Reviewed 29 June 2014

Our family enjoyed our stay at Palmer Gulch! We stayed in one of the cabins with the hottub on the deck! The cabin was clean and comfortable! It was wonderful and the staff were friendly and very helpful! My only complaint was the lack of internet access..lol. We will visit Palmer Gulch again..we loved it!!!!

Perfect location to stay and enjoy the Hills. Trail rides, good restaurant & bar. We will stay again. No night clerk but it was not an issue- did get kicked out of the hot tub at 9pm even though it is supposed to be open until 10 pm. Because the staff were all leaving for the night.

We stayed in the lodge for a family reunion. The room was a nice size for 2 double beds. It could have been a little cleaner, but it was fine. I guess this is the case with most hotels, but we were on the 1st floor and could hear the people above us walking around. Maybe we had bad luck with those guests walking around A LOT, but it kept my husband and me awake. I would request a 2nd floor room if you can get it. The free b'fast was pretty sparce, but since it was free, it is hard to complain. The amenities on site were great and much enjoyed by our children. That includes the horseback riding, the hot tub, splash pad, putt putt golf, etc.

Stayed in executive cabin 131? 331? (june 5th until the 8th) along with two other executive cabins for our annual family reunion. Palmer Gulch is a beautiful location a short distance away from Keystone and mount Rushmore, we expected it to be perfect.

Expect your internet to be non existent, their "ambassador" showed up with his personal cell phone saying "i have service, I don't know why your devices don't." I understand cells phones dont work, but do not advertise internet as part of the experience if my laptop has no functioning web service for my work emails.

The winder shutters were all missing the pieces to move directions, and we later discovered in the evening the indoor fire place wasn't working. Their "maintenance" man got one burner to work and said our house was too hot for the others to function at this time. Really?! Instead of lying to my family why doesn't the staff explain the burners would not work at this time.

The last day of our trip we discovered our patio door could never lock security since the beginning, which had my grandmother concerned for hours about if anything was possibly stolen, and their was water on the living room wall from a possible leak from rain the night before.

I am a very flexible man but the thousands we spent over one weekend and the lack of resolving ANY problems my family experienced during the stay, I will not be recommending this facility to who would ask.

For a better rating Palmer Gulch will HAVE to :

1. Update and maintain their facility, especially their "executive cabins"
2. Staff be retrained better on guest service and resolution, not a single problem was resolved over the weekend we were there and the staff gave the impression they did not care.
3. Rewire your wifi our take it down, it does no good to lie to paying guests you have a service that is practically non existent.

Thank you

Room Tip: Do not choose executive cabins, needs severe maintenance

We rented a row cabin that was equipped with a 2 burner stove/fridge/sink unit, fireplace, fire ring and 2 double beds. Our room did not have a view, but other rooms/sites had great views. Not the cleanest room I've stayed in and it could of used some updating. Expect ants and small spiders. The resort's beauty, amenities and location made up for what the room lacked. The resort is located in the middle of all of the Black Hills action. Lots of activities for your family at the resort as well. Restaurant and coffee/snack bars on site. The outdoor pool was heated and felt nice after hot day trips to the nearby attractions. Hot tub needs better jets. Staff was friendly/helpful. Cell phone/wifi service is not available, which will allow you to actually talk with your family.

Norm, at the Palmer Gulch Lodge and KOA campground, went out of his way to welcome us and give us a comfortable place to stay. It was a very nice facility and the prices were reasonable. We would highly recommend it, and Norm!

We stayed at the lodge in Aug. 2013. Like everyone notes great location and lots of fun things to do with the kids. Outside of that it goes downhill. 1) They have a management problem! The service was bad and on top of that I called and email when I got home and the management could not respond. Expect! No help with any problems you may have or questions. 1) They have a water problem the pools are green and the tubs and sinks are yellow from the water issue. 2) The towels and sheets may be clean but don't look that way. 3) One on the better rooms in the lodge is next to the office so you can hear the employees. If you are camping the place is great. Be warned of the lodge and most of the staff!! A guest that came asked why the pool was green the front desk person said they were fixing it and then when the man walked away she rolled her eyes has if she was tired of hearing it. Best of luck to those who are going to stay there. I only hope that when the management of the lodge goes on vacation they stay in a place just like the lodge. I will be telling everyone I know about the service.
