“Worth the wait for a table”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

Love eating at the Alpine when we are in Hill City. Went for dinner on a Saturday night, and the line was out the door. Our wait was long enough that we went across the street for a pre-dinner cocktail. There is entertainment and cocktails in the lounge while you wait. There is a limited menu, but the Filet Mignon is fantastic. Homemade salad dressing, and the Tiramisu for dessert delicious. I plan my trip to the hills around this restaurant because the food and atmosphere are one of a kind. Best waitress in the hills, filled our drinks 4 or 5 times, fantastic. She got a nice tip. The charge for the meal is a bargain, and you get two choices of size steak in case you like a smaller portion. Can't wait to go back.

“Great restaurant, for lunch...”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

This is a must-do lunch restaurant if you're in the area. Has a broad, German and American menu for lunch but a severely limited dinner menu. You can get a variety of fantastic desserts anytime. You'll have a hard time finding a better Reuben sandwich anywhere, served with a wondrous German potato salad. All the German fare I've tried has been very good. Dinner can be problematic. If you don't want filet mignon for dinner, don't eat here. The steak is average quality, but the desserts make up for it. Be prepared to pay cash, as credit cards are not accepted here.

“Great place to eat.”

The food and atmosphere are both wonderful. This is the place to eat in Hill City, SD. German food is the specialty. Prices are good too.

“Wonderful!!”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Knew we wanted to eat here on our SD visit. We were nervous when we saw how busy it was, thinking we would have to wait a long time but ended up being less than the 15 minutes they told us. Our server was new and very young but she tried hard to engage in conversation with us. The food was AWESOME!! We were watching other tables to see what they ordered - very good sized portions so if you are lean eater you may consider sharing a dish especially if you want room for dessert. My hubby had hard time deciding what to get so he ended up with sampler and some add-ons including Schnitzel and Spaetzle. I was less adventurous with the Croissant Parisienne (which was fabulous) and was thrilled to get a side of German potato salad- something you can't order anywhere near our home!! It was wonderful. We tried hard to save room for dessert- watch out, the desserts are huge and taste great. We did bread pudding and apple cheese strudel. Wish we could have tried more but got too full (had to take leftovers home)! The atmosphere is charming- accurate to the pics on website. Highly recommend you dine here.

“Great food and desserts”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

We came here for dinner the day we arrived in Hill City. There are two menu options for dinner filet mignon and spaetzle and both are excellent. The small filet mignon with a bake potato, salad and bread is just $10. During our dinner we saw these amazing desserts being delivered to the other tables so we had to try them for ourselves. We had the tiramisu and the grand chocolate tower -- both excellent. The service was also very good -- definitely recommend if you are visiting Hill City.
