We stayed at Cherryfield for a week from the 23rd September. The cottage is warm, cosy and spacious in one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. There is so much to see and do. Kilkenny is a beautiful city and Waterford is only about an hour away. We had the most relaxing time and enjoyed feeding the horses (they love carrots!) and feeding the chickens. River and Buster are two lovely dogs on the farm and are no trouble at all. There’s no barking or jumping up,they just give a friendly wag of the tail and walk beside you if they feel like it. Best of all is the wonderful hospitality of Breda and Liam, they couldn’t possibly have made us feel more welcome. Breda made us tea when we arrived with lovely fresh homemade bread and a delicious pear pie. You have to experience this for your self but if it’s warm Irish hospitality you’re after we guarantee you won’t be disappointed! Lovely people!
We spent two weeks in this house ,Cherryfield is located close to the village of Ballyragget about 20 mins from Kilkenny. The house itself is comfortable and will provide you with all your needs but it's the hugely welcoming and genuine owners Liam and Breda plus their sons Paul, Brian and Steven, that makes for an unforgettable holiday.Their helpfulness and friendship will away be valued, my two granddaughters thought it was paradise with the dogs Buster, Rover and sometimes Nelly vying for their attention . They got to feed the chickens, collect the eggs, met the horses, seen the calves, visited the milking parlour and seen the bunnies in the fields on an evening . They enjoyed the large gardens and their own princesses castle and the freedom that all entails. There are plenty of places of interest in Kilkenny , great pubs and good restaurants and Castlecomer Discovery Park is a 15 minute drive away . It has loads to keep the children happy and the grandparents got to do the Zip-wire run for an adrenalin rush. Durrow, Abbeyleix and Port Laiose are also within a 15 to 30 min away. The only words of caution are that this house is on a busy working farm and children should be closely supervised around the farmyard. Will our family be returning to Cherryfield in the future, without doubt!!!!
This cottage is in a very beautiful part of Ireland. There's plenty to see in the area and lots of pretty little villages within a short drive.
We arrived to a very warm welcome from Breda who had prepared food and drinks for us, she also waited on us while we ate and had also made some fruit loaf and an apple pie.
Nothing was too much trouble for Bread and Liam and they always had information and advice on places to visit.
We collected eggs from the farm for our breakfast and the cottage was extremely comfortable and homely with everything we needed for our stay.
I would recommend this cottage very highly to either couples sharing or a family and would certainly stay there again.
This is a real find. I can only reiterate what everyone else has said. Home from home doesn't even come close and the welcome from Liam and Breda is obviously genuinely warm. They really go out of their way to make sure you have a wonderful relaxed holiday. There is really nothing derogatory to say ---not even a small niggle,
Cherryfield is simply the most charming place to stay. We stayed for a little over 2 weeks and would love to return. Breda and Liam are so accommodating and friendly. We arrived late at night after some delayed flight issues. Breda had fresh bread, jam, butter, and a pie ready for us when we arrived. She also made sure that we had food for breakfast since we had arrived late and were unable to go to the store. The location is very central, which made it very easy for sightseeing. The farm is fun to stay at, and we even got to see the birth of a calf! Cherryfield is a true Ireland gem and we had a wonderful stay.
We spent a wonderful two weeks at Cherryfield. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable but it's the Murphy's themselves that make a visit to Cherryfield unforgettable. From the moment we arrived we were greeted like family. Liam and Breda went out of their way to ensure that we had everything we needed and even rearranged the furniture in my sons room so that he could continue with his work. We were often spoilt with home made goodies and there is an endless supply of firewood delivered to your door. We got to feed new born calves and Liam even allowed my daughter to name them. I would highly recommend Cherryfield and will definitely be visiting the Murphy's again.
My family and I have stayed in dozens of Airbnb spots, but none like this one. Hands down the best. Breda and Liam are personally invested in the success of your trip. For us, they bent over backwards to ensure a perfect holiday, from the homemade apple pie and brown bread that were waiting there when we arrived to pony rides for the kids and a personal guide service to local ancient sites. The kids enjoyed seeing all the animals and helping to feed the chickens and calves. They cried when it was time to leave. This is so much more than a place to stay. It's an experience.
The accommodations were nice, and everything was comfortable and clean. The setting is picturesque and the location is central if you are looking to see different areas of the country.
If you want to come to Ireland for nightlife and city culture, this place is not for you. But if you have any interest in essentially anything else, it would be a mistake to pass up an opportunity like this.
