“Great Historic Hisega Lodge!”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

I stayed 2 nights with my sister and 2 friends in the Lost Cabin (which is tucked under a part of the porch) - cozy and very comfortable, especially the beds. Breakfasts were absolutely delicious! We enjoyed sitting with the other guests "family style". Carol and Kenn are wonderful hosts and have thought of just about every detail to provide a relaxing and enjoyable stay! LOVE the historic lodge and greatly appreciate folks who put their whole heart into restoration and keeping up places like this. Hisega sets a mile off the highway so it's nice and quiet, but you may want to open your window to enjoy the sounds of Rapid Creek!

This lodge is out in the Black Hills in a charming setting along a creek. The room was small but clean and comfortable. The bathroom is pretty tiny with no counter top to put anything out from shaving kit or cosmetic bag. The big porch with table and chairs overlooking the creek became the place we used as a gathering place at the end of the day or in the morning before we headed out. The highlight is the breakfast so plan to build up an appetite to take full advantage of Carole's great cooking.

My husband and I stayed at the amazing Hisega Lodge in mid September. We thought the location was so cool - off the main road near a running stream. Wildlife was all around, which we were excited to see. The lodge was very spacious with many "cozy" rooms to choose from. It was
fun to meet the other guests from all over at the scrumptious breakfasts each morning. I am so glad we chose this B & B! You never know when you're going to make a memory!

We stayed at Hisega during Sturgis bike week for three days as part of our Harley road trip through the States and staying here was one of the highlights! Our hosts were as warm and helpful as anywhere we've been and the lodge a wonderful place to come back to after a long day in the saddle visiting the great sights that abound in this area. However, my only criticisms are the breakfast and breakfast seating arrangements. Firstly, there is no menu for breakfast, you take what is made, and on the first day that involved cheese which I am allergic to. Of course this was removed and something else made, but there was no discussion as to what I may actually like, and this was so for the next two mornings. Secondly, The seating was arranged in a way that all the guests sit together at the same table and at a set time and I simply do not like idle chatter first thing in the morning whilst negotiating unusual breakfast foods, and this was unavoidable. This may suit the more verbose individual but not everyone was comfortable I noticed. We both thought the food although top quality more suited to lunch or dinner. The servers were really helpful and friendly and I can't praise them enough. We made use of two rooms during our stay due to adding an extra day and found them both clean and cosy.

This is a great lodge outside of Rapid City. Lots of wildlife and a pretty little stream. Wild turkeys and deer call it home. The owners have created an atmosphere that is welcoming and quaint. But do not miss the breakfasts!

Hisega Lodge is beautifully situated, far from the madding crowds, yet near enough to visit all of the highlights of SW South Dakota. It's easy to get to Mt. Rushmore, The Crazy Horse Monument, Deadwood, Custer State Park and Wind Cave National Park, and charming Rapid City with it's wonderful sense of civic pride and cultural activities.

Carol and Ken, are caring hands on owners and hosts who have a great love for the area, and are full of great tips.

Additionally, Carol serves up an outrageous breakfast to get your day going, where all guests dine together and swap stories. This was truly a highlight of our trip.

My wife and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Hisega Lodge in the Blck Hills of South Dakota. Our experience was very favorable. Carol and Kenn are exceptional hosts. The location is ideal. We stayed in the in the "Grace" room. Although the rooms are small, we found the layout in Grace suited us very well. The breakfasts were as advertised...GREAT! We left the property early on the last day. Carol prepared an awesome sack lunch/breakfast that was much appreciated (and enjoyed). We would not hesitate to return to, or recommend the Hisega Lodge. Other perks included...use of a common fridge/freezer, bags of ice (with a loaner ice chest), library, use of land line phone...(cell reception limited). The setting next to the river, in the pines was relaxing and peaceful. Thank You Carol and Kenn for such a wonderful experience. Kudos to Tasha who was also was available, and willing to help us in any way she could.

Room Tip: On hot days choose a room facing west.
