This place was so nice! The room was clean & the bed & pillows were comfy. Those are always my main concerns so if those are met I'm good. A bonus was the breakfast & the staff. The lady at the front desk at check in was very nice, not stuffy at all. Not all HIE breakfasts are the same & this one was delicious. There was a woman going around to different tables asking people about their stay, giving them ideas on things to do & even directions to get there. She was just being so friendly & helpful & that's not something you get everyday.

We really liked this hotel. The lobby is adorable, the rooms are nice, and staff great.
The closeness to Mt. Rushmore is perfect. Great little town. Breakfast was standard HIE so nothing to write about there.
It appears to be the nicest place in the town.

As a South Dakotan, one thing I pride myself on is this state's incredible friendliness...but it was a little lacking on this particular visit.
We arrived at this property about 1 pm with a 3pm check in. We were told "Check-In is at 3" with no offer to hold items or try to get us a room early - simply sent away. Because it's a busy time of year, though, we can understand how they may be a bit frazzled.

Upon checking in, we were told the incorrect times for the breakfast hours (which was a nice breakfast, by the way). Then, in the morning, they knocked on our door to clean our room at 8:30 pm, waking us up, even though it was our day to check out and we definitely hadn't checked out. Again, I know it's a busy time of year so they need to get things done....

Finally, when we checked out, nobody asked us how our stay was or engaged us in friendly conversation - just wanted to move us through as quickly as possible.

Even with all that, though, this is a nice hotel with clean well-stocked rooms in a great location. I bet when it isn't so busy their SD friendliness shines through as well!

Typical Holiday Inn, Had all of the amenities advertised. Had to drive to town for most restaurants, but not far. Needed Quarters for the Laundry machines, the front desk had $10.00 rolls - perfect! The best part of the stay was every morning we would open our window blinds and find a deer grazing on the neighbors grass :}

Room Tip: If you want to see the deer, ask for a room on the backside.

We stayed two nights. Everyone that we meet was very nice and went above and beyond. We felt "like home". Very clean spacious rooms, kid friendly and great breakfast. Glad that we picked this place. The kids loved watching the steam train. They would wave at the passengers as it went by.
