“Comfortable and Very Clean!!”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

We enjoyed our stay in cabin 5. The cabins are in the middle of all the tourist attractions, which makes this a very convenient place to stay! We would definately stay here again. The staff is friendly and very helpful!!

Pine Rest Cabins are close to Highway 16-385, but at night, it is very quiet and pleasant to sleep with the windows opened. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is very convenient to Mt. Rushmore and Custer National Park. Although we chose to eat out, they provide a barbeque and picnic bench for each cabin. I would stay there again when in the area.

We spent 3 nights during our Black Hills road trip. We originally booked a one bedroom but decided we'd like more space. The owners were very helpful changing the reservation. Check in was a breeze. We got our keys and headed to our cabin. When you entered the bathroom was directly in front of you. To the left was a fully stocked kitchen with a futon/couch. To the right was the bedroom with two queen size beds. The cabin had a great porch with a large picnic table were we ate most of our meals. The cabin and all linen was very clean. It is obviously an older cabin but the paint was fresh and well maintained. There was everything you could need in the kitchen. The fridge was full sized but the stove was apartment sized. We used both and had no problems. The only cons are that the bathroom and shower are small and the location. I was hoping to be able to walk into Hill City but the cabins are located out of town a couple miles and is located on a fairly busy highway. This could also be a pro as it was very quiet. The only traffic we regularly heard were motorcycles, but we made the choice to travel the weekend before Sturgis and it was to be expected. All in all this is a great place to set up camp in the Black Hills.

As always, we loved our time at Pine Rest. The cabins are clean, beds are comfortable, and the owners are absolutely wonderful. The cabins are near to the road, but I didn't find that it was ridiculously loud. We've stayed in a single cabin and in the duplex cabins twice. If you have nice neighbors in the duplexes you won't have any issues. We, however, had some pretty rude neighbors the last time we were there. They were extremely loud, gave their (loud) children a bath at 11 pm, and used up all the hot water 2 mornings in a row causing us to have to get a late start to our day because we were waiting for hot water. This was NOT the fault of Pine Rest. I just wanted to let others be aware that this is a possibility if you stay in a duplex.

It's so nice to hear you still loved the cabins after your third stay with us- thank you for taking the time to post a review. Hope to see you again soon and remember as a return customer you will always get the best discount rate we offer for the season. The 2 bedroom duplex cabins have been very popular with their private porches, fireplaces , vaulted ceilings and knotty pine interiors. We appreciate your comments about the comfortabe beds and cleanliness - will pass your compliments on to our staff. Thank you for your patience with your neighbors, we do our best to be sure there is plenty of hot water for all and fortunately , as you experienced on your previous visits, sound is rarely a problem between the units - our apologies - any concerns next time, let us know and we'll try and help out. Many happy returns! Jan & Steve & Staff of Pine Rest Cabins

The cabin was very clean and just enough for all of us. Two adults, 3 children. The bath towels were big and thick, very nice! We stayed during sturgis week and while during the day, the highway noise was constant as you should expect, at night, very quiet! We had our windows open and was just fine. Jan and Steve were very helpful as we ended up with a dental emergency and they were able to find us a dentist close by. Pine Rest cabins is wonderfully located in the middle of all of the exciting places to see, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, etc. We couldn't ask for a better location!!!

For the 9th consecutive year we stayed with Jan & Steve at the Pine Rest Cabins in Hill City SD. And as always our stay was FANTASTIC! Their facilities and location is just perfect for Rally Day Trips through the glorious Black Hills of SD. We honestly couldn't ask for a better place to stay and with 29 consecutive years of Rally attendance we've learned a thing or two about doing it right! We would strongly recommend a stay with them during the 2015 75th Anniversary Sturgis Rally, you just can't have Cabin #8 because we've already booked it for another outstanding 10 day stay! (Thanks so much for the huge new smoker grill out front!)

On the wall of your Cabin #8 hangs an old sampler which reads "Let me Live in a House by the Side of the Road and be a Friend to Man". You've done just that over the past 9 years and we are glad you have. Thanks again for the kind review, for your genuine appreciation for what we do to keep Pine Rest Cabins going, and for sharing in a bit of our lives here in the Black Hills of South Dakota along the side of the road to Hill City, Custer and yes, Sturgis too! We couldn't do it without the help of our staff and we've passed your compliments on to them. I recently came accross the old poem from which that sampler's sentiment was taken ; " The House by the Side of the Road " written by Sam Walter Foss ( 1858-1911) . I found it a wonderful coincidence he died the year Pine Rest Cabins was established and his philosophy has somehow become our own over the years. (there I go, getting all philosphical on you again - Uver knows better!! ) 'Til next year, I leave you with one of Foss's verses: "I see from my house by the side of the road, By the side of the highway of life, The men who press with the ardor of hope, the men who are faint with strife, But I turn not away from their smiles, nor their tears, Both parts of an infinite plan; Let me live in my house by the side of the road, and be a friend to man. " MANY HAPPY RETURNS! from Jan & Steve & family , including Uver & Staff of Pine Rest Cabins
