During a Mitchell, SD outing with our grandson and his best friend we stayed at the Ramada Inn across the street from the Phoenix & Dragon Chinese Restaurant. The name was intriguing creating the magic of the Phoenix rising from the ashes born again. The legend adopted by early Christians has endured for many centuries.
We decided to have our evening meal in the restaurant with the intriguing name of Phoenix & Dragon Chinese Restaurant. It was about 6:30 pm, the boys wanted something fast for supper so they could go swimming, exercise, and play miniature golf. We wanted to know the origin of the name. We were told, not verified, the restaurants owner, failed in his previous restaurant, and took the name as a sign for renewal. We are sorry to report that at, 630 pm we were the only customers in the restaurant.
The boys ordered shrimp in lobster sauce, and we ordered a Happy Family. Remembering we are the only customers, and it took thirty minutes to get our food. The wait was not worth our being at the Phoenix & Dragon Chinese Restaurant. The food prices were expensive for the lack of quality. The service was slow, the atmosphere was one of despair, and the regrets were felt on both sides of the total experience.
Nice people, in the wrong business, our server was from Cambodia and seemed like she would rather be back in Cambodia. There are many fine restaurants in Mitchell, the Phoenix & Dragon Chinese Restaurant is not one of them.
