when the tea-making facilities were topped up, they forgot to replenish the plastic milk servings. They also took away our 1-day-old soap (which I thought a bit wasteful - but then didn't give us a new one, either! They also managed to double-book us, once on the Groupon voucher and once as a credit card booking.

Positives? The staff tried hard and were very pleasant. They were happy to recommend a pub for a pub meal - the Fox and Hounds in Lyng - but actually we wished we had tried the hotel restaurant as the Fox and Hounds served imaginative menus but woefully overcooked vegetables and fish drowned in oil. Other positive points about the hotel were that the beer (Adnams Southwold bitter) was good and they had a good range of malt whiskies. The weddings that we saw on the Friday and Saturday nights looked to be enjoyed by those who were there: other reviewers seem to say that the hotel manages weddings well, which astonishes me, given their inability to either cook or serve breakfast.

We won't be back!

Room Tip: If you want a good room, ask for one that isn't damp and has thicker walls. If they can't or won't oblige, try a different hotel.

Lovely location, patio overlooking the river. Spacious dining room/restaurant. On arrival Pinot Grigio not chilled. Attended the fish evening. My fish goujons were deep fried to a cinder, crayfish tail and prawn salad "smothered" in a sharp Marie Rose sauce. Main course of whole Dab served on a bed of mashed potato sounded nice. Could not see the fish as it was covered in a thick (and I mean thick, almost semolina-like) sauce. Not presented at all well. The skate wing was pretty tasteless and again not presented very well. We were asked if the starters were okay, we said not really but nothing was done about it. Asked is mains were okay, again we said not really but nothing was done about it. Needless to say we did not ask for desserts. On leaving we spoke to the lady owner who simply said "we have not had any complaints before and the food was prepared by our Head Chef". We paid the full amount, leaving the most delightful and apologetic waitress a small tip, which would have been bigger if the food was up to scratch. The whole food experience was a disappointment and we had high expectations given the lovely surroundings. We were going to book for a small party of guests for our silver wedding but have decided to go elsewhere.

Room Tip: We did not stay at this hotel so can't comment on the rooms.

This is a lovely hotel to have a wedding but if you are not a guest at the wedding be prepared for poor service. Our room was not serviced after our first night (this has never happened to cme before) and at breakfast he wedding guests had a huge table down the middle of the room which made us feel like intruders. There was never enough staff and our table was half set. The staff were doing their best but were rushed off their feet.

Room was good though with a comfy bed.

We got married at Lenwade Country House Hotel on 16th June 2012. From the very first viewing of the property with Jane we knew this is where we wanted to have our wedding. The location is stunning, surrounded by the river and beautifully kept grounds and terraces. The building is a perfect mix of old on the outside and updated contemporary decor on the inside. The bridal suite - wow! And we don't even know where to start with the food. Such high quality; delicious and extremely well presented. All our guests were blown away.
What really stood out for us during this visit and all subsequent visits was the staff. The owners Jane and Nick who head up this family run business were warm and welcoming from the start. They answered any questions (and we had many) knowledgeably and with patience! Everyone we met along the way had a smile and a "hello" for us from that first meeting through to the day after the event and beyond. Jane even came into the hotel the day after on her birthday just to say goodbye to us - such a personal touch. All the staff were fantastic but a special mention for the whole weekend should go to the manager Adie who went above and beyond.
We can't recommend this hotel enough and can't wait to head back for our anniversary...
