We were driving through Tennessee and trying to find a place to eat that was local. We found The Troutdale on trip advisor. We called ahead and got a reservation and even though we were under dressed - dress code is business casual - we felt right at home. The food was awesome, the service was beyond compare (Carrie was our server, but many others came and brought various things to us) and the whole experience left us with a very positive outlook on Bristol. If you are traveling and have the time stop in and try it. You won't be sorry!

I have had the great opportunity to visit a lot of really nice establishment when I travel for work, but when I visited family in Tennessee over the Thanksgiving holiday I was pleasantly surprised to discover The Troutdale. You could place this restaurant in any major city and it would still be one of the top spots to visit for that city, its THAT good. The service, food and atmosphere is what makes this place shine and I hope I have the opportunity to eat here again when I visit Tennessee later this year. Thanks for the great experience!

Troutdale has been our special occasion restaurant for several years because you can always count on excellent food quality. Tonight was Valentine's, so we made our reservation. It was a mixed experience.

The restaurant is in an old, Victorian home. The tables are usually not so close, however they must have brought in extra tables for Valentines. We were seated next to a couple who may as well have been dining with us as the tables were so close together. Not very intimate or romantic.

They had a special menu for the occasion, with four courses: appetizer, salad or soup, entree and dessert. There were only four choices on each of the courses, except for the entree and the dessert which had 5 choices each, if you count the martini they had listed in the dessert menu.

I had the goat cheese on toast points, red pepper apple soup, stuffed fillet and creme brûlée. My husband had the raw oysters, mixed greens salad, grouper and creme brûlée.

The wine selection was somewhat limited but good quality. We shared a bottle of 2010 Smith & Hook Cabernet which was excellent. $59

Although the restaurant was not very crowded, it took over 2 hours for service.

The portion sizes were a bit scanty for the price ($85 per person for the 4 courses). We saw other guests being served mile high looking pies. We were disappointed that our creme brûlée desserts were serves in 1/4 cup ramekins!

The biggest disappointment was that we had purchased a coupon from our local high school that included Troutdale with no exclusions mentioned. They refused to honor it because it was Valentines Day.

The server was mostly polite but disappeared for long periods of time. We had to ask for bread because he did not serve it,yet he acted as though he had saying saying, "Oh, you want MORE bread?"

I am unsure if this restaurant will remain our special occasion place. There are other restaurants in the area with very good food and better service. Try 620 State!

Tri Cities does not have an abundance of fine dining so its a pleasure to have Troutdale as an option. Somewhat pricey, but ambience and food are worth the occasional treat
