The corn palace is one of those stops that you almost have to do. It's tradition. Our kids liked it and we enjoyed looking at how the palace has changed over the years. Didn't realize that it dated back to the 1800's! If you're headed to the black hills, don't buy any tourist stuff though...it'll be MUCH cheaper on the western side of the state. I found that the black hills gold was half the price and found the exact same kid magnetic rocks for about 40% less at Mt. Rushmore!

We stopped here on the road to the Black Hills. The kids (ages 6 and 13) loved it. The corn-themed gift shop is HUGE, so you might expect to drop a few bucks on a goofy souvineer. The murals made from corn are certainly unique. One of our kids said it was one of the top-three things they saw on this road trip. And best of all -- it's free!

Was pretty cool to see once, but wouldn't need to go back. They were in the process of changing it to new designs, about 1/2 done on the outside, hadn't touched the inside yet. The outside is moving to kids sports so that was neat to see our 5 year old get excited about things she recognized. Inside there's a large room with more murals and tons of gift shop stuff. We spent about 30-45 min, wouldn't need too much longer. I grew up on a farm so think I enjoyed seeing how they used the different grains and made the murals more than my family.

This is one of those attractions that you should see just so you can say you saw it. It was interesting to see the murals and how intricate they are. Worth checking out.

Free attraction. We were there later in the evening so there weren't many people there. Staff was friendly and helpful. The little movie in the theater was insightful.
