Whispering Winds Cottages

We needed a quiet weekend away so chose a cottage at Whispering Winds as it looked so inviting and peaceful in the pictures on line. It was everything we wanted. The cabin was spotlessly clean and very comfortable and so peaceful and quiet. Loved the way the tropical cabin was decorated. We could tour the Black Hills from there as it is centrally located and the owners ,Jim and Marla ,were very friendly and accommodating. It was a beautiful restful weekend. We want to go back next summer and stay longer as it is so relaxing and beautiful there.

We had an amazing time staying at Whispering Winds in the queen cabin 'Iron Horse'. You can see the effort that has been put in in the detailed touches of the cabins. Jim and Marla are the friendliest people you could hope to meet and every night Jim lights the firepit. We met some fantastic locals by the fire and for New Zealanders road tripping around the US this experience was truly priceless and one we will always remember. Thank you Jim and Marla and if the property does sell over winter best of luck for your next adventure. If not, we'd recommend to anyone to take the opportunity to stay here- you wont regret it! Our family stayed for 2 nights as our base for exploring Mt Rushmore area. This is a 2 room cabin with a queen bed in the living room & 2 twins in the bedroom. The place has been remodeled over the past few years by the owners, Jim & Marla. The cabin is clean & comfortable, & full of clever themed touches that reflect a hunting/fishing theme, right down to the magazines available to read! If you go out & sit by
Jim's wonderful communal firepit at night, wear bug repellant. I am pretty sure this is where I got eaten alive on my arms & legs by no-see-em biting midges (60 bites, & no bites on anyone else! Bugs LOVE me.). Alas, Jim & Marla may be selling the place & moving on to their next adventure. Hope the next owner can continue the high standards of hospitality.

This was the perfect place for our party of 4. Close to all the Black Hills attractions. Jim and Marla were great hosts, helpful and very accommodating. The rooms were very clean and adequately supplied for our stay. I would recommend Whispering Winds Cottages for value, location, and cleanliness. Would definitely stay there again!

Coming from out of state to SD on a whim, we didnt think we would stay overnight. We had such a good time in South Dakota we stayed far too late. On Labor day weekend with no thought of the time. 9Pm rolls around and we decide to stay. We seached and called numerous hotels, cabins, motels. You name it, non had any vacancies. One place was recommeded by another hotel. Whispering winds. We were given the number and took the last vacant room. The owners were so helpful and friendly. They called the restraunt nearest them to inquire if they were open. They had been courteous to people who had called, even. After they had no vacancies. Giving numbers to those other callers of other places that they may have found vacancies. They made us feel welcome. The cabins were clean and well stocked. The grounds well kept. We will be going back! Hopfully we will not be so tired next time, so we can join them by the lovely well lit patio that others were enjoying!

We just got back from a 4 night stay at Whispering Winds. We stayed in the Sportsman's Cottage. It was the perfect size for our family. This is our second time staying, and it is perfect! My husband and I have three little girls (4, 2, and 7 months) and my mom also joined us. There is one private room with 2 beds and a tv with a dvd player. There is also a futon in the living room with another kind sized bed. The kitchen has a sink, toaster, coffee pot, microwave, paper plates, utensils for eating and grilling, and a refrigerator with a freezer. It's everything you need! The bathroom was great as well, and there was plenty of room for what we needed. We could also get fresh towels whenever we needed them.

There is a big grill on the deck that is yours to use throughout the stay which was also fantastic! There is great patio furniture on the deck where you can relax and enjoy the view. It's great to be able to park right outside of the cottage, and have your coolers, etc right out on the deck. The grounds are in a little bit of a valley, so there isn't any risk of the kids running onto the road. They also installed a playset as well, which was perfect for our kiddos. Swings, a slide, and a rock climbing wall, as well as tons of open space to run around. It isn't super crowded, which is great! We also got a great nights sleep as the grounds were very quiet at night.

Jim and Marla were fantastic hosts! Super friendly and answered all of our questions about the area. They started a camp fire every night and the girls LOVED making s'mores.

If you are thinking of staying some place in the black hills, without a doubt, THIS is the place to stay. We are already planning for next year! :)

We arrived , two 42 ft big rigs. Our spots were side by side and the hook ups all were in total service to our rigs.
The grounds are immaculate. We felt like we could have eaten off the ground.Jim and Marla ,the owners, were some of the best hosts we have ever had the pleasure of meeting in our travels. The grills were cleaned each day and they looked new all the time. Plus the park provided grilling utensils that looked like they just came out of the wrapper. They provided fire wood and a campfire each nite. At the campfire we met 2 couples and talked at the fire until 11 p.m. We r on a 45 day trip. We wish everyday could be as good as the time we spent @ Whispering Wind.
