“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2013

This was a great Mom and Pop place to stay while in the Black shills. We used Hill City for 3 nights as our center of operations while we spent time touring all the local sites. The motel was clean, convenient, and reasonably priced. The breakfast was lacking and they easily could do better in that area, but otherwise it was a great place to stay.

The Lantern in was like being at home, but better, since we were having fun on the road. The owners could not have been more accomodating and gracious. We cooked out on the grill by the pool two evenings and totally enjoyed ourselves. The pool is small but perfect. The rooms are not luxurious by Hilton standards but very clean and comfortable, which we prefer anyway! Enjoy!

Thanks to previous reviews,we chose the Lantern Inn. The room is clean, comfortable, with mini fidge, & microwave. The location was great for visiting Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial and Custer National Park. We spent 2 relaxing nights here. Krull's Supermarket directly across the street makes picking up snacks very convenient. I would definitely stay again. Thanks Drew.

Returned from a trip to South Dakota to view Mount Rushmore and area sights in September 2013. This was a great location, clean, friendly and very reasonably priced. There is a wonderful train museum and train ride just down the street. Even better is a supermarket directly across the street! The room is equipped with a mini fridge, which made it convenient to pick-up some fruit, dairy, snack items etc... Prior postings are correct. Drew is young, energetic, knowledgeable and so helpful. The Lantern Inn is also conveniently located for the attractions, Mount Rushmore, Custer City, Custer State Park, Wind and Jewel Cave, Crazy Horse, etc... Rapid City is less than 30 miles away. I would definitely recommend a stay here, great for the budget conscious!

This is a great place to know about. The new owner, Drew, is a young man who takes care of the place well and has a good staff that keep it clean. Comfortable room, clean and quiet. Breakfast is good to excellent, hot tub is clean and functional, close to destinations in the Black Hills. Would definitely stay there again.

For what we were looking for on our bike trip and the price, the Lantern Inn in Hill City was a great place to stay. Our room was quaint and clean. The bed was comfortable. Even though it's located right next to the highway, the atmosphere was quiet and secluded. The hot tub was great after a long day of biking, too. We were just a short walk from a great restaurant and right across the street from a grocery store. We definitely recommend The Lantern Inn to anyone looking for an affordable, comfortable place to stay in Hill City.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2013

We stayed there for 3 nights in July, 2013.

Drew could not have been any nicer, he even helped my nephew string his fishing pole.

The room was spacious enough for our family of 5 and all our stuff.

The hotel is located within easy driving distance of Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Jewel Cave, Wind Cave, and Rapid City. And take time to enjoy Hill City. Also, there is a wonderful grocery store across the street.

My nephew was disappointed that the hot tub was for "adults only," but other than that, we really enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for room 11, it has windows on 3 sides.
