“Relaxing, wonderful place to stay near the Badlands”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

We choose this place based on the great reviews on TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed. The cabins are not much from the outside but once you open the door, you will be pleasantly surprised by what you see. The decor is wonderful and the cabins are new and very clean. There is a nice sitting area with a mounted TV, free WiFi, comfortable beds, A/C, ceiling fan, microwave, coffee maker, mini fridge and a great shower after a long day exploring the Badlands, which is only 8 miles away. There is also a wonderful little porch outside your front door with two chairs to sit and watch the sunset over the prairie. Behind our cabin, there was also an area with several fire pits where you could have a bonfire at night. Our only complaint was that the staff was not very friendly... never smiled or greeted us when we arrived or thanked us when we left. The breakfast could also be improved but at least they offered something. Lastly, we had a bit of an issue with flies in our room (they have a fly swatter right in the cabin so this must be a common thing); we actually found the whole surrounding area to have a lot of flies (in restaurants, shops, etc.). Not a big deal as long as you don't mind swatting them. All in all, I would recommend this place to friends and family for a great place to stay while visiting the Badlands... so much better than a hotel or motel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the prairie for a great sunset view from the chairs on your porch right outsid...

My husband and I were very pleased with our stay at Frontier Cabins in Wall. These are individual cabins, recently built, carpeted, air conditioned, and nicely decorated in a rustic western theme. The room is a good size with a vanity sink at the back and a bathroom with a full size tub with shower. Amenities include TV, wi-fi, microwave, mini fridge, and coffeemaker. Towels are pretty - embroidered with regional motifs. Nice toiletries are included as are a hairdryer, iron and ironing board. The first time we stayed there on our trip we had a cabin with a king size bed and a sofa. The second time we had two queen beds. Our cabins both had a front porch that looked out onto a field, making for a nice view. I'd recommend asking for one of these as they're further from the road. Parking is great - you park in the space between the cabins, plenty wide enough for one car, which makes unloading luggage into your room easy. It's located just outside Badlands National Park, but not in town - if you want to go to Wall Drug you'll probably want to drive. You get one bag of ice per day of stay. Breakfast is served in the main building/gift shop and starts at 7 am. It's okay - scrambled eggs, cereal, danish, muffins, biscuits and gravy, fruit, coffee and OJ. You check in at the store and if you leave before 7 am, the office is closed but there's a key drop box.

Room Tip: Ask for a cabin that faces the field - they're further from the road.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Frontier Cabins Motel. When we made our booking, we didn't know quite what to expect, but were very pleasantly surprised.

The cabins are large, well built, clean, well maintained and very comfortable. They're attractively furnished and decorated in what I'd call "rustic western frontier" decor - lots of pine logs, pine paneling, rustic furniture and western-themed bedspreads, table coverings, decorations, towels, etc. If you feeling like sitting outside, the cabins have small covered porches with nice pine chairs. The beds are great.

The cabins are laid out in two rows that face outwards. One row faces the road and one faces a field. Our cabin was in the row that faces the road, but it is set well back and the road isn't very busy, so we weren't disturbed by any traffic noise.

Between the two rows of cabins, but well separated from them, is a long strip with tepees, a small sauna, a fire pit, a BBQ, a hot tub, a bar, children's play structures, a statue of a buffalo - really neat and in keeping with the frontier theme.

A good hot breakfast was served in the main office, which is also a very large western-themed gift shop. It has some tacky souvenirs, but lots of good stuff too, so it's worth taking a look around.

The staff was very friendly. Like many businesses in the area, Frontier Cabins Motel employs a number of young foreign workers, so there were a few very minor language issues, but nothing insurmountable.

One tip: the office isn't staffed after about 10 pm, so if you're going to arrive late, you should call ahead and let them know. We did and they simply told us our cabin number and that it would be left unlocked for us. Sure enough, it was and the key was on the dresser. We checked-in the next morning. Our late arrival was completely hassle free.

Overall, Frontier Cabins Motel is highly recommended. It's very comfortable, unpretentious and has lots of character. It's a great home base for exploring nearby attractions like Badlands National Park and Wall Drug.

I didn't know exactly what to expect when I booked this cabin; but, once again, Trip Advisor reviews were correct. The cabins were a nice size and included everything that we needed. There was a nice sitting area and a comfortable bed. The towels were good, and it was very clean. These are the things that are important to us, but the stay was more enjoyable because it was decorated so nicely with all the western touches that make a cabin truly have that western feel!
This was so convenient to the Badlands that we were able to get an early start and then head on to Mount Rushmore.
The only negative we saw were the tremendous number of flies - not the fault of the motel, but they were everywhere!

We had a great one night stay. The cabin was clean, comfortable and wonderfully decorated. Check in was quick and accurate and we were able to check in a little early which was appreciated. They give you a free bag of ice during your stay (assuming no ice machine) which was nice. Our cabin faced the road but none of us noticed any road noise during the night. Wonderful grounds-hot tub, playground, community gas grill with provided grilling tools as well as charcoal grills and picnic tables between each cabin, and a fire pit. Nice adirondack chairs on each porch. There are also a couple of teepees that I hadn't realized you could stay in overnight-not for us but a pretty cool alternative to tent camping. Very convenient to the Badlands, 90, and downtown Wall. Breakfast is in a tight area but was decent. Also, if you need/want fireworks this is the place for you-my husband was like a kid in a candy store but I wouldn't let him buy any. The store also sells souvenir items including some beautiful locally made jewelry. Very highly recommended.

We were very happy with our stay overall. The cabins were very clean and comfortable for our group of six ranging from 12-70. The breakfast wasn't the best I've had but the selection was decent it was more than I was expecting. We didn't use the hottub or play area but they looked to be in good condition. The location was great for us because we didn't want to be right in the middle of Wall but everything was still a very short 5 minute ride away. (You could walk it if you wanted the exercise.) It is also just a few minutes from the entrance of the Badlands.

The only negative that I have is regarding the reservation process. When I called to make the reservation, the gal seemed distracted and was talking to another guest (?) at the same time that she was trying to make the reservation. Once I finished the booking, she said that I would recieve a confirmation email within a couple of days, which I never did. About 10 days later, I emailed their office to inquire about the confirmation and I was initially told that I had no reservation and that they were overbooked for the weekend we were going to be there. Upon further investigation, and a couple of hours of nervous waiting, they did find the reservation and sent a confirmation. So make sure you get your confirmation!

Room Tip: There are two rows of cabins - one row faces a field and the other faces the highway. Ours faced the...

We just returned from South Dakota. We stayed 7 nights at Frontier Cabins and enjoyed every minute of it. The staff was very friendly and super helpful. I've seen reviews about the staff being unfriendly but we experienced none of this. We trucked motorcycles and rode from Wall in all directions. The cabins are very cute and we loved the decor. Breakfast was fine too. Easy walking distance to all restaurants and shopping. No complaints what-so-ever!

Room Tip: Any room will be fine. Badlands loop is quiet at night so roadside is not an issue.
