Iron Mountain Inn B&B
Ranked #1 of 1 Butler B&B and Inns

Could not have been more comfortable at Iron Mountain Inn. Imagine finding yourself in a fabulous log home (featured in Log Home magazine!!!) on the very tip-top of an enormous mountain in the Tennessee Blue Ridge mountains. Then picture a steaming cup of coffee in the morning in front of a big stone fireplace while the sunlight picks out every mountain peak around you. Delicious breakfast, comfy rooms, and then ah! As if that were not enough, a steam shower... Yeah, you have to go to the Iron Mountain Inn. And WE have to go BACK.

4 luxury rooms each with private whirlpool tub, but we chose the Family Memories Room with a steam shower and private balcony as well as the whirlpool! Drifting off to sleep between 300 tc sheets listening to the wind in the trees and the gentle murmuring of the waterfall and stream below our balcony caused all cares to drift away as well.

In the morning, coffee and muffins awaited us right upstairs. So we put on the terry robes provided, got our coffee and muffins to sit on our balcony enjoying the early morning quiet. Then it was downstairs for a scrumptuous hearty breakfast. We had baked apples with raisins and cranberries topped off with whipped cream followed by French scrambled eggs - these are not like the dry hard ones you usually get when you "eat out". Oven roasted potato cubes, sliced tomatoes and mozzerella cheese slices filled up our plates.

After a hike to Gentry Creek Falls, it was back to the Inn for some of their famous homemade Iron Mountain Inn chocolate chip cookies from the bottomless cookie jar! A glass of hot tea for me and iced tea for him completed the afternoon refreshment.

Our second day we visited the Butler Museum which tells the story of "Old Butler", the only incorporated town "drowned" by the TVA when they created the series of dams along the Tennessee Valley. Created to control flooding and electric power, Watauga Lake is now a beautiful lake for boating, fishing, swimming and other recretations. Over 80% is part of the Cherokee National Forest making the lake the 3rd cleanest lake in the US. 10 miles long with 110 miles of shoreline, a pontoon boat ride (rent from Fish Springs Marina 423-768-2336) is the perfect way to spend a day or an afternoon.

The owner of the Inn, Vikki Woods, also has a private 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath chalet nestled next to the creek. With the wrap around deck and hot tub under the stars, this is the perfect small family vacation or those who travel with their pets. She is also building a luxury home right on the shores of the lake which she says will be ready for rental in July of 2005.

Looking forward to going back.
