We stayed here for seven nights recently in our RV. I simply cannot say enough nice things about this business. For one, the location is outstanding, minutes away from all our central Black Hills favorites. The grounds were idyllic, nice and green with plenty of trees and scenery. The showers were hot, the laundry worked and was clean, the camp store had a small but thoughtful selection of needed items.

Best of all I think was the friendliness of the owner and all the staff. They really went above and beyond to make our stay one to remember.

RJB was a fantastic place for us to find after a disastrous check-in and quick check-out of the local KOA. We were given a great grassy area to set up our tent. Horseback riding was a great treat for our family and rental bikes were also a hit, riding the rails to trails into Hill City! Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: We had our own tent.

My family has been staying at the RJB for decades. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. It is far and away the best place to stay in the Black Hills. It has grown over the years but still retains a family atmosphere and the service is impeccable. The showers are clean and inviting, the C-Store is great, and you can't beat the pancake breakfast. One can tell that the owners enjoy what they do.

We stayed at the Rafter J Bar Ranch property near Hill City, SD for three nights. The cabin was so clean - and very well maintained. Basically a one-room cabin with a separate bathroom. Make sure to bring everything you need (sheets, pillows, blankets, dishes, cutlery, towels etc.) as nothing is provided (except for the fact there is a Keurig Coffee maker & a few coffees for your stay as well as a small fridge and microwave). The grounds a gorgeous - and so well cared for. Small store/office on site (and they also sell decent coffee (starbuck's I think). Great place for a getaway and clost to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and The Needles.

Room Tip: Make sure you bring all of your supplies!

We found this campground purely by chance in 2012. We were on our way home from Montana and decided to go via the Black Hills. Neither my husband or I had ever been to the Black Hills and we were so wonderfully surprised by how beautiful this area is. Our experience was enhanced by being able to stay so close to the scenic loops in the terrific setting at Rafter J. The campground is spacious and quite diversified. Be sure to read the descriptions of the various camping areas so you know what to request when you make reservations. And I would strongly suggest you make reservations so you get to camp in the area you want. We prefer the Lower Ranch camp as it has nice views and is partially shaded. Some of the other areas are very shady, but we have a 45' coach and are less comfortable piloting it among the trees. We are planning to return in a week or so on our way home. It is pricier than many of the campgrounds we've frequented, but well worth the extra money to us.

Room Tip: Read the descriptions of the camping areas on the website. There are 5 of them I believe. Some are fairly remote and if that's what you want, you will love it. However, if that's what you want and all they have are Main Camp, you won't enjoy it as much (and vice versa)
