Owner description: Wounded Knee Museum will be closed for the 2016 season. Due to reopen May 2017. After the fire in September 2012, The Wounded Knee Museum exhibits were reconstructed and displayed at a temporary location, but will be returning to their original location in Wall, South Dakota with an expected opening date of May 2017. We will be expanding our displays and exhibits. The Wounded Knee Museum opened in 2003 to share the events leading to the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890. We appreciate your continued support, understanding and prayers during this transition of rebuilding. We look forward to seeing you in 2017!

“A gem in Wall”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

If you are on your way to or from the Black Hills, this little gem is a must see. It has recently opened and is just a block from Wall Drug.

The modest $6 per adult ($5 for 65 +) is well worth your investment.

There is a brief video that sets the stage for the exhibits that follow. Be prepared to be shocked at the information shared.....most of us were never told of these events nor the extent of the massacre of Native people by the United States government. Plan to cry ....shake your head in disbelief ....and head for your local library for more information.

A must see

“A sombering and notable experience.”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

The history of this massacre and the people's lives who were ended and forever changed is overwhelming. It was tastefully presented through video and exhibits. There is no blame presented just what happened in the eyes of the natives and the whites. One must see this.

“History Lesson”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

This is a small museum that tastefully tells the story of a tragic and horrific event in American History. Take an hour of your day in Wall, South Dakota to go through the Wounded Knee Museum.

“Most see”
Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

We stopped in to see the museum for the first time and it was educational. Before we went into the museum the had hoop dancers and some other performers and it was wonderful after you could walk around and look at the benders working on their items and watch them make some beautiful dream catchers and bead work. Then we went into the museum and watched a video on wounded knee learned a lot. I think everyone should stop and see the native American culture.
