“Great Stop over in Rapid City”

We stopped over in Rapid City on our way to the Black Hills. This was the most wonderful stay ever. The beds were so comfortable , rooms clean , and the made to order breakfast fantastic. The staff was very accommodating as well.

RUDE. We booked our Hilton Garden Inn room on-line prior to arrival at $139. When we arrived, the front desk staff told us they had no record of our confirmation number in their system....and they only had one room left and the price was $219. We calmly showed them our reservation confirmation on our mobile device. They were furious with the rate we had paid and made no secret about it. FOUR staff people standing there trying to figure out how to avoid the reservation! However, after seeing the Hilton Confirmation Acknowledgement on our mobile phone, they had to honor the rate....but they were very unhappy about it. While they handed us a key.....there was not a kind word spoken to us. No offer for free water bottles since I was a Silver HH member....nothing. We were literally embarrassed and shocked at this treatment. I have NEVER felt so unwelcomed at a prominent chain hotel.

My wife and I stated here one night on our way home from vacation. Hotel appears brand new even though it is four years old. Room was spacious. Bathroom cramped except for nice large shower. Wifi reception was excellent. Given what appeared to be a pricey room I was surprised that they actually charged for breakfast. (Travelers may want to do some price comparisons, something that we didn't do. ). Staff was very polite. Front desk clerk gave a fairly confused answer about the airport shuttle...make sure you get a straight answer. Wake up call was an hour late...again, make sure there's no misunderstanding. Dinner was very good; side order of fresh fruit was incredibly generous...never seen anything like it. Skipped breakfast. 20 min drive to airport, which is in the boonies with no adjacent hotels.

Overall I rated this property high because we felt all the negatives we experienced were contributed to an unforeseen and difficult to overcome situation. A stomach virus swept through all departments of the hotel staff and significantly reduced available manpower.

The impact was as follows:
1. One person with inadequate training was left to man the check-in desk during peak time and handle a tour bus arrival. Our check-in was long and frustrating.
2. We were on the fourth/top floor and our room was never cleaned until after 6pm at night. After site seeing all day the last thing you want to do is come back to a dirty room without fresh towels and then have them interrupt you while getting ready to go out for dinner.
3. The air conditioning unit worked well but made a loud noise each time the compressor come on. Not really a problem except during the time you are trying to sleep.
4. Two of the three morning we ate at the restaurant there was only one waiter. Due to the tour bus departure each day from the hotel more people than normal were eating in the restaurant.

I would recommend this property to anyone despite our problems..

We checked in early, which was no problem.. They have very nice spacious rooms, with very nice large shower and bathrooms. The breakfast was also very good. The option for the buffet or eggs to order gave us choices. We each had an omelet. The one down side is the night time menu. For a very small dining area, and small menu the prices are very high. we split a sandwich. They also have a shuttle to the airport which worked well for us.

Stayed last week for business - one of the nicer Garden Inn's I've stayed. Rooms are spacious and clean, good fitness room with 2 treadmills and free weights, nice bar/rest serving hot breakfast. In a newer growing area outside of downtown.

My husband and I stayed for three days recently. I had researched it on tripadvisor and we were very happy with our choice. We would highly recommend this hotel. It was clean, good breakfast and the staff was very helpful (especially Pearl at the front desk).
